We got our lab about a month ago, he's 7. He is so great, I have to boast somewhere!

The other morning I was faffing about before feeding him, and he asked to be fed. I don't know how to explain but he came to me and just his body language and the way he was looking at me, it was really clear he was asking me to follow him. I got up and followed him and he walked to where his food is kept and looked at me then the food etc. I just think this is so clever, he was communicating with me and doing a really good job of it, the message was so clear.

He has learnt to walk really nicely on the lead now and has improved massively with his reaction to cats (still needs work on that though).He does commands really well too (sit, paw, beg etc). He is such a great dog and I'm so proud, I love him loads!

Great a stealth boasting dog thread! Mine knows so many words and I mean really knows them. She does that cocking her head to one side as if she is listening intently. Just love her to bits.

That's fantastic!

Okay, my boast. Yesterday DH put some meat on a plate for a snack, then left it on the arm of the sofa for a moment. We came back in the room to find Dog2 sitting staring at it from a couple of inches away, but he never tried to eat it, just sat there hopefully. (Of course he was immediately given some as a reward for not scarfing the lot!).

GingerDog will fetch a box of tissues if you fake sneeze, can be shot dead with an imaginary gun and does a rather fetching "high five" (or "bonjour" when holidaying! :o)
He is also a reasonably good gundog.
There have been points in my life where I have had way too much time on my hands :o

Thanks all. :-) Turmoil he was rehomed from a family who just didn't have time for him (working full time, no exersize etc).

Sherbert, there's no stealth about this one, haha! DoggieCoxhard definitely knows 'walk'. When you say it, even in conversation, he gets excited.

Redwing how fab! Dh and dd have both lost meals that way. when will they learn...

Anyone who knows him will agree that this is quite an achievement.

Ahh your dog sounds lovely.

I don't need a second invite to boast about my dog, he's great! He is a 6 month old scruffy looking furry gremlin faced Border Terrier and he is just so much fun. Walking him up the wood today I can't help but smile at how happy and waggy he is.

He loves clicker training and learnt sit, down, stay, leave, paw, beg, spin, roll and talk in 2 or 3 attempts each. I just need more imagination to think of what to do next!

Though my next project is recall with distractions

Mine's a BT too with a scruffy furry face. Obsessed by food which make training and recall quite easy, especially now she is older.

Haha! We have to work on recall too. In a big open park it's not good at all. He is great with the kids though, ds is 6 months and has run over and into him with his walker, and likes to stroke his face, but sometimes grabs. He doesn't mind at all, he'll sit there or move out the way, he loves to lick his face too! Dd is 3 and scared of most dogs, but loved WellardDog instantly and is really confident with him. She tells him come, sit, leave etc and he does. :-)

Oh and fan, what about jumping an obstacle course? We set one up in the house and she loves going over and under. Can jump higher than the dining table.

That is a good idea sherbert and something ds would love too. It most be like an obstacle course sometimes mind when he is chasing his own toys around amongst ds's stuff!

Unfortunately mine is a little 'meh' with food. The only thing that interested him slightly was sausage but that upset his rather delicate tummy. At puppy class he wouldn't even touch the chicken and cheese I used to take. I have never found a food item that can match a dog or new person to throw yourself at for excitement value.

Reliable recall will be interesting! I have ordered the book Total Recall and a 30ft lead to use as a trailing line as recomended at puppy class so we'll see. He is worse in the open too. I always joke that I walk in woods like a lead ninja ready to clup him on at the slightest hint of movement spotted!

Mine waits on the mat when churning up the grass, i mean comes in from the garden, and has her paws wiped.
If we dont count 1,2,3,4 then she waits until we do it again, anything for a biscuit

Great positive thread, may I join? What amazing stories of fab dogs! Well done Mike for starting the thread.

Puppy is 16 week old Springer and has been a dream. Crate trained, placid, house trained in a week, loves training, lovely manners - not too 'in your face' with humans or dogs.

All this given he had a terrible start in life - he was from A Breeder!! .

I am especially proud of the fact that, from 12 weeks, you could ask him to go 'down' then place a piece of liver on each paw and ask him to wait, which he will do (quivering slightly and staring intently) till you tell him he can eat it. Also, yesterday, the doorbell went, he stopped at the kitchen door when I asked him, sat and waited when I asked him, then came for a fuss when I asked him, star.

His other attribute is he is fab with other dogs, he must give off the correct signals to them (ie 'I am a wuss' don't worry about me'!). Even my friends resuce GSD who barks incessantly and puts off most dogs (it's early days for her) responds to him as he keeps gently asking to play but ignoring her over enthusiasm and barking, other have less patience or are nervous. he does all the circling, laying down, looking away etc etc.

Of course he jumps up a bit and pulls on the lead and ignores me too but he is a wonderful work in progress going in the right direction and we love him.

And for DH, who has mental health issues, he has been marvellous

my hound will never be a high acheiver but i am proud of her, history she is a coonhound cross who is about 8 years old, till last year when she was dumped outside a rescue in cyprus she was a puppy farm breeding bitch, so probably never had any real love and she has definitely been beaten, she has a scar on one shoulder and boobs that have seen a lot of puppies feeding off her,

boast bit i took her on sight unseen so far she has handled, the flight from cyprus, trip from heathrow to halifax, meeting four very bolshy this is our house cats, several grandchildren and so far has not snapped at any one of them, she is sweet natured and has fitted in with our house very well.

oh oh

my dog will come and find me wherever I am in the house and stare at me, then tap me on the knee if I ignore her, then go to the door and back until I follow, then lead me to wherever someone has left some food and flick her eyes at it and then at me as if to say, "Look! Food on its own, no one wants it, give it to me."

She also does High Fives

I used to feed my 2 Westies and a Lhasa Apso every day at 4pm. If I was late, she would rattle it and call once, if I ignored it, soon she would call twice and a bit louder, ignored it again and it would be 3 calls in a more insistant tone. The Westies just waited to see what I did.

Worral the MN pup has just learned that visitors can be nice and give you bacon rather than bolting and growling at the sight of a new person. A huge breakthrough and just as we'll, it was costing a fortune to pay local teenagers to pop in
