black labrador, area, pale tiled floors, moulting. out of control

OK, so it's all in the title really. We have pale tiles throughout. Then got a black lab. I hoover. literally minutes later the floor is covered again. Even parts of the house she's not allowed in. The dc have a lovely way of roughly stroking her which leaves an inch thick dog-shaped heap of fur on the floor. It takes so long to hoover, stupid open plan house that I rarely have time to mop. And it's rained loads lately so I have mud patches to boot.

We got a furminator. Little improvement.

Do I give up? Or move out? Or hoover 6 times a day, or mop without hoovering. Or just shave her?

How do people manage?

Dc begging for 2nd dog. I don't see how I could cope with double the hair horror.

I think I have relaxed my standards over the years too Ernest. I could vacuum every day but I don't, only the hallway and kitchen where the tumbleweed is most evident.

Shame she hates the hoover, mine loves it and gets really excited when the brush comes out Shock.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 20/06/2016 14:22

You haven't mentioned it so apologies if I'm being thick but you do actually groom her daily don't you? Labs do shed a lot and need a good brush every morning. They might be short haired but like a pp said they are double coated and are really hairy. Grin

tabulahrasa · 20/06/2016 14:53

I'd use a rubber curry comb on her - preferably outside, lol.

And yep, hoovers are no good for dog hair on a hard floor, they just rearrange it, you need to brush the floor.

CatherineDeB · 20/06/2016 14:55

My dyson is fine on tiles, the brushes stop whirring automatically on a hard floor and it just sucks the hairs up.

tabulahrasa · 20/06/2016 14:59

It's a dyson I have, it's not the brushes...it's just that you really notice a difference about half an hour later if you Hoover instead of brushing, it's like it moves them and they all appear again after you put it away, lol.

dizzyfucker · 20/06/2016 15:03

I can't help much because I have two molters. They like being outside though (we live in a warm climate) and rarely come in the house. One is a yellow lab and we have terracotta tiles. So the opposite problem, but just wanted to say that I like your floor not helpful

ErnesttheBavarian · 20/06/2016 18:07

Thanks dizzySmile I liked it too before I got a black dog.

I ordered her a new brush. And will do the daily rubber gloves in garden. And will move to damp mop instead of Hoover. Will let you know if it improves.

Ernest - your floors look very clean to me! I've obviously got lower standards Blush. But what a gorgeous dog Smile!

rapunzel510 · 20/06/2016 21:48

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before, but a furminator might be a good option for you OP. it removes the loose undercoat which helps reduce shedding, it's been a life saver with my mouldy dogs!

rapunzel510 · 20/06/2016 21:48

that's meant to be moulty Blush

WeAllHaveWings · 20/06/2016 21:52

We have a black lab and light coloured carpets. The only solution I can offer is to become hair blind (and hoover quickly before anyone visits).

RebuildingMyself · 20/06/2016 22:52

mouldy dogs!
Grin great typo

MissBeaHaving · 20/06/2016 23:23

Sod worrying about the hair,it's worth it,
All that Lab love & devotion comes at a very fairprice.Grin

On a more serious note,do you have a "swoofer"? I'm not sure if that's the correct name but it's a mop pole with a soft, flat tasseled type head that you use dry to sweep the floor in between hoovering, this has made a huge difference in our house with our hard flooring (2 hairy beasts).

Also a decent undercoat stripper might help,I use this .

Miss - love the well placed cushion and remote control! One of our labs is usually to be seen stretched out like that on a sofa - doesn't do dog beds or floors!

CactusTeeth · 21/06/2016 06:38

A cordless Hoover has changed the way imfeelmabout hoovering. I've got a vax one, it's great

ErnesttheBavarian · 21/06/2016 17:42

yes. she is really worth it. I wouldn't be parted from her really. Miss, I reckon your dog is my dog's twin! Shock

She had commandeered the armchair as her own. No one apart from her sits in it now

I have a golden retriever.

I second the cordless Dyson. I use it several times a day and I honestly don't think I could actually have a dog without it. I am way to bonkers about my floors.

I also second the Wellbeloved food, mostly because that's what I use and while I was losing my mind maybe a month ago, it seems to have abated somewhat.
