When do puppies start sleeping through regularly?

AwesomeDog is 17 weeks and last night had us up at 2:40am and then twice more before morning. We didn't leave her as DS1 has exams this week and needs his sleep. She mostly wakes 5-6am with the odd lovely morning where she sleeps until nearly 6:30am. It appears to have no bearing whether she has one walk, two walks, no walks, short, long etc as to what she does.

She likes to sleep from 8-9pm and would go to bed then if we let her. She's not keen on last wee before bed as it's cold and dark .

She's 17 weeks and a golden retriever.

Oh following with interest our GR is 10 weeks on Saturday and my dp is already getting fed up with getting up through the night seems like we have a while to go. Would love to see some more pics of your pup.

My youngest dog is 3 and still gets up between 5.30 and 6.30

5:30 would be okay if every night but her random 2 or 3am shouting is exhausting!

Since he was about 4 months old our Goldie boy slept from about 11 to 5.30
From about 8 months it was 10/11 to around 7.30, could be later but that's when I get up so we nice he hears me he's up as well. At weekends it can be 8.
He's a pain in many ways but at least he has slept through from pretty young!!

It's difficult as she sleeps in the lounge as the kitchen is below the DCs rooms which means she's under me and if I need to get up in the night she sometimes hears me. She may bark once or twice and go off but sometimes we have to go to her and take her out. She does a tiny wee but I think under protest as she's shouting for company really. After her five o'clock visit outside she refuses to go back in her crate and likes to lie on the sofa and watch the telly .

Well Goldies aren't daft ( well they are but they aren't stupid). She's getting rewarded for getting up early with sofa time and company. You need to make 5 o'clock less rewarding

It's dh that does the telly. He's spent time choosing suitable programmes after I told him off for letting her watch Jeremy Kyle!

What do we do though as she barks and wakes the kids and they need their sleep. On Saturday morning we'll try and leave her.

No idea what she'll do today. She had a walk this morning and has slept lots. A few little plays in the garden in between. Didn't ask to go out for a walk as she normally does but she had her walk earlier than normal and she took me on a longer walk.

He doesn't stay with her at 5am btw.

Aww but look how absolutely adorable she is. I have to say mine is 10 weeks on Saturday and doesn't look much smaller 🙈 A bit worried about what size mine is going to grow to he has put on over 2kg in 12 days

My lab was going from 9-7 ish at 5 months... But we co-slept.

Last Saturday awesomedog weighed 12.05kilos. She was nearly 16 weeks then.

Doggy sleeps in the lounge. With the guinea pigs . We used to put then in the kitchen then forgot one night and she slept through..

Hmmm I'd have thought she'd be able to go for longer by now - our dog was sleeping from midnight to 6am after the first few days and by the time he was five months old he'd conk out at about 9 and we wouldn't hear a peep out of him until we went downstairs at about 6:30/7

Have you tried changing the time you feed her in the evening to see if that makes any difference - she may be waking because she's hungry

For the last three weeks or so she's been fed at 7am, 11, 2:30 and 6:30. She has a snack at 9, 4:30 and between 8-9 but tomorrow we were planning on giving her three meals as I need to leave her next week and would not be here for the 2:30 feed.

Her waking didn't change when she was fed a meal at 8pm ish.

I don't think she's hungry as she goes back quietly and isn't asking for food. If she's up at 5-6:30 she waits until seven. We go down around 6:30 and someone is usually always there with her.

Awake at 2:40....

Dh went t her and told her to stop and she did. He left, she whimpered for a couple of minutes then went back off for an hour or so. Has to let her out as she'd tipped water all over her bed. Goodness knows how though I expect dh put it too near. Not sure what time she got up for the day. Currently having her second or maybe third nap.

Discovered today she's scared of the wind when it blows hundreds of leaves around .

Our mini schnauzer slept through from about12 weeks but at that point was waking every morning at 5.30. She's now 20 weeks and sleeps till 6.30, at the weekend we let her out for a wee at 6.30 with no talking or fuss and no lights on, then put her back to bed for another hour.

By going to her she's still getting attention, positive or negative doesn't really come into it. If she doesn't need out then you have to be tough and ignore her

When Eric was a buba (throw back puppy photo and a recent one, he's nearly 2 now!) he was crated at night in the kitchen. DP and I went down to him every 2 hours to let him outside for a wee until he was about 4 months old. Then we dropped it to every 4 hours and then when he was 6 months he could hold it all night.

The first night he was home he cried for about 10 minutes and then fell asleep and the next night didn't make a sound. If you go down to them when they cry you make a rod for your own back. I know it's hard, but if they've been toileted, fed and watered and they're safe you really don't need to go to them.

Now, we don't crate Eric and he sleeps in a normal bed in the kitchen and takes himself off to bed at about 11pm. He wakes up when we do and most mornings I come down at 6:30am and he refuses to move , so he gets up when DP does at 9am instead!

Just read the start of my OP and she has done the same two nights/early morning running.

She can go all night as she's done it a few times but sometimes does a tiny wee. May as well I suspect she thinks.

How long do we leave her barking for before we go to her? Or do we just leave her? 18 minutes this morning, she barks in sequence then dh said she wasn't going to stop but he didn't take her out and she didn't wee in her bed or crate or on the floor.

It's hard as we have children and they need to sleep and there is nowhere to put awesomedog where she won't disturb them. She sleeps in the lounge so she's louder for us than them.

Dh was too soft. He went to her the first night, then the next, then the next and on her sixth night here he got up to her six times! I told him no more but we are nine weeks later and she's probably slept through less than a handful of times.

We don't want to be cruel. She's our first dog. We are still learning though gaining in confidence.

You have to tough it out, maybe try over the Christmas holidays

I think she'd like it if she slept in my bed with me mummy's girl .

Mine slept through from the third night she was home, so about nine weeks.

I like to think it's my karmic reward for my three non sleeping children.

She needs to sleep in your bed!

Would I be wrong to tell dh it's his fault she's not sleeping through yet given his first week's actions?!
