Do you take your dogs collar off indoors?

I usually just leave Tillys on but wondering what others do?

It only comes off overnight once a month when I put his Advocate on.

At bedtime. She has to be undressed for bed. Never allowed outside even in our enclosed garden without it on though.

Yes because otherwise DS3 try's to swing from it! (We don't let him of course!)

Mine never wears a collar. He has a body harness when out.

yes once we are all in we take it off - only when we go out or if we go to work and he is on his own do we put it on.

I leave my boys on unless he's been up the farm and had it off for working.

Yep - my girl's collar is always on. Unless she's rolled in something and needs a bath, but luckily that hasn't happened in years.

Mine wears a harness rather than a collar so it comes off after last walk

Collars are always on here. As a rescue volunteer, I have heard about countless cases where supposedly safe/secure houses weren't, either due to burglars Sad, or doors being left open, tradesmen working in the house, children forgetting, gaps in hedges not being spotted till too late etc.

my puppy takes the other ones off and she (older dog) is never very happy about it Hmm Confused
but why would you take it off? I never have tbh

No for same reasons as Scuttle. Not woeth the risk.

Also, if they are picked up straying with no ID tag you can be prosecuted as it's a criminal offence not to tag your dog. This happened to a trainee solicitor recently.

My old lab, yes. As even with the gate open the fittest she would go is to sit on my neighbours garden, and she had developed a skin complaint. But she had it on 24/7 if we went away.

Current lab. It's on all the time to ensure she is tagged all the time.

When our old girl was still alive it stayed on, except for baths.

It was often the only thing to hold on to when she wanted to make friends at the door, and she was a big dog.

Our dog rarely has a collar on at all. Only if we are staying at someone else's house!

It took me weeks to get our new puppy to accept a collar - she hated anything round her neck and used to get really frightened. Even now at 6 months she doesn't like you fiddling with it, and is still a bit scared of the lead being clipped on.

Collie - overthinking it - too clever by half.

2 of mine only have collars on when they are walked.

MonsterDog and Huskygirl were playing and Monster's tooth got caught in the Husky's collar. By the time we saw them, and then ran back into the house to get scissors (couldn't undo clip as it was so tight) Huskygirl was nearly strangled. It was so bad, that the next day her eye and side of her face had swollen up.

We leave Monsterdogs off as HuskyGirl removes it for him and then chews it to death.

Our other dog will kill the Husky if ever given the chance so her collar is on permanently, but she never plays with the others so there is very little chance of hers getting caught on anything.

Only on the rare occasion he has a bath. When he's almost certainly rolled in something so disgusting that the collar needs a good scrub too.

Always keep her collar on because I have a spaniel who is an escape artist and:
The Control of Dogs Order 1992 mandates that any dog in a public place must wear a collar with the name and address of the owner engraved or written on it, or engraved on a tag. Your postcode is optional (but we would strongly advise that you include it), and your telephone number is also optional (but advisable).

You can be fined up to £5,000 if your dog does not wear an identification tag.

We used to leave girl pup's on all the time but then we got boy pup- and he delights in dragging her 'round by her collar so we take them off. Partly to save her being strangled and partly to save buying a new collar every month!

I keep them on with my current dogs, and will do the same with my soon to be new dog. If they managed to escape, a door was left open, or maybe so eone came in and left the door wide open for a tiny but too long and they for some reason bolt out, or whatever, I want them to be able to be identified and returned.
