Do you take your dogs collar off indoors?

I usually just leave Tillys on but wondering what others do?

Nope, Jas wears his at all times. Even when in the bath.

It depends on the dog(s) I have at the time. Dogs likely to play fight enthusiastically have them taken off when they are not supervised, in case they get tangled in each other's collars. I prefer leaving them on, for reasons already stated, but will remove them for safety or training reasons. They always wear them looser than normal in the house.

He has a walk collar (that we don't mind getting wet) and a nicer house collar which he wears all the time (apart from walks and bathtime until he's dry).

I like the early warning system of the collar. When the dog is mooching, his tag clinks gently against the ring on his collar and I can work out roughly where he is and what he's up to. The thought of him having stealth on his side....

Definitely off so I can scratch his neck & ears without that really bloody irritating rattle of his I.D discs Grin

Lab used to keep collar it on all the time until we discovered it was stinky. We thought it was the dog that smelled but it was just the collar.
He always goes for a swim in the river on walks and the muddy dampness round his neck had been festering and ponging for ages. So now he's collarless in the house, it gets taken off and washed when we get in and his neck has a chance to dry off.

Dog used to have walking harness only. Got a fright and ran away one time and we had to pay a fortune to get him back from the vet that the police gave him to! Now wears collar and tag.

Only phone numbers on tag!

I will do occasionally but always off at night.

Pretty fabric house collar NEVER comes off unless dog is being bathed etc. It carries a nice durable ID tag with the following engraved on it:-

CHIPPED
postcode House No
phone no

Live in a well dodgy part of London, (naice dogs get used as bait for dog fighters) and love my dog, so need to the mental reassurance that if she ever did get out her chances of survival are at their very best.

We use a martingale for walks near as she's a whippet. (Capability to run like a bullet out of a gun with a narrow head).

I did use to have my name on her id tag but took it off under professional advice. The exact word choice for the engraving is on the advice of the Dogs Trust and local police after one of their events for local dog owners last summer. Her house collar is as comfy as can be.

sadly dogs escape during burglaries, so even if you think your home is secure - is it worth the risk? This has happened to a couple of friends of mine over the years. Only one got her dog back - it was the one found wandering a few miles away with a collar and tag on. The finder rang her, and I duly noted the lesson.

She only wears her collar when we go out. Mainly because she's got a fat neck and a skinny head and so takes it straight off as it annoys her. It's only on for ID when we are walking. She has a harness for control and is microchipped just in case.

Ohhh, I'm feeling terrible now. My year old papillon has always hated a collar. Given her tiny neck I always preferred walking her with a harness, plus the breeder told us not to leave a collar on in the house as it would rub away her fur (paps have very fine hair, and she's growing a lovely fluffy ruff). She is microchipped, but on walks only wears her harness with no tag, and nothing at home.

I've had vague unease that she should be tagged when out, so now motivated to get one. Would it be okay to just attach one to her harness when out? Worth getting her used to a collar too to wear on walks at least ? If she wore one constantly, would it damage her coat?

My dog hates it without her collar, she will actively try to put her head in the collar if we "accidently " on purpose take it off .
Plus she is out the door chasing cats at every opportunity
