Awful awful awful :(

Just donated through the virgin just giving link. Hopefully all donations there will filter through to the care of all the uprooted doglets who survived.

Humans never fail to amaze me with regard to animals. Let alone the number of dogs / pets who suffer and, if they are lucky, are rehomed from rehoming centres. Now even the poor guys who are waiting for homes are prey to an allegedly 8 year old arsonist, makes me feel stabby.

Currently have my second rehomed staffie and will support rescue centres always as much as I can.

I've donated to dog's trust for over 20 years, but it never feels like enough :(

On a more uplifting note, if you visit the local news pages, you'll see the piece on the 2 guys who broke in to rescue the dogs. Makes you feel a little better x

So tragic. An 8 year old boy! I suspect he didn't think about the consequences of what he was doing...just thought it would be a lark to start a fire and see what happened. Bet he never dreamed he'd be killing so many poor dogs and endangering the lives of humans and animals. This is so sad.

I'm struggling with money this month, but am going to contact my local rescue centre to see if I can help them out in some way. What awful nes.

badasahatter · 11/09/2014 23:04

news even.

scaevola · 11/09/2014 23:05

The GMP website says the boy arrested is 14 years old.

frownyface · 11/09/2014 23:08

Police have released a statement-a 14 yr old boy is currently in custody on suspicion of arson.

They have asked for people to call in if they saw anything, and know that feelings are running high but are early on in their investigations and working with the local fire brigade.

Hmmm

Oh I'm slightly relieved it's not an 8 year old, I have a 9 year old boy and the thought was making me sick...still 14 is young :(

I hope all the helpers who appeared last night have got the surviving dogs to safe temporary homes.

And I suppose planning for the new (and coping with the interim) begins now.

I really hope that MDH will put out a list of dogs that died, in case their owners are still looking for them.

Those poor dogs, but well done to local residents in the help they have given.

vjg13 · 12/09/2014 14:03

Our local dog grooming place (Greater Manchester) is collecting food donations etc and they will deliver to them. Worth asking in your local area if you can't get to North Manchester Police HQ. I bulk buy my food and treats so always have a lot in.

Pets At Home have posted on Facebook that all their stores can be used to donate items for MDH.

I'm probably going to be near one later so planing to buy some sacks of dog food for them.

There are two petitions that you can sign to help:

  1. to get an award for the two guys who risked their lives to save 20 of the dogs:
www.yousignanimals.org/signatures.php?petition_id=170&sign=ok
  1. one to encourage the boy who lit the fire to get the maximum possible sentence
