How much do you love your dog, I'm not sure my feelings are normal!!

I mean, I absolutely love and adore my dog so much, I'm not sure it's normal or right to love a dog this much. I don't go anywhere without him, and I know he adores me too.

I took him to the vet today, I was worrying about nothing, but then got thinking omg, what will I do when the time comes. the thought of it is just horrendous.

Is it just me who feels this deeply about their dog?

Sossidge that's lovely!

Yep we all love the dog far more than we love each other! Bit like when we had DDs, we really can't remember what life was like without him - he's made us a happier and stronger unit Smile

Bubble2bubble · 21/04/2015 22:20

sossidge that made me cry, everything you wrote is so true.

ThisFenceIsComfy · 21/04/2015 22:25

Not about a dog sorry but...

I once read something that said that someone's cat was their soul mate and I actually cried!

My cat is definitely my fluffy lovely soul mate.

Gymbob · 21/04/2015 22:36

I thought that cat's didn't have owners, they have staff!

my boy loves cats and kittens, he sits really still so they will come closer

Well yes I am fairly well trained.

muddymary · 22/04/2015 05:56

when dh bought us a dog against my wishes I never expected to love her as much as I do. We've had her a year now and I love her to bits.

Just this weekend I've been in tears because there's been a few staffies stolen in our area apparently for fighting /baiting etc. Our little girl is such a softie that I know she'd be crap in a fight. Just the thought of someone taking her and putting her in that situation breaks my heart. all she wants to do is cuddle and eat - she wouldn't last 5 minutes :-(

Mrsjayy · 22/04/2015 08:18

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 22/04/2015 10:11

No it's not just you, I have more photos on my phone of my dogs than my kids. I love them the world and can't even contemplate the thought that they will cross the bridge one day.

Mrsjayy · 22/04/2015 10:20

Jaydog had a limp on sunday he caught his nail i was ready to rush him to the vet on sunday night he was hopping about he is fine now i had visions of a broken leg major operations Blush my dh keeps me in check

Gymbob · 22/04/2015 10:36

that's why I started this thread. I took my dog to the vet on Monday. he had a bit of gum that had enveloped his tooth. no problem, no treatment the vet said. I had him down for a general anaesthetic, then he wasn't going to wake from it etc....pathetic Blush

if one of the kids says, mum this bit hurts, I say here's some paracetamol you'll be fine Grin

I love my dog she's nearly 11 and the thought of being without her makes me want to cry.

She is my baby and I say that as someone who has a 17 day old pfb cuddled up on my lap, I am besotted with DS but adore my dog too, I had an emcs and begged to be let home after 24hours so the dog could meet the baby Blush

Mrsjayy · 22/04/2015 10:49

Yeah mum my head hurts och you are fine Grin thing with dogs is they cant tell us whats wrong we worry. Last year he was whinging and his stomach was growling took him to the vet same day vet gave him doggy antacids dd said you took him to the vet for indigestion Blush

I hear you Gymbob!
I love my dog to pieces. He's enhanced our family's life so much. We took him on holiday at Easter and it was a joy having him with us, and not having to worry about him missing us at home.
One of the highlights of my day is hearing him crashing up the stairs in the morning and then launching himself onto my bed for a massive cuddle. Then he goes back to sleep in the crook of my knees.
Sossidge sums it all up very well! Smile

Gymbob · 22/04/2015 12:32

we take our dog on holiday too. we used to go abroad every year, but since our boy arrived we got a tent and go camping instead so he can come with us. have to say the dog loves camping more than me Hmm

before I got my dog I was absolutely certain I would be able to put him in kennels, but I can't . he would think I've abandoned him, and I would miss him too much to enjoy a holiday.

Phaw! Loving your dogs that much! Really?

I think my dogs ok that's why I carry my little blind and deaf dog out to the garden to do his business and wait with him so he can sniff around

I take him for an occasional walk with his doggy stroller in case he gets tired

I out him in his my bed at night and he stays there squeezed up against me

Fuzzyfelt123 · 22/04/2015 14:40

If you're not keen on camping Gymbob, we took ours to Duinrell in Holland and stayed in a pet friendly cabin. It was ace, Cheaper than camping and all dog friendly. Smile

Gymbob · 22/04/2015 15:03

is that the one with the theme park attached fuzzy? but we would be separated on the ferry wouldn't we? how does it work?

OP posts:
Fuzzyfelt123 · 22/04/2015 15:39

We went through the channel tunnel. You don't get separated from the dog that way and it's 3.5 hour drive to Duinrell from Calais.
Yes it has got the theme park which is LOVELY and I normally don't like theme parks. It's set in woods which are perfect for doggie walks too.
You can take the dog everywhere with you apart from the pool complex.
How old are your kids? Ours are 8 - 12 and it was the perfect place for their age. And perfect for dog lovers!

Madbengalmum · 22/04/2015 15:45

Me too, welling up just reading this thread, my girl is the best thing ever. I absolutely worship her, and she can have whatever she wants. I even hate going on holiday and leaving her with my mum, even though she isnt in kennels i still find it upsetting.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 22/04/2015 15:50

I love my girl to bits. She is the apple of my eye and she brightens every single day, I cannot imagine a day without her (but she is going to a friend's this weekend as I am going to London to watch the marathon), she is funny, naughty, loyal and loving.

Gymbob · 22/04/2015 16:06

they're 15 and 16. we're in the north, so it would be better to go by ferry to zeebrugge. I've heard of that place before. it doesn't sound too restrictive. I've digressed folks sorry
