Pup attacked :(

My gorgeous little man (8 month old cocker) was attacked by 4 dogs in our local field today.
He wasn't bleeding anywhere even though he was really bitten. I took him straight to the vet who checked him all over, his heart rate and temp was fine, she found a small graze, but said he was badly bruised as he was very uncomfortable when she touched him, she gave him a pain killer and a anti biotic.

This afternoon had been dreadful, he will hardly walk, he is just looking at the floor, won't eat treats, shaking really badly, I feel like a terrible mum, I promised him I would never allow anything to happen to him and I did.
He's currently a shadow of his usual self, I just want to cry.

What can I d to help him, how long does bruising pain last in dogs? When will he get his bounce back?
Will he always be traumatised by this?

Thank you :(

Oh bless him - everything crossed, I really hope you've heard by now. The vets sound like they're being great.

Big hugs for you too - and don't beat yourself up. WHEN he's home and capable of playing out, I'd take him out with another friendly, confident dog he already knows and take him somewhere you know you will see other dogs but keep away from them if you can, so he can see them but hopefully not close enough for him to attract their attention and come over.

Another thing might be to put a yellow ribbon on him (not as daft as it sounds - www.yellowdoguk.co.uk/ ). It's slowly filtering into peoples consciousness. And loads of his favourite treats.

Sorry for not getting back sooner, it's been the worst day of my life. He died. Give your little or big ones an extra cuddle and treat today.
Miss my little man so much.

Oh how sad. So sorry to hear this Karbea. Allow yourself time to grieve and get over the awful shock of what happened. But please report this to the police/dog wardens and get those owners into a shit storm so they don't allow this to happen again.

Hugs to you x

SallyBear · 19/10/2013 16:44

RVPisnomore · 19/10/2013 16:48

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 19/10/2013 16:49

God Karbea I'm so sorry. (Sorry if my username seems rather inappropriate now Hmm.) Can't imagine how you must be feeling. Hope it was peaceful. Poor little boy.

If you see those other dog owners again just let them know what happened. They might care enough to keep their dogs under control before it happens again.

So sorry. Hugs. Hmm

Bowlersarm · 19/10/2013 16:49

I'm so sorry. As others have said report this dog warden definitely, but it is worth trying the police some for forces are interested and will at least visit the owners.
