Do you get asked if you will sell your dog?

Been to the local town today. Eric always gets plenty of attention because he's cute I think and loves a fuss from anyone who asks.
Twice today we've been asked if we'd sell him to them Hmm one even asked how much we wanted and to name our price when we said he isn't for sale and the other thought he'd be a great Christmas present for his wife and kids.
It's not the first time we've been asked but it seems so odd to me, Eric's our dog for life not a commodity to be traded.
So do people really walk up to complete strangers and ask to buy their dog or is it just that we happen to bump into a fair few weirdos?

Our dog hates anyone touching his feet or grabbing his face, a few strangers have grabbed his face in the past (even when warned not to) and got a rather nasty nipped hand for doing so!

Noone's ever asked if I'd sell my gormless sprocker. Strange, that.

Yes!

A small child of about 5 asked if she could buy her. Grin

I've been asked a few times if I'll sell Bob. Always by people I know to be travellers. That's a statement not a judgement before anyone jumps on me...

We've got a tough-looking JRT and we've been asked a few times by rough-looking types if we'd like to sell him, also comments that he'd be good to breed from which is not going to happen.

Yep, more than once. When I say no, neither dog is for sale, the next inquiry is usually about getting a puppy (good luck with that, my bitch is spayed) or a stud service from my dog. I tell them he is not a stud dog, and then leave. I have seen several Shih Tzu the same color as my bitch in the area, but not a single one like my boy, so I think that is what generates the interest. All it does is make me paranoid, and glad I don't let them run around off their leashes or go walking without my husband. I keep a very close eye on them, even at home when they are in their own back yard.
