Csn you share any you have come Across? Not just 'funny' names like Dave or Stanley, which are now common but actual unique names.

I've worked with dogs for 20 years, come across most names several times! We are about to get our first ever puppy after all our rescues so get to name it! Names I've come across recently as examples include Fleece, Pye, Valiant and Worthy.

I won't tell you what we're getting for now so it doesn't influence suggestions!

We met a little Dachshund called Einstein in the woods today. As is the way, it was being a little monkey and it was all we heard for half a mile when we lost them Grin

Our boy puppy is about to be called Zebo

after an Irish rugby player who is apparently very fast and very cool! My DH is very into rugby and we all love this name

musicposy · 10/08/2013 23:46

Our first dog as a child was Mungo, after Mary, Mungo and Midge (other children of 60s will remember this)
Our next dog was Nimrod, which means great hunter, I believe. It was very apt! We always called him Nimmy which cut him down to size a little!

Current dog is Budgen. DD1 named him as a small child after Budgie the Little Helicopter, thinking that was Budgen. It's a bit of an embarrassing name, really, but we've had him 11 years so are used to it now.

Lonecatwithkitten · 11/08/2013 14:11

Current dog is called Fetlar.

Fetlar is a Shetland Island. All Shetland names make brilliant dog names Nossa, Bussa, Bressa to name a few.

I had to laugh at 2 doors down's dog - Murdoch. As in, NOTW Murdoch's and most tabloids. I had a little chuckle. I guess it's kind of fitting for a dog though :)

PipkinsPal · 12/08/2013 22:08

Twinkle for a girl. I once met a dachshund called Sausage. I'd love a dachshund and I would either call him Otto or Herman.

SixtyFootDoll · 12/08/2013 22:09

Other unusual ones are Josiah, Hashtag, Freud, Battenburg, Dodger... I know lots but my job is working with dogs so trying to wrack my brain for the best!!

I know of a Husky named Tundra, which I love. Our old husky cross was named Quinn (from Quinn the Eskimo (Mighty Quinn)). I also knew two mini schnauzers called Hovis and Hartley (Brit ex-pat!).

GooseEnthusiast, we have a Mieke which we pronouce Me-kah. Exceptionally popular dog name here (Canada). As is Bailey.

We also at one point had a Luke and a Leia.

Aquelven · 15/08/2013 18:27

We had a Gorse & Moss too, along with a Fern, Willow, Bracken,Bramble,Folly & Angus McCoatUp. All Cairns.

GetYourMoneyBackAtTheDoor · 15/08/2013 20:29

Rupert is not terribly unusual is it? DH wants rupert. It's sweet, lots of nickname potential but not very memorable. Think I'd be disappointed if we went for it.

I'm thinking Bay, though also have Rafferty, Darwin and Ludo on my list (amongst others). Any thoughts?

OP posts:
topbannana · 16/08/2013 07:36

Rafferty is great though would he end up as Raff, and if so does it bother you?
I say this as the pup is Ghillie but is known as Gil. DH hates it is not so keen on it but its just a natural shortening and impossible to drop now :o
I also like Darwin and Ludo so was not really any help to you after all :o
