A Man kicked my dog this morning

I was horrified! Yes, BastardDog is dog on dog aggressive, but it is all bark and no bite - (sound and fury signifying nothing).

I was marching up the canal towpath trying to keep warm, when my dog crouched down into 'play' position and I saw two big bouncy Munsterlanders approaching. Their owner was a long way behind. I see these dogs regularly and chat to both the man and woman who own them, on several occasions. I always call my boy back and put him on the lead until they are passed and have discussed with them the reasons why. Today I was concerned that I had seen them too late, but bless his soul, my boy came back when shouted so I put him on the lead and crossed over to the other side of the canal. As we passed I joked with the man that they would all have ended up in the lock if they had met and he said something about tossing a coin.

I carried on walking but a train went past and my dog likes to chase them. As I turned round I realised that the man had crossed over behind, so my dog ran into his dogs as he was chasing the train. They had a sniff then a fight broke out at which point the man started shouting "I'm not having this". I shouted my boy and he came back but went ahead of me. I walk with a stick so was trying to catch up with him to put him on the lead but the man kept on walking in the same direction, quicker than me and caught up just as I was about to put my dog on the lead and another fight broke out. At which point the man kicked my dog in the belly making him yelp in pain.

I asked him what he thought he was doing and he said he didn't want a vet's bill. Then he said that dogs will be dogs and it shouldn't affect our friendship. What fecking friendship? I marched off with him shouting after me that it shouldn't affect us. He then shouted that I had ruined a lovely day Confused.

Not sure why I am posting really. It just really upset me. I make every effort to avoid other dogs. I know he had every right to cross the canal and walk in the same direction, but I still don't think he needed to kick him.

Stupid bastard.

We are too similar.

Be careful.

The dog kicker was a twat.

Exit, from what I can see you DID use strategies to avoid a dog fight: crossing the canal, then trying to get your dog in lead. Not your fault that twit kept following you. He is as much responsible for the dog fight as you if not more so as he knew about your dogs issues and failed to keep his dog away. And balls to the people that say he shouldn't have needed to, because frankly it's a bit if self preservation really isn't it? If I'd spoken to a fellow dog owner and knew their dog was prime to aggression then I'd avoid them if I saw them with their dog off lead. I certainly would follow them at a faster pace so that the dogs were in a confrontational situation.

I had some twat kick my dog when she was a pup. His dogs were always on extension leads and he objected to my puppy being off lead and sniffing his dogs. Some people are just dicks.

I've also had my dogs attacked by other dogs and never kicked the other dog. I have rather stupidly grabbed the other dog's collar tho and shouted at the owner.

It's a parallel universe in here some days.

Exit. You didn't do anything wrong. Captain stupid did in following you and not having his dogs under control. What was he thinking? He's an idiot, pay no heed.

I thought I said the same thing yesterday as chipping and binary , anyway agree with them. cannot believe some other posters here

GraysAnalogy · 04/12/2014 11:05

Right so you ask for people's opinions, then give back passive aggressive comments and call people 'loons' when they don't agree. That's really offensive by the way the latter.

I have a dog aggressive dog. He's been trained to buggery but unlike the others, he just feels intimidated by other dogs. Which is why I don't go walking him off lead on canals. Because I know that 1. He's a danger to himself and others and 2. There's idiots around who wouldn't notice im trying to avoid them.

ExitPursuedByABear · 04/12/2014 11:47

I am sorry if I didn't mention you punter.

I don't remember asking for opinions.

When you post here you're opening yourself up to opinion, but quite clearly you wanted support only and decide to name call those of us who don't agree. Anyway I'm glad your dog is okay, most important thing.

I have kicked a dog before . I would however not kick a dog for having a barking fight am i correct in thinking no bites?! I am a neurotic dog mother but not sure i'd care if puppy had a barking fight they are dogs after all! I kicked a JR who came out of no whrre pinned my puppy down bit her neck i shooed her off she ran off then came back and repeated with the owner screaming "she hates other bitches" from a great distance useless twat! I think in busy places obviously keep on lead but sounds pretty quiet.

wheresthelight · 07/12/2014 21:49

sorry OP but I think you are an incredibly irresponsibile owner. you are fully aware that you have an aggressive dog prone to attacking other dogs and yet you openly admit that you will not keep it on a lead. you are precisely the sort of owner that gives the rest of us a bad name.

keep your aggressive dog on a lead and muzzled when in public.

