We now feel that we're in a position to get a Ddog!!all of the online breed selectors suggest terriersHmm
We have 3 Dc..2 in school and one at home...I'm also a sahm.pre dc we always had boxers and as much as we adore them we'd prefer to wait til the dc are older to get another, purely because of their boisterous natureSmile

Mehsmum, rage syndrome isn't exclusive to cockers, but is more commonly found in the show lines of English Cockers and Springer Spaniels, though it has also been found in a dozen or so other breeds. More common in solid colour cockers.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 26/10/2014 18:56

My boy is black. A breeder told me that he thought it was more common in golden cockers.

NigellasGuest · 26/10/2014 19:06

my show cocker is black and white - I've also heard "rage" if it exists is more common in solid colour cockers and especially golden ones. Why on earth would that be? I don't get it - you would think colour of fur is just a superficial thing!

NigellasGuest · 26/10/2014 19:10

No rage here!

Even Better, our dogs are very similar! I showed Dh and he said it's a lovely pic of dpup.

Op, our pup is a cross - Springer Spaniel x Patterdale Terrier. I really like mix/x's. Our previous dog was a blue roan cocker. He had heaps of personality and was such a friendly little chap. We did heaps of research before getting him, and was advised by literally every breeder we spoke to not to have a solid colour (particularly a black) as our first cocker due to the rage.

Podengo. Looks like a terrier but is a sighthound. Just don't get a Plushcourt one.

My Patterdale x is similar as well ( apparently xJRT) . Patterdale mixes are the best dogs !

We have Maltipoo. Cross with a Maltese terrier and a miniature poodle and hes awesome!
Small and fluffy, doesnt molt and is great with the kids.
They are so loving and quick to learn Smile

Wolfiefan · 26/10/2014 21:11

Viva. What is plushcourt?
Too many lovely dogs!

RoseyHope · 26/10/2014 21:14

you would think colour of fur is just a superficial thing!

It's do with the genetic component of rage syndrome; it's not that solid gold codes for rage, but that the syndrome is passed down through genetic lines, and the lines also pass on the colour. Or at least it's thought to be that way!

My sprocker is an absolute angel. But then I am such an amazing dog owner or bloody fortunate

VivaLeBeaver · 26/10/2014 21:19

Plushcourt is the puppy farm breeder I got my dog from.

NigellasGuest · 26/10/2014 21:31

ah thank you RosyHope that makes more sense now you explain it!

MiddletonPink · 26/10/2014 21:31

Borders are so like other terriers!

My friends BT killed her chickens, bit umpteen people and chased everything in sight!

I also 3 on my walk most days and they always bark like mad when we pass in the street.

MehsMum · 26/10/2014 21:54

Rosey, thanks for the info.

MonsoonInBelize · 26/10/2014 22:11

Not keen on terriers I must say, basildonbond and pantsjustpants did especially love both your dogs though I must say Smile.

EvenBetter · 26/10/2014 22:27

Pants they do look alike! Ours is a springer Sheltie cross (she looks nothing like either...maybe vaguely springery, but has the deranged personality of both a springer AND a herding dog...)

And not all goldens get it either. It's a bit of a mystery.

My boy on the other hand is gorgeous. Grin

gruffalosarse · 26/10/2014 22:58

My chocolate labrador is a legend..fab dog, great with my kids, annoying as hell when there is food around but otherwise a lovely addition to the family.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/10/2014 10:28

EvenBetter that photo looks likes your dog is on a roof with a chimney stack behind her (until I enlarged the pic)

Oooh yes that could be classed as deranged Blush Grin

SistersOfHearsey · 27/10/2014 12:04

Scottie. Lovely temperament, but a bit slow on the uptake from time to time Grin
