black labrador, area, pale tiled floors, moulting. out of control

OK, so it's all in the title really. We have pale tiles throughout. Then got a black lab. I hoover. literally minutes later the floor is covered again. Even parts of the house she's not allowed in. The dc have a lovely way of roughly stroking her which leaves an inch thick dog-shaped heap of fur on the floor. It takes so long to hoover, stupid open plan house that I rarely have time to mop. And it's rained loads lately so I have mud patches to boot.

We got a furminator. Little improvement.

Do I give up? Or move out? Or hoover 6 times a day, or mop without hoovering. Or just shave her?

How do people manage?

Dc begging for 2nd dog. I don't see how I could cope with double the hair horror.

Swap her for a yellow lab?

Whatever you do, don't shave a double coated dog.

Put a pair of washing up gloves on, take her outside and stroke her all over. this will remove any loose undercoat.

Do this 2 or 3 times a week and you should see a reduction in the amount you find in the house.

bluesy, honestly the thought has crossed my mind many times.

we went to the rescue kennels and she was in this cage, just 12 weeks old surrounded by lots of barking and we fell in love. Didn't consider the nightmare floor/fur combo. It's astonishingly bad atm. I'm ashamed to open my blinds or answer the door

i only say that as we have a yellow lab and pale tile/carpet throughout - we actually had her first then matched the flooring to her fur. I only need to vacuum once a week as you can’t see the hair unless you look really closely.

Just wait until winter the mud increases twentyfold🐾🐾🐾🐾 . Sorry! I have a Flatcoat and could probably stuff a pillow every day from the hairs he leaves around. It's much better when I comb him but I'm not sure if that works with labs?

Can you hoover the dog?
I used to do this with my Golden Retriever. He loved it. Mind you we still had fur tumbleweed every where and several broken vacuum cleaners.

Two black labs here and I can't say I find it an issue. Light coloured flooring too. Obviously a sign of my housekeeping standards!

They have been away with DH for a week though and I have noticed the sudden reduction in the need for hoovering! Might be worth a mention to the vet next time you're there as it does sound excessive.

I find a good brush in the garden, brushing the hair the wrong way to start with, removes a load of loose hair

Swap with you? I have a golden lab, you can see the hair drop out even with the slightest movement and we have walnut flooring.

Best thing I've bought is a dyson cordless vacuum. It makes vacuuming so much less of a task three times a day. And yes to upstairs dog hair when they have never been up there, ever.

I also bought a cordless hoover, an AEG upright which sits on its charging station. I love it. Means I can hoover a couple of times (just the kitchen mind you) without too much stress.

The hairs get transported upstairs on the soles of your feet. Have you ever looked at your socks before you tread on your carpet stair? It does get everywhere.

stone circle - tell me how you do it then please! I hoovered twice yesterday and once already today. And she had been rubber glove rubbed. Here is a picture of my darling. Note floor next to her.

To be fair our yellow sheds more than the black one.

I vacuum every day - dyson hand held. Makes it easy.

Your does sound excessive though. Ours would be better if we brushed them more. I like the rubber glove suggestion. Will give that a go.

And I'm jot kidding. I have literally hoovered 5 times so far in the last 24 hours. She is a really sloppy drinker too esp if she gets distracted, and all the hair sticks to the water. And is really hard to clean up as can't Hoover it. Have tried putting mat or towel underneath but that caused it's own hassles.

Look at the food you're using, I've got a double coated collie, pale wood floors and don't have a huge problem with moulting. I hoovered on Thursday and it just about needs doing today.
I feed Natural Instinct and compared to my sister who has a similar collie and feeds James Wellbeloved mine moults much less. Purely anecdotal I know but I've heard this from other people.
My friend's black lab moults much less since she moved him to Devoted dog food.

I was just about to say different food too! We changed to Arden Grange and its made a massive difference! He's shedding a lot at the moment but that is due to the weather being unable to make its mind up I think

That is an idea. I think it is the weather though and while it is often bad it is extreme at the moment, so jot usually so bad.

She useems to lose a lot more hair and had bad poos much of the time so we switched her food. It is a very high quality one, we have it delivered. We're aren't in uk so maybe I can't get the ones you mentioned. Hut she improved significantly once we switches to this and passers by often comment on how shiny and glossy her coat it.

They just don't see that most of it is lying on my sitting room floor

Get one of those rubber brooms they use in hair salons? Problem with hoovering on tiles is it can blow the hair about a lot, meaning it just resettles afterwards.

I have got a yellow lab and dark tiles, we could swap. Our lab is much hairier than most of our friend's labs so not all coats are equal .

I vacuumed last night (talking tumbleweed not just a few hairs), then vacuumed the dog with this, and there was still more tumbleweed this morning.

I love the idea of hoovering her, but she is terrified of the Hoover so seems a bit cruel. I think tour right. I need to ditch the Hoover. Although it is a good one. I wish I could try one of those mops before I buy. We have got so many cleaning gadgets but still house is minging
