What are you thoughts on this?

They have decided to ban these four breeds as well as the usual banned breeds.

I had a pure bred, working line JRT before we got my JRT X (who is commonly known as The Devil Dog) she was ace with people and dogs she knew but most certainly suffered from "Little Big Dog Syndrome" with unknown dogs. I was pregnant when I got her though, so sadly she never got socialised as she should have done. It is always the owner, never the dog (barring temporary puppyhood issues and rescue dogs)

Anecdotally, the family Akita Inuit would let her sit on his back and chew his ears (probably didn't help with the fact that she believed she could eat the Rotty round the corner in one bite)

NoEgo, there are plenty of sites that are completely dog free and as a dog owner I fully respect those sites and don't take my dog along. As I said, he isn't on WoWo's banned list but is a large labradoodle. Who is often fully clipped so resembles a large lab rather than a teddy bear. He is always leashed and tethered at camp sites (I have a big ground spike that I use for tethering). Some people are scared of him due to his size, however he is well behaved and is controlled.

The point is, WoWo has banned 4 breeds. One being the Pittbull which isn't legal in the uk any. I assume they are referring to staffies really. Which co-incidentally are known to be great with children and are referred to as the nanny-dog.

We could never have taken any of our boxers camping because they hated being outside in the rain

I'm not even convinced the pit bull ban is not ignorance. I know so many people that go on about put bulls and actually mean staffies.

This isn't that unusual you know, they have just been more specific than they should have been. Most campsites, cottages, even long term rental housing has the right to allow or refuse your dog to stay. I rent and stay in dog friendly cottages and have been asked about breed/temperament of dog in quite a few circumstances. I'm going to go against the grain here, but I don't think anyone has the right to dictate that their dog be allowed if they are not. Same with long term rentals really, you have to find one that will allow your dog and its your own responsibility to make sure it's well trained and behaved. If you want to blame someone, blame the dog owners that aren't responsible, don't pick up their shit, don't keep them under control. It's them who are the problem.

owllady I have no problem with no dog rules. I also have no problem with rules about dogs being well behaved/not causing a nuisance/being kept on lead. I do have a problem with banning particular breeds as if that is going to keep people safe and free from nuisance, as it won't because you can't predict those things based on breed. It's just pandering to the snobbery and prejudice of the type of people that gawp open mouthed when DH walks our staffie to daycare in a sharp three piece suit. Their tiny closed minds don't seem to be able to compute it.
