Hey all,

Picking a name for our soon to arrive dog is proving harder than naming children.
He will be a working dog so will need a short snappy name.
As he's and English springer it's traditionally English old man names we're looking at.

Suggestions so far...

Ted
Alf
Freddie
Shay

What do you think? Please inspire me.

Bill
Geoff
Frank
Jack

tuckingfits · 19/04/2013 15:49

Jerry... Our's is called Harris which I appreciate isn't what you're looking for but is short & snappy.

DreamySleepyNightySnoozySnooze · 19/04/2013 15:53

Bert (or Bertie?)

Our working springer is called Alf. Grin

Moominsarehippos · 19/04/2013 15:53

Basil. Snappy if you yell it like Sybil!

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 19/04/2013 15:53

Ours is called Bounce. I know, I know, I didn't choose it, DS did. To Mind you, he's a cut and shut - half springer, half lab.

I like Freddie. Someone told me dogs should have 2 syllable names, though I'm not sure why ... Hmm

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 19/04/2013 15:54

We had a Springer called Zebedee, he was very springy and would bounce on the spot so it was a very appropriate name

Our currently Springer is called Ozzie as it relates to his registered Kennel Club Name

I think I shall call my next one Scooch, just because I like the sound of that name!

Not keen on Shay and we had a family friend called Alf so I couldn't use that
Quite like Ted
The name Brian as a dogs name always makes me laugh
How about
Dylan
Bert
Dave?

I almost called mine Jerry but thought that was too cruel Grin
Mine is a working Springer too
He is mad, although he is fast asleep at the moment, However if I was to get up and start to move towards the door he would be there before me!

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 19/04/2013 15:54

Basil's good. I like Basil. My friend had a basset called Basil when we were growing up. He suited his name perfectly.

Moominsarehippos · 19/04/2013 15:56

Bruce Springer (geddit?)

Slipshodsibyl · 19/04/2013 15:58

Pippin

LadyTurmoil · 19/04/2013 16:20

Stanley, Ernie, Eric, Harvey, Harry, Sarge, Sage, Chester, Henry, Barney, Mickey

LadyTurmoil · 19/04/2013 17:13

... Walter, Perry, Hunter, Seamus, Oliver, Brody, Casper, Zeke, Douglas, Jonah, Billy, Gunner, Griffin, Abel, Ezra, Garrett, Lennon, Ringo, Saul, Tristan. Gone a bit overboard, haven't I?! But boys names are so much easier than girls somehow.

Pascha · 19/04/2013 17:17

Seth
Fergus
Dan
Zeke
Geronimo

cocolepew · 19/04/2013 17:32

outtolunchagain · 19/04/2013 17:52

fanoftheinvisibleman · 19/04/2013 18:24

Vincent (Vinnie)
Ronnie
Dh wanted to call our dog Geoff!

topbannana · 19/04/2013 23:36

Ooh, we pick our working cocker up in 8 days and have also spent MANY hours deliberating on names.
Personally I love Ned or Ted but we use "bed" as a command so I am devastated know that it won't work as a name :(
How about Pip? DS was hankering after Reg (!) which we vetoed :)
Scott
Hugo
Leo

We work ours too and I like names like Scott, that can be Scottie in the house and a short and sharp Scott when working. As it is our new boy will be Ghillie :)

susiedaisy · 19/04/2013 23:39

Toby

SillyTilly123 · 20/04/2013 08:44

Bob.

TiggerWearsATriteSmile · 21/04/2013 10:39

Brilliant suggestions there all. I'm actually laughing away to myself here.

I have to wait and see him I think too.

Thanks again, I'll let ye know the outcome.

We know a springer called Turbo, and knew one years ago called Zeppy.

queenebay · 21/04/2013 16:56

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 21/04/2013 16:59

Our Springer is Storm

The shortlist included

Jed
Blue (would have been totally wrong for him though)
Red

And I quite fancied Keith (Moon the Loon)

mumtolilh · 27/04/2013 22:30
