And my heart is absolutely broken.
He has been in my life 14 years. He is 15 and a half now.
He's been arthritic for a long while and now has kidney problems too I think from the meds.
He is suffering and it's time.
But oh my heart is shattered.
He's my best friend and we have been through so much.
I don't know what I'm going to do when he's gone.
Just needed to tell someone who 'gets it'.

Oh just cried reading your post :( it's heartbreaking isn't it? I had our cat PTA 4 days before Xmas. Her replacement is now snoring at my side ( 4 months old Grin) but honestly, I still have a tear for her most days. It will take time but it's like losing a member if the family, so don't feel guilty if you can't get over it quickly x

Follyfoot · 29/05/2015 21:01

I get it too.

He was loved every moment of his life with you, and that's all he would have ever wanted. A very lucky boy to spend his life with you and you were very lucky to have such a wonderful dog in your life.

The emptiness is almost unbearable isnt it, the gap feels so huge. But it does get better over time and one day you will be able to think about him and smile, rather than cry.

Shedding a few tears here in memory of your lovely Scraggy x

Oh it's so good to see a photo of him- what a lovely, lovely boy he looks!

You did really well today and it was so peaceful for him.

I know you are having a really difficult time now (I remember it well) but try to remember that we have all been through it on this thread and have come out of the grief with our happy memories still.

Here is the link to an excellent pet bereavement helpline-they can talk to you on bad days and are very good:

www.bluecross.org.uk/2083/pet-bereavement-support-service.html

You will cycle through the whole range of grief emotions and the helpline is good for talking over anything at this time. I rang them lots. Also feel free to PM me as a fellow dog owner who's been where you are now. I wish I had been on Mumsnet then as it would have helped.

Take care x

MrsJackAubrey · 29/05/2015 22:20

what a lovely looking dog - and I too was thinking of you this morning, feeling for you. It does get better, in time.

iHAVEtogetoutofhere · 29/05/2015 23:07

He looks a lovely chap, full of cheekiness, in that lovely pic.

So sorry for your loss and RIP Scraggy.x

It brought a tear to my eye to read this thread. What a wonderful life and a respectful death you've given the old boy. I found the attached pic very moving when I had my dog put to sleep, and helped us go on to take another rescue.

Can someone hold my hand please. My beloved dog is being pts tomorrow.

Hi OP,

Just thinking about you.

Tree - that is just lovely

ExitPursuedByABear · 04/06/2015 12:11

Just found your thread and had a big sob.

What a beautiful dog and what a wonderful life you gave him.

I had my mare pts last October and it was the most horrific thing I have ever been party to.

At least with smaller beasts they can go gently into that good night.

You have my every sympathy.

{{{hugs}}}
