How to sell a border collie puppy?

Ok my friend bought this puppy a week ago as her young teenage friends really wanted one. ( long story)However as cute as it is, they are not really going to be able to give it the exercise and stimulation it will need and she has decided it would be best for them and the puppy for it to go to a home that can better meet its needs. It's 9 weeks old. Where do you think would be a good place to sell it?

Just sad, everything that is wrong with dog breeding and buying a dog. Return to breeder or take to the pound- it will be snapped up. Consider the money lost and put it down to experience.

I wasn't asking for her to be judged, she knows she's made a mistake which is why she is trying to rectify it now whilst the dog is still a puppy. It's a long story why she bought it which isn't relevant to this post I'm just trying to help her find a good and appropriate home for it and I don't know anything about dogs.

If the breeder won't have it back then take it to rescue centre to be rehomed responsibly.

The breeder - if a decent breeder - will take it back, she should contact them first.

The right thing to do would be to give the dog to a rescue centre that will vet prospective owners.

There are plenty of collie specific rescues she could contact.

I find it really annoying when people want to rehome their dog because they've made a mistake but still want to recoup/make money.

Good ideas all. It's not about the money, it's about the dog getting a home where it can get the stimulation and exercise it will need, especially being a collie.

Then a breed specific rescue is probably your best bet.

Sorry but you op came across as a but mercinary as it was about selling the pup. There's certain websites that are just full of ads selling pups after a few weeks as the owner didn't properly consider the care it would need. It's so sad and entirely avoidable.

Yes I think it's been a steep learning curve for her and her kids, despite begging her for a puppy don't have the maturity or sense of responsibility to put the work in that it will need now and in the future.

Contact breeder first, if that fails then Border Collie Rescue (they'll probably have several contacts nationwide). It's brilliant that she's doing something NOW and not when the dog's a delinquent teenager. Rescue can't afford to buy dogs back, but will find a decent home, then your friend should think of the money she's saving over the next 10-15 years and not what she's just spent out. Good luck, hope pup finds a new home soon.

Did your friend sign a contract with the breeder?

Don't whatever you do, DO NOT try to sell the pup privately. There are too many people who just want a sweet pup and won't train it properly and it will end up in rescue, in a pound, or dead. Please, please advise to go to a special bc rescue if the breeders won't take it back.

If the breeder won't take the pup back (which I'm presuming they won't as a decent breeder wouldn't have let them have a pup in the first place) then your friend needs to find the dog a space at a breed specific rescue. There are loads of BC rescues as unfortunately there are loads of unwanted BCs.

Just a few off the top of my head:

Border Collie Trust

Valgrays Border Collie Rescue

Wiccaweys

Freedom of Spirit Trust for Border Collies

There will be more as well, these are just the major ones I could remember.

I'm not sure it was an actual puppy farm but it was a farm in Wales they visited whilst on holiday there. As far as I'm aware there were no checks in her suitability to take home the puppy.

There is no reason to avoid Wiccaweys at the moment Nuttymutti - as someone who is very closely involved, I can categorically state that their conditions are good, many people have access to their kennels and facilities and the so called anti-Wiccaweys camp is treading on extremely thin ice by spreading libel and slander.

I would suggest that anyone wishing to place their dog in a rescue goes and sees the rescue for themselves and makes their own decision about whether or not it is the right place for their dog, rather than relying on 3rd hand bullshit spattered across the web.

If I sound defensive and angry, it is because I have had to help Wiccaweys deal with this crap for the last 2 years and the damage caused by a few people to what is actually a good rescue, has been unbelievable.

I'm not going to get into an argument about it or derail the thread further, but if people have concerns about a rescue, go and see the place for yourselves before sending dogs there.

I am also very closely involved with Wiccaweys and have been for many years. I have 4 wiccaweys dogs. They have their hands full at the moment.

Paul and Sarah have admitted that they do not want to get over crowded. Have you been there this week QuietTiger?
