Where does your dog sleep at night ?

My almost 3 yo border collie has always slept downstairs, initially crated, but now on her bed or just wherever she likes. We are getting a second dog and I'm considering taking the older upstairs to my room to sleep - pup will be crated initially ... thoughts ?

Anywhere she likes. our bed, snuggled right up against our shins like a fluffy little bal of warmth

Cumberland · 22/10/2016 19:27

In the kitchen on a dog bed.

stonecircle · 22/10/2016 19:30

We did have a crate for dog 1 but the door was only closed on the first night. After that she just went into it when she wanted to.

Now dog 1 sleeps downstairs on one of the assorted memory foam dog beds or on one of the sofas. She likes her own space and only goes upstairs through the night if she wants to tell us she needs to be out.

Dogs 2 and 3 sleep in our room either on our bed or on the big dog bed in our room. Door is left ajar so they can go elsewhere if they want.

In short, they sleep where they want!

Our sleeps in exactly the same spot on the sofa on his furry bed which comes out for him at bedtime.

I think he would hate to sleep with us as much as we would hate sleeping with him!

pensivepolly · 22/10/2016 19:32

One in a dog nest on the floor of our bedroom, one downstairs on the sofa - both their respective choices.

Cocolepew · 22/10/2016 19:35

On our bed, if she's too warm she moves to the floor.
She likes to be touching me so lies against my legs

Dapplegrey1 · 22/10/2016 19:36

Two whippets and both sleep in or on our bed.
When we go on holiday without them I find nights very uncosy without them.

MoogBoov · 22/10/2016 19:38

When we introduced our puppy to our older dog we crated the pup at first, but left the older to his normal routine, which meant both of them sleeping in the lounge but with doors open should he desire to have some space. We tried to aim for the least disruption to the older one and also introduce pup's new routine as soon as she moved in.

At weekends when dh is home, all 3 sleep in the kitchen in their beds, sometimes two in one bed to snuggle, although no one really wants to snuggle with Ddog3 because while he is devastatingly handsome he is a pain in the arse. During the week all three sleep on the bed with me ddog1 under the covers, he loves to be cosy! Grin

imonaplane · 22/10/2016 22:15

Our 3 sleep in our bedroom but on their own beds. I can't sleep if they are in or on our bed but I also can't sleep if they are not in the room with us.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/10/2016 22:23

Right now I'm MNing in bed and my dachshund is tucked in beside me. But I'll take him down to his own bed soon - its under the work surface in the utility room, very snug. He's not a quiet enough sleeper to stay with me all night, unfortunately. (DH likewise, come to that)

Notverylucky · 22/10/2016 22:27

One sleeps on the sofa downstairs. The other 5 sleep either in bed with us or in their cages, depending on whether or not I want some space. They're happy in either place, and are all always caged when we are out.

dudsville · 22/10/2016 22:29

We sleep as a pack. In summer that's too hot for one of us who then opts to sleep under the tea tray table under the open window.

Notverylucky · 22/10/2016 22:30

Ours also all sleep under the covers and all snuggled up to me, so it can get too warm!

HemanOrSheRa · 22/10/2016 22:30

My little JRT sleeps with me. She did have a bed on the floor in our room. Which she'd waddle off to during the night. But when we got our second cat (as a rescue kitten) the little git would piss on her doggy bed Angry. We changed the bed, washed it etc. But he was having none of it. So I gave up and have her in with me. DP works permanent late shifts so it's no problem.

BedknobsandBullhooks · 22/10/2016 22:32

11 month old still crated.
Elderly rescue ,on the floor downstairs. She's had many 'beds' but never uses them.
Little rescue dog, on my bed. (Oops).

Scuttlebutter · 22/10/2016 22:40

Lurcher snores companionably next to me on our bed. Greyhound sleeps nearby either in the corner of our room or on the landing next to the airing cupboard in a warm spot. They also have a bunk bed and a double bed for their use which they often use for daytime siestas, plus a selection of downstairs furniture.

rhodes2015 · 22/10/2016 22:42

Our jack Russell x chihuahua was crated for first year or so.... not sure how/when but she now sleeps between us in our bed in winter/ bottom of the bed on top of covers in warmer months. We hate sleeping without her now Blush

Fuzzywuzzywasabear · 22/10/2016 22:45

Both ours sleep in bed with us, one in between at the head of the bed the other at the foot. If they get hot they move to the floor but same spots one under the bed against the wall the other against the wall at the foot of the bed.

If one of us stays up and the other goes to bed the younger dog comes up to bed and the older stays downstairs until everyone is upstairs.

FannyCabbage · 22/10/2016 22:50

Our husky sleeps in our room, under the bedGrin she is crate trained and is supposed to sleep in the kitchen but for the last few weeks I've been weak and allowed her up - I always wanted a dog to sleep at the bottom of my bed, so why not? I just have to hoover a trillion times a day

dalmatianmad · 22/10/2016 22:56

My pair sleep on the sofa, they have a dog bed in the living room and one in the kitchen but rarely use them Hmm

It's a chore trying to shift their spotty arses and they moan and huff and puff if you dare to try and sit down Grin

TheoriginalLEM · 22/10/2016 22:59

In my bloody bed Hmm

GinIsIn · 22/10/2016 23:06

Our dog was created originally then used to like to snooze on our bed until we fell asleep, then take herself off to her own bed in a corner of the bedroom. Since we moved house and got a big new bed, however, she prefers to stay on the bed.

The family dog has a nice big bed in the living room (huge dog) but in winter much prefers to sleep on the rug right in front of the wood burner, even if it means she's panting her head off, and clearly too warm. Hmm And if I am home to visit, likes to lie across my bedroom door, so I fall over her if I get up to go to the loo in the night!

GinIsIn · 22/10/2016 23:07

And by created I mean crated...

Herhighness · 22/10/2016 23:07

Minature Schnauzer in guest bedroom with me, Jack Russell in master bedroom with dh.
