Help me please! Vomiting pregnant dog am freaking out :-(

57 days pregnant and has just thrown up, a very large amount each time, twice, about 10 minutes apart.

She did manage to get into the bin earlier and eat 2 bags of that horrid onion salad you get with Indian curries so may be a factor but im quite worried seeing as she is is due labour any day and i haven't the first clue about any of it.

Onion can poison dogs, if shes still vomiting this morning id take her to the vet to be checked out.

She vomited once more but only a tiny bit of liquid came out, she then went to sleep for the night, when i hugged her about half an hour ago she was shaking for about minute then she stopped and now seems settled.

I do not have a vet and because i am on benefits i can only access the PDSA whose phone lines are closed now being a Sunday.
I don,t know who i can contact if she does go into labour today and something goes wrong the only vets round here is a small animals clinic and i do not have access to a car or money for a taxi to take her to the pdsa animal hospital which is quite a way away.

onion is very poisonous to dogs, this may not be labour - your dog needs help now.

call out of hours, explain situation re PDSA, do not sit and wait.

They do not have an emergency number i can call i have no idea who i should be contacting? She is fine now and sleeping normally and has had breakfast and a lot of water since she was sick last night. I felt a puppy kick 5 minutes ago.

Google out of hours vets in your area, or try the vet phone number and they should have a recorded message with the number for emergencies.

You can then get advice over the phone at least.

Is she insured? some policies have an emergency contact like NHS Direct, included in your policy (think it was More Than who did this when o had a policy)

I have no insurance had the dog not long ago and unexpectedly sort of a rescue.

I am on hold with a local vet who has an emergency advice line she is speaking to vet now to access situation.

How on earth have you managed to end up with a pregnant bitch without a regular vet or the money to pay for one? Your dog needs to be seen if shes had that much onion, the internet reckons symptoms can take a couple of days to establish

I hope your dog's okay, OP. Good to see your getting help for her. Fingers crossed she's fine.

I am wondering how you are going to afford to get her spayed after this litter to stop this happening again?

And what's happening with the pups? Do you have a rescue willing to take them in so that they don't start this cycle all over again?

Ok so the poison advice is to make your dog throw up which she has already done number of times last night and to drink a lot of water, She never has much interest in water so i asked the vet if i could give her milk to ensure she flushes out her system properly which he said was a good idea as the calcium will be beneficial for puppies too.

They said no need to bring her in as she has expelled the food and is flushing system. She may have a little diarrhoea and stomach ache today but that is it.

Saint: I did not know she was pregnant until about 2/3 weeks ago when she suddenly ballooned and i did not realise i had to be able to afford an emergency vet visit even though she was healthy before i helped a dog not be hurt and gave her a safe home i do apologise for currently being on benefits and struggling with added money going to council for bedroom tax how selfish of me to actually come on here and ask for advice and then take said advice instead of just ignoring it and obviously neglecting the dog i cant afford for the moment due to being in financial trouble Angry

Hmm.. Okay, we will go with the vets idea for now.

Don't give too much milk, though.

Do you have a credit card, or anyone you can ask who does, for when she goes into labour? Have you spoken to the PdSA about it? It can be expensive, and some charities won't pay for labour issues.

What breed is she? Do you know what she's been bred with? Has she been scanned to see how many puppies she has? Is she a first time mum?

I'm trying to work out the likelihood of issues, without seeing her, to see if there's anything helpful I can suggest.

Dooin the PDSA will spay for for a donation fee once she has had the litter which was actually planned for about 6 weeks ago but my son came down ill and had to cancel the appointment to register her as i spent taxi and donation money on trip to walk in centre and subsequently hospital and back which was an unexpected outgoing but unavoidable. By the time i had saved up some money to rebook and pay taxi fair and sum that was not insulting i was informed that she had been mated while i was not here by my bothers dog who was visiting with him which i did not think could happen as she had just appeared to finis her season and had not bled for 4 days prior obviously i was wrong and should have kept her away but it was an honest mistake

No-one was having a go OP, it was a genuine question.

Let me know if you need any help sorting out the pup's. I have access to a homecheckers network and rescue contacts who will help.

It's all just big one mess i am not educated about owning a dog at all, i have been tying to learn and get everything in place for her, looking up insurance, contacting pdsa to register ect but she has only been with us for about 6 months and so far everything that could go wrong with housing,kids,relationship and health for me have gone wrong so she has kind of taken a back seat to other issues which has come back to kick me in the teeth now she is due to give birth.

That is unfair Korma i cant even afford the taxi fair to a hospital right now if god forbid my kids needed it does that mean i should give them up too? If she needs a c section then i will have to have her treated in an emergency and owe the money to the vets and pay it off with a loan or over time there is a way around these things it is simply that the pdsa cannot be contacted today for me to know my options.

When i agreed to the dog i was not in this much financial trouble and like i said already had plans to register with pdsa and sort out insurance ect it came on very suddenly and by then my kids had bonded and giving up the dog would have been heartbreaking for them.

Do you not think i know i cant really afford the dog right now? But i am not willing to give up a member of this family when it will not stay like this for long it is simply a difficult time right now, if i gave something up every time i struggled i wouldn't have any bloody kids right now either.

I'm sure there is a scheme that will spade your dog for free if you are on benefits? Is there a blue cross near you op? Have a look as they are free for anyone on benefits I think.

Dreams yes the PDSA is what caters to those on benefits here but they ask for a donation. She is going there after the litter to ensure that this cannot happen again.

Do you have a good relationship with your vets? Some of my family cannot afford vet fees. Our vet is happy to treat their pets on the understanding that the fees will be paid at the earliest possible time. It's an arrangement I made with them because we've always used that vets and they know I will pay, if my family cannot.

Which insurance companies have you looked at? Some are far cheaper than others. One of my dogs costs £35 per month, the other £6 a month with different companies.