Exit, sympathies. It's hard having a Bastard Spaniel. It all went wrong, as happens, and your dog got booted by a human who ought to know better. Perhaps it takes a reactive dog owner to understand how difficult it can be. His dogs chased yours when you recalled. That fight was his fault. And he kicked your dog? I hope his cock drops off.

ExitPursuedByABear · 07/12/2014 22:59

Yo Snakey. I need some hugging.

OP posts:
SnakeyMcBadass · 07/12/2014 23:09

I can stick my tongue down your throat if you like?

How is Bastard Dog? Not noticeably hurt I hope? Although if he's anything like the Bastard Spaniel his head could fall off and the crazy mutt would keep running.

ExitPursuedByABear · 07/12/2014 23:15

Tongues would be good. He is fine. Of course.

OP posts:
wheresthelight · 08/12/2014 07:36

absolutely no need for abuse OP, have reported your post as it's completely unnecessary.

you are irresponsibile and clearly not about to take any responsibility for your aggressive dog. I hope the man reports you to the appropriate authorities for not being in control of your dangerous dog

ExitPursuedByABear · 08/12/2014 08:18

Ha ha ha

BellaVita · 08/12/2014 08:35

Am with Snakey on this.

I don't know about bastard spaniels as I don't have one although Kiki dog is best friends with one and they go out walking together (not with me but with my DS).

Stupid man should have his dogs under control.

EveDallasRetd · 08/12/2014 08:40

My sympathies Exit. MuttDog is wonderful, but I recently had to look after BastardLurcher for 2 weeks and she sounds similar to yours - all mouth no trousers, yes?

I spent 2 weeks running after her and apologising to other dog owners - the only saving grace was that she'd stop 20ft away and bark, then turn tail if the dog barked back. She's terrifying looking though, and I am thankful that none of the other dog owners did something as twatty as kicking her (although they've have had to catch her first, which is doubtful).

Sounds like your BastardDogs recall is good though, that's one thing. Have you thought about getting a yellow coat or neckerchief for him? They do seem to help. Owner may have gone the other way of you had one

BlueberryWafer · 08/12/2014 09:18

You say your dog has good recall yet he was aimlessly chasing a train. He could have knocked a small child over - he clearly wasn't stopping for anything in his way as you said he ran into the man's dogs. My dog has been attacked by many dogs running up to her, and sorry but I can see why he kicked your dog. How is he to know he wouldn't have ripped his dogs throats open?

I suggest you keep your dog on a lead in future. Dog aggressive dogs are scary - no wonder he kicked him!

BlueberryWafer · 08/12/2014 09:23

BinarySolo it pisses me off when people let their dogs come and sniff mine when she's on her extension lead. Have you never thought maybe there's a reason some dogs are on leads? My mum has very snap happy terrier who she never lets off the lead. Some idiot had their puppy off the lead. That puppy decided to bound up to snappy terrier, get itself snarled at and the owner went hysterical at my mum for having a snappy dog! When really the owner of the puppy should have had her bloody dog on a lead.

Idiot dog owners give the rest of us a bad name.

CocktailQueen · 08/12/2014 09:31

Hmm, sounds like there was fault on both sides here.

I've kicked a dog before. Was out with my ds aged 2 for a walk. Loose dog careering barking through woods, jumps up on ds, knocks him down - I was right beside him but just not quick enough. Then dog starts jumping all over ds lying on the ground. I kicked it and shouted at it. Then the owner appeared and told me off for kicking his dog. Well. I let rip. Stupid inconsiderate farking selfish dog owners.

But if I was you I'd keep your dog on a lead and improve its recall. You can't be on the lookout for other dogs all the time.

ChippingInAutumnLover · 08/12/2014 09:47

Exit. Clearly comprehension just isn't some people's strong point. I think I'd hide this thread now if I were you because arguing with idiots just isn't worth the effort or deflections.
