Where does your dog sleep at night ?

My almost 3 yo border collie has always slept downstairs, initially crated, but now on her bed or just wherever she likes. We are getting a second dog and I'm considering taking the older upstairs to my room to sleep - pup will be crated initially ... thoughts ?

We go through a charade every night putting DDog to bed in her bed, but by the time we're even halfway up the stairs she's on the sofa. Since removing the bottom stair gate she also spends some time on the second step from the top, when we had the bottom stair gate she'd sleep at the bottom of the stairs. If she had her way she'd be in our bed, under the covers, back to back with me!

Like many others our two sleep on the bed with us. They started off downstairs but now this is what happens. Although, I'm pregnant with out first and conscious this will have to stop whilst our baby is in the room. Feeling a tad guilty though.

Bloody hell Vladimir. Sorry to hear that.

I'm a bit Shock at all these dogs sleeping on your beds. My lab has only got to glance upstairs and the carpets are instantly thick with black fur.

Plus he's huge, he snuffles and snores and he'd wake me up. He's got an open crate in the kitchen which has a huge blanket over it and is like a little dog cave. Or a dog bed in the living room. Or the sofa when he thinks I'm not looking.

She has her own sofa in the kitchen although she does have a doggie bed too and sleeps on that sometimes. Sofa is more comfy though :) I'd never let her in our bed although dh would love it. Doggie smell and hair will never be good bedfellows. Plus I like lots of space!

MsAdorabelle mine is a black lab too. He has so many places to sleep but chooses to sleep next to (or on) me and I'm ok with that.

Ddog (also black lab) sleeps on his own bed on bedroom floor next to my side of the bed at night. When he was younger and more sprightly he would sometimes jump up onto bed if invited in the mornings for a cuddle but he's too old for that now so just sticks his nose in my face when it's time to get up and get breakfast. Ddog sleeps on the sofa in the den (his bedroom) or in my spot on the sofa in the lounge, never on his actual bed.
If there's a storm, high winds or fireworks I bring his bed upstairs next to my side of the bed so my hand is touching him while I sleep. He's never tried to come up on the actual bed though.

When we're away in the campervan dh will have the big bed at the back and I have the smaller double made from the dining area, Ddog sleeps on the bed with me then. Not so bad as I have a sleeping bag, I did forget to pack it once and woke up with him under the blankets licking my toes! He likes to lay alongside me with his head under my arm.

All in our room, ddog1 on the sofa at the end of the bed, ddog2 on a memory foam mattress at the end of the room, DDog3 on the bed (as soon as DH has fallen asleep), ddog4 memory foam mattress at the end of the room until DH get up in the morning then he snuggles up on our bed as well.
We do have a large bedroom and bed.

We are farmers amd our working collies sleep together in a heated workshop attached to house but my jackapoo sleeps cuddled up beside me on my bed. She is very attached to me and is like my shadow. Our collies are just gorgeous but because we have dairy cows they get very dirty at times do sleep in a fully heated workshop together. Works for us

One sleeps in a basket downstairs. Which must be lined with a duvet or she looks at me in disdain HmmGrinThe other flops down wherever he wants, usually on his rug in front of the aga. Farm and gun dogs sleep in a stable on straw.

I don't blame you Vladimir. I have had mine upstairs with me if dh has been away. The hair is ridiculous. I even hoover the bed.

Ancient dog on her bed or the sofas downstairs - can't get upstairs anymore.
Young dog, goes up with the little ones, comes back down for night walk & sofa cuddles, back up with teens to try out everyone's beds for a bit. Eventually settles on the floor by my side of the bed for the night.

rum 😂
My whippet starts off on her bed (which is on the sofa) with a blanket on. As soon as we are at the top of the stairs she is already right behind us. Sits patiently in the hallway until we have brushed our teeth then jumps into bed with us. Then under the duvet .... occasionally gets out (panting) when she is too hot to lie on top of the covers.
goes to hide in shame

Ours are Greyhounds. They do love their comfort don't they. Ancient girl used to carry her blanket upstairs with her!

Our springer sleeps in the kitchen either in her dog bed or on the door mat depending upon what she feels like
Not sure what we will do going forward as I am thinking of getting another dog early next year and have always had german shepherds before we got her and I don't think either the dog bed or door mat are big enough for them to share if I get one of those as well

Our dogs sleep downstairs - their beds are under the stairs.

None of our dogs ever sneak upstairs at 2am, and jump up on the bed between us, leaving the other dog downstairs - and if they did, we would of course send that dog straight back downstairs. That never happens.
