Is there such a thing? One that loves everyone and everything? I would have said labs but I know some that hate other dogs so I'm not sure now! ( fantisising over my next dog as alandog hates all new people and all dogs)..

pumping thats really useful to know/bear in mind, thanks.
How are they for energy/stamina levels? Will they go on big walks or play ball for a while or do they tire more easily? And will getting a mixed breed (we were looking at puggles too for example) help some of the health issues - I know pigs can have some breathing/heart issues can't they? Sorry, I should start my own thread really and stop hijacking this one!

And pugs too! Not pigs!

Well my Golden Retriever is the loveliest dog in the world. Affectionate, easily trained, great fun, loves long walks but is patient and placid in between, not at all fussy food wise and great for hoovering up scraps, great with the kids and their friends, happily stays with my parents if I am away and just ............brilliant. I love her and turn a blind eye to the hair and the obsession with jumping into the muddiest of puddles Smile

Tea - mine are full of beans. They go out for 40 mins to an hour each morning for a charge around the fields and a quick 10 mins round the block in the evening, that suits them. They also have the exercise of following my every movement thro the day. But, mine are some of the fittest pugs I know. (We go on saddo pug walks with lots of others). I think they have been conditioned to expect that level of exercise and are fit as a result. Other dog walkers are often surprised by their speedy sprightly naughty nature.

Puggles could be the best or worst of dogs. You could have the character, playful, shedding, disobedience paired with a highly energetic intelligent working dog with a big voice. It's a gamble as you wouldn't know what you have until they've been with you a while. I'm a believer that pedigree breeds are for a reason to combine suitable traits*. Beagles and pug mixes have the potential to be a nightmare.
*Cockapoos are the exception. I love me a cockapoo.

But baby loves them, and they love baby's sticky food covered fingers

Basset hound! My girls love him! He sleeps all day long, loves going for an amble around the park with them. The girls share his bed with him for cuddles and he is so gentle with them. Down sides, he molts a lot, does tend to get a bit stinky and he is stubborn! Wouldn't change him for anything though and would certainly get another one! He is a gentle giant and adores all children and the cats!

Also going to say a Bassett Hound. They moult a lot and are always after food, but the soppiest, most loving dogs. They are very loyal and patient with children and in the evenings mine can be found curled up under a blanket with DH on the sofa.

I was born while my mom and dad had a german shepherd. Apparently he loved me to bits. And we had another when he died. Another amazing dog. I worked at a vets for a while and the nastiness dogs a I saw wasa great dane and a westie. I gad a two yr old and a 22month old when they are bigger I will be getting a german shepherd puppy. Every can be nasty and every dog can be nice. Its how you bring them up. Just like kids - some have mannes and some dont.
