What are you thoughts on this?

They have decided to ban these four breeds as well as the usual banned breeds.

A 'tummy tickle test' wtf? Not all dogs like having their tummies tickled, mine certainly is not keen on being assaulted by strangers.
Perhaps they should impose a similar test on adults, after all some people may find some adults intimidating and adults can kill with bare hands.

EasyToEatTiger · 20/08/2014 08:49

All very yummy. Typo spotted on their website.

NCISaddict · 20/08/2014 14:20

They've deleted all the adverse comments on their FB page, cowardly or what?

LividofLondon · 20/08/2014 17:39

It's a shame posts can be deleted on FB because there were over 900 comments regarding their policy. Hopefully the word has got around to enough people before they deleted them.

NCISaddict · 20/08/2014 17:52

It's on twitter too and they can't delete those as they're not on their twitter account.
Completely spineless of them to delete the FB ones, if they're happy with their policy then they should be able to defend it.

FWIW I have no problem with places being 'no dog' and don't have one of the banned breeds but banning some breeds and not others plus the 'test' is stupid.
That and calling GSD's Alsations, what era do they hale from?

misdee · 20/08/2014 23:07

I would prefer an all or nothing approach. I don't have one of their banned breeds. I do go camping with and without my dog. If I am taking him with us then I look for a site that allow dogs and doesn't put them to a tickle test. Some sites and events I go to don't allow dogs and I am fine with that, as I use a local kennel that I am very happy with.

Same here, happy with no dog policies, I love my dog but cheerfully accept that not everyone does but breed specific and tummy tickle tests, no way.

jonicomelately · 20/08/2014 23:11

Boxers? They are the best breed IMO and I've had three Confused

misdee · 20/08/2014 23:13

I cannot believe they have removed the whole post about it. Over 900 comments. They also removed their star ratings/reviews

We used to have a boxer, the yorkie from next door used to come in to our garden and steal our boxers dinner - our dog would sit there crying and waiting for someone to save his dinner - he had real killer instinct!

misdee · 20/08/2014 23:17

What are they going to do? Ban each breed based on the number of complaints about a dogs stature or reputation even though the dogs haven't attacked? Will they slowly add more breeds to their lists?

Off to train tomorrow with at least five GSD's, my Border Collie is in love with one who regards him with slightly amused disdain Smile the only one of the group I wouldn't trust is a chihuahua/jack russell cross who has already killed pet rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens plus attacked a bull terrier who just stood there looking faintly pissed off. Even he is fine when on a lead.

D0oinMeCleanin · 20/08/2014 23:25

I find amusing that they would allow my snappy, ill tempered, child tolerant terrier, but not my dad's quiet, child loving, soft as butter bull cross.

If they tickled my terrier's tummy they are liable to lose a finger or three, the bull cross would love them forever more. He is a legend at the campsite my parents normally use, if they leave him home with me, they are berated for not bringing him.

I might actually turn up with my feral children, snappy terrier and in my Dad's old rusted, scruffy brown caravan (since white vans aren't allowed) just for the fun of it Grin

NoEgowoman · 20/08/2014 23:30

As someone who knows very little about dogs I find it very unnerving to go to campsites where aggressive looking dogs seem to have free rein. I see dogs as somewhat unpredictable so feel afraid of what might happen to my children if they didn't do the right thing. I would prefer not to have this fear hanging over me. I understand that people love their dogs but dogs nowadays are sometimes encouraged to be aggressive by irresponsible owners. How am I supposed to distinguish. I'd rather not find myself and my children excluded from places because I feel afraid for my children. Why should dogs have free rein and my children end up excluded.

NCISaddict · 20/08/2014 23:30

Make sure you film it if you do D0oin It would make my day. My friend says she will turn up with her 6 obedience trial GSD's. Far better behaved than a lot of adult humans.

goodasitgets · 20/08/2014 23:34

Are they actually insane? I think they've named all the breeds that are the nicest dogs I've met Grin

Jaw strength - WTAF?! Have they seen what a jack Russell can do?
The two dogs I've been bitten by were a working collie and a husky...

NCISaddict · 20/08/2014 23:38

Yes NoE I accept that but we are not saying have dogs running free regardless, have an on lead policy or even a no dog policy by all means but not a ban random breeds and enforce a meaningless test for the dogs you do let in.

D0oinMeCleanin · 20/08/2014 23:42

My terrier is a JRT X. My hands bear witness to what they can do when they decide they're pissed off (a few behaviourists and several muzzles later, my digits are all now safe)

NoEgo, everyone here is happy for campsites to ban all dogs so that campers can chose dog free sites if they want/need to. However banning certain breeds only, is not only lulling the less dog experienced into a false sense of security, but is bigging up breed prejudice, which causes lots of problems for innocent, responsible dog owners as well as rescues and pounds.

A small terrier or badly trained lab can easily cause just as much damage as boxer or GSD could.

Terrierterror · 20/08/2014 23:45

NoE these dogs might look quite unnerving.

They could all stay.

(Obviously I chose the dogs pictured based on how they might be viewed by someone who is nervous of dogs and not based on any breed characteristics. And I'm sure the dogs are sweeties.)

Awww, we grew up with a Dobe. When my mum shouted "kids, medicine" (aka vitamin tablets) the dog was always at the back of the queue.

Kids in our street used to knock on our door and ask if Shera was allowed out to play. She was scared of our rabbit, spiders and moths. The guinea pig was her best mate.

Terrierterror · 21/08/2014 00:09

You hardly see them around any more. Where I live anyway. I used to go round and play with the neighbours' one when I was a child. She was lovely.

D0oinMeCleanin · 21/08/2014 00:16

You don't see them much here either. I'd take another in, in a second. People local, who knew her, still tell us they've never met another dog like Shera (I assume referring to how soft and friendly she was)

Terrierterror · 21/08/2014 00:17

Actually a bull mastiff was one of the first dogs that our then 13 week old puppy got to bounce at say hello to properly. She utterly calm and placid in the face of mad enthusiasm.

Terrierterror · 21/08/2014 00:20

All dogs are lovely in their own way but some dogs are just one offs.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 21/08/2014 00:26

All the JRTs I've ever known are grumpy intolerent sets of sharp teeth on legs, but they aren't banned.
