Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound ).

Come The Day
Come the day I take that final bend,
Can I count on you to be my friend?
To see I?m treated just and fair,
It means so much to know you care.

For, what the future holds in store,
Now that I can race no more,
Should be addressed for every hound,
Who parts the punter from his pound.

Tell them I don?t ask for much,
A kindly word, a gentle touch,
Somewhere warm to lay my head,
A meal each day to keep me fed,
Not just life- but quality,
This is how it ought to be.

Do not see me swept away,
I long to live another day,
With peace of mind, tranquillity,
And those who care surrounding me,
So tell them all- you have that choice,
I beg of you to be my voice.

Cinnamon - I wonder whether you might say that, given the minding, you would take one on as soon as it was relatively well housetrained? Someone might also be more willing to foster a pup or two if they knew that it was definitely only short-term.

Two days a week we go to toddlers straight from school run so we're out for 3-3 1/2 hours total and then another 45 min school run a bit later. I would do most of the work as dh is out 7-5.30 mon-fri, he's very good at clearing up accidents when he's home though but not too confident at any kind of discipline/training.

cinnamon I know you have looked high and low in the UK for suitable dogs but what about Zorro or Hugo? Hugo is already fostered in Wales and looks lovely... perhaps a possibility?

They both look lovely but neither mention how they are with cats, could give them a call I guess.

Cinnamon - trying to find the right dog is a nightmare, I can sympathise - when we were losing / had lost mistledog I was spending hours looking on-line and ringing people up and sending long emails etc...

Anybody looking for Alf 3-4 years old Saluki in South East (doesn't sound like he'd work with cats) but is lovely!

That's good - another place that you could definitely swoop if the right dog came up. Any hopefuls at the moment?

They have one cat safe called Honey but other than one who says definitely not with cats the others don't mention it. They said they'll be in touch when they have a suitable dog but contact them if we see any specifics.

That's fantastic, Cinnamon. I know some of the people from Scruples - they are luffly, was chatting to them on Sunday actually at the 1000 Sighthounds event. You will be in safe hands. It may take a little while but the right dog is out there for you.

Great news Cinnamon. [cinnamon]

I thought Lola looked nice on their site, but it doesn't say if she's cat tested.

Erk! Blush

I really need to switch my brain on today. That was of course supposed to be a Smile

Scruples have a FB page. We walked alongside a mature whippet bitch today. She was considerably smaller than Poochio. Sweet too. Her "sister" came haring over to tell her off. Grin

I've seen a dog. Smile Not a pointy. Well pointy-ish. Trying to find out more details. It is via a rescue but we will see. Trying not to get hopes up.

I mentioned Lola in my email back to them too moosemama

There's a lovely lurcher on LL called Bradie but he's afraid of men, not sure how that'd work!

Darwin is having his bits chopped tomorrow and we should be able to see him at the weekend.

Had a look at Heidi's puppies too, UNO is reserved but there are still a few. Dh said its my choice and if I think I can handle a puppy he'd support me. There is a level of safety in a puppy but need to read a bit more. Does anyone know when Heidi's pups were born? Just wondering how old they'll be on 20th sept.

And fingers crossed for you peanutpatty, is there a link?

Report
moosemama · 12/09/2013 08:43

Aw, Bradie looks like such a sweetheart. Such a worried, gentle face. Sad

Fear of men is a bit of an issue though.

I think Heidi's pups will be 8 weeks on 20th September. My picks were Uno and Jandals, the two naughty ones! I always seem to pick the scamps. Flint is going to be a stunner when he grows up though and seems more steady and thoughtful than the others.

Sounds like you have more options now, fingers crossed that means you'll soon have your new family member. Smile

Jandals has lovely markings. Flint looks as though he's going to have a gorgeous coat and be a real stunner. Blackberry would be my choice - such a cutie!!! I also think that they're going to be 8 wks then - I think that there is a thread on chat which started when Heidi started labour.

I think that, with a puppy, whilst there will be some 'nature' quality about them, you would also be able to shape their character significantly by, for instance, play and training. I know you want a dog for the DCs to play with - if you started early with the puppy, I would think that would just be part of its general routine.

I'm sure that their current fosterer would be happy to speak to you about them all anyway.

Probably the most difficult thing would be toddler groups - would you be able to get someone in for a little bit of that time for the first few weeks? Probably an hour or so alone wouldn't be an issue anyway - you could get some advice on how long you could leave them (in a crate?) as long as they had been exercised / played with before you leave...

Is there anything stinkier than a greyhound's farts?

Good god. vom --> Envy

I think I have a pretty strong constitution but they turn my stomach! Shock

I'm sure they'd be no lack of people to play before we go out! That's why I wanted a book suggestion really for tips on length of time to leave them and training and socialisation. Dh has some holiday to take so was thinking he could do a couple of days at home for first few weeks then half term is only around the corner. Flint, Jangles and Blavkberry are all cuties. Did see that someone had asked whether they'd be long or short haired, could be a problem for dh.

The lady who contacted me before about Tess has been back on the phone as her fosterer is not adopting her. She's being a bit pushy tbh. Told her we are busy this weekend as its ds2's birthday and my running club are doing the round Norfolk relay and I'm marshalling a change over point but she's pushing for when we can visit her. Have told her not to wait for us and just put her back on LL as I don't want to jeopardise her future.

I have a cat the comes very close to greyhounds for smell, when they both get going it awful!!
