We got our lab about a month ago, he's 7. He is so great, I have to boast somewhere!

The other morning I was faffing about before feeding him, and he asked to be fed. I don't know how to explain but he came to me and just his body language and the way he was looking at me, it was really clear he was asking me to follow him. I got up and followed him and he walked to where his food is kept and looked at me then the food etc. I just think this is so clever, he was communicating with me and doing a really good job of it, the message was so clear.

He has learnt to walk really nicely on the lead now and has improved massively with his reaction to cats (still needs work on that though).He does commands really well too (sit, paw, beg etc). He is such a great dog and I'm so proud, I love him loads!

Puppy was freaking awesome at training today, he is so calm and good and responsive. Helps that he knows all his commands anyway!!!

Trainer thinks we could do all our KC training in a year easily!!!

When dustydog wants to be let out in the evening he gets off his cushion and sits directly between the sofa and the TV giving us a Paddington Bear hard stare until we do as requested.

In conversation he picks up on the word seaside even though we only go a few times a year.

My 13 week old pup is doing really really well at not reacting to passerby, joggers, cyclists etc. (having been a total maniac at first - normal pup behaviour). Her loose lead walking is also coming along well she trots along looking up at me adoringly with the cue "good walking".

We have had some lovely off-lead time this last week which I did not knowing that its recommended. Now have Pippa Mattinson's "Total Recall" and am going to make it my goal to get that girl a rock solid recall that will make going out with her a joy.

This is ignoring the other times when she is going mad nipping my legs, her paws wrapped around my Uggs and tearing shreds out of my coat. Not sure what to do about that. I KNOW I'm not supposed to react, ignore her/ look to the Sky etc. but it's bloody sore. Hmmm.

Thanks to the wisdom of doggy types on MN who told me about whistles and high value treats, my nearly 2 year old is now a complete pleasure to walk off the lead.

JAY DOG HAS STOPPED BITING SLEEVES ARMS LEGS AND WHATEVER ELSE HE COULD GET HIS TEETH ON he has calmed down so much and is settled and laid back he is a fab little dog now he is routine driven though he didnt cope very well last week dd was off school but he still wanted up at 7'15 but I cant believe how far he has come since we got him in october I thought he was a lost cause and would need to go back ,

I have the best boast ever...
When dcs were 1&3, we were out walking. At the end I put the double buggy by the boot of the car while I put away wellies etc. My lovely dog - a big lab- was sitting by the kiddos when suddenly a dog came out of nowhere, all teeth and jaws and went for the Dcs - sitting target as they were both strapped in. Indie, my dog, in one movement pinned it to the ground by its neck, and held it there. Didn't bite it, just held it. Totally protected her babies! For a couple of years after that, whenever we were walking, if we met other dogs, she would run round dcs in a circle marking her territory and no dog would ever cross her boundary.

I watched Life of Dogs last night. Awful load of dumbed down ITV nonsense - but amongst the "really? Dogs have a really good sense of smell??" moments there were some interesting facts and inspiring stories.

We have a 7yr old GSD mix rescue dog.

We´ve had him a couple of years.

He´s FANTASTIC!

He adores my teenage daughter-thank goodness!

He has also been really quick to learn.

Although often when daughter is wanting him to do a particular trick for a treat, he´ll go through his repertoire & then just try to take it from her!

we used distraction with him and we also said no and walked into his space he didnt like that , he is also a bit older so not a puppy anymore the previous owners gave him up at the crucial puppy stage and it did go on for a while, there is a thread somewhere or start your own people will help you, we also took himt o the dog trust behaviourist who was fantastic

My dog runs to me if the baby wakes up and I'm in a different room. He then turns around and leads me to the baby.

Awww! Bamboozled that really is the best boast ever! Isandri that is so sweet too. Wellard loves babymike. Babymike goes up to him in his walker for a stroke and/or face grab, and wellard just takes it and licks his face! Went offlead with about 6 other dogs today (met up with a friend who is a dog walker) and wellard did me so proud. He was like one of the pack from the off, had a great time, and his recall was fab. :D
