What sort of bin do you have?

At the moment we have a smallish pedal bin with her water bowl sitting on the lid to stop her getting into it, but this has damaged the pedal function and has led to DS leaving his rubbish on the side for her to scavenge so he doesn't have to move the water bowl. So we need a new one that is dog proof!

We now have our bin in a cupboard which closes securely. Food scraps straight into the outside bin. We have a beagle who is a stealth ninja when it comes to food.

Ah, that's not an option for us unfortunately. There is very little cupboard space in our kitchen.
Mine isn't stealthy, she's thick as two short planks really clumsy, but very determined!

something like this except our has metal clips at side to keep lid on. Was a bit annoying having to unclip one side each time to put something in the bin but better than the mess if the lid comes off. Now we can even be lax and just make sure the lid is clipped on if we are out.

I wish. I struggle to get mine to eat some days. His dried food is in swing bin but most of the time the lid is off or it sits in the bag open. He doesn't touch it. I put his food down and he will leave it for ages before eating it. I leave raw meat out to defrost on the table and he doesn't bat an eyelid.

Some times I struggle to get him to eat. He has been checked by the doctor and is fine. He is just not a food dog.

Yes & no. She'll break in to the bin if there's something particularly tasty in it yet if I forget to close her food bag properly she won't touch it, even though she quite likes it. Odd dog. As yet she's never taken from the dc plates if they've had lunch in the lounge & wandered off leaving some or stolen food off the side. She did pinch a wet nappy last week though, she then very delicately opened it, by the tabs, sniffed it, humphed at it & went for a snooze

My Mils Lab was a bugger for bin diving she had a bin where the whole thing lifted off in order to get the bag out with a smallish swing opening. He never cracked it. I'll try & find a picture because I've not described it very well.

I had a rescue dog that had been a stray and had been in kennels for over a year. She would eat anything, so unfortunately the only solution was no bin at all. We put rubbish in a carrier bag on the kitchen side, out of reach, and threw out when full or when we went out.
She could open fridge doors too. So if yours is motivated I'd get a lock on it

wandering we've got the same bin, in the kitchen. Takes a full sized black bin bag and has survived 2 large scavenging dogs for over a year. When bags are full they go in the garage till rubbish collection day.

We've got a brilliant bin. It's a pull out cupboard. There's a granite worktop above with a big hole in it with a wooden plug. You simply sweep all your crap into the hole and it goes in the bin beneath. Totally dog proof.

Blackmarigold-it's good isn't it?! I'm happy every time I come in and there's not rubbish everywhere!
