Pointy hounds include-
Greyhounds (Grunds)
Whippets (Whippys)
Lurchers
Italian Greyhounds (Iggys)
Salukis
Afghans
And any others I have forgotten. If you are a new pointy hound owner, an old and experienced owner or looking into getting one of these fabulous creatures, come and have a seat (that's not taken up with a hound).

I didn?t really want you,
I wasn?t really sure,
And I?ll admit I had my doubts,
When you first came through that door.

Not small, or cute, or fluffy,
With big, soft puppy eyes,
But tall, and thin, and bony,
With bald, pink, bulging thighs.

You weren?t the kind I had in mind,
Not in any way,
?Perhaps it would be better if I took you back today,
Before we know each other,
It really won?t be kind,
To keep you here for one more day,
And then to change my mind.?

But against my better judgement, I decided you could stay,
And quickly I discovered you were kind in every way,
Your gentleness and patience, they really stole the show,
?Why these dogs are wonderful, I must let others know!?

For you?re my gentle giant,
Who just needed the chance,
To show us all what you could be,
To wipe away that history,
And dispel our preconceptions, which put us all to shame,
And so we come to know and love,
What lies beneath that frame.

And now I?ve come to understand,
What I missed right at the start,
That greyhounds need that great deep chest,
To house their great big hearts!

Love the photo, MrS.

Of course, having said that Whippy's are none too bright, ours is Einstein in comparison to Jessie. Though I think she probably spends a lot of time standing looking vacant whilst she is solving difficult problems in calculus (aka the style of Terry Pratchett's camels, otherwise known as the greatest mathematicians in the world).

MissBetseyTrotwood · 17/04/2013 20:32

Love that photo Mr S!

TheCunnyFunt · 17/04/2013 22:01

Great photo MrS, the little fluff ball just looks like a rather useful and snuggly cushion :o he pooed on the ex fox? Odd dog Confused

Lock I just want to give poor Sam a cuddle, he sounds so much like me (bar the rolling in fox poo, I wouldn't want to mess my hair up!) :o

Well it's an early night for me tonight, got travelling tomorrow! My mum is picking me up at 8.20am and taking me to the big city to the train station for 10. The first train is at 10.23. Hoping I actually make it to Wales and don't end up in bloody France or something! My stuff is all packed bar a few necessaries that'll be packed in the morning, my Kindle is fully charged and I have snacks in my hand bag :o wish me luck, I'll need it!

MagratGarlik · 17/04/2013 22:18

Have a fab time, Cunny. I'm sure you will.

The photo reminds me of going on holiday last year with the in-laws and their mini dachshund. Said little dog proceeded to steal toys from the pointy ones and act like a little princess and boss of them all. The pointys were to thick to realize they didn't have to be bossed by the little wire-haired one.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 17/04/2013 22:22

We'll have to see photos of this awesome meet up Cunny!

Still think we should all plot to go to some Great Greyhound meet somewhere as a MN delegation!

MagratGarlik · 17/04/2013 22:38

That would be great. I discussed with mistlethrush once too that Scuttle should make a special MN bandana for the pointys, so MN pointys can identify each other.

TheCunnyFunt · 17/04/2013 23:30

Love the idea of MN bandanas! They could be a special pattern that's only available to MNers with Pointies! The MN scarf, but for dogs :o

mistlethrush · 18/04/2013 09:06

MN bandana - now that really would make DH's eye's roll!!! (And it might interfere with the collar porn too) (Grin)

Photos of the meet are essential. I hope you've remebered your passport though.

Mistlehound smells awful. She rolled when out with the dog walker - who washed her off twice, but ended up putting talc on her neck. So she doesn't smell all nice or all stinky she smells of someone else's talc (which I don't like at the best of times).

Scuttlebutter · 18/04/2013 09:25

I think the idea of the MN bandana is BRILLIANT.

Thank you, Magrat and Mistle! Watch this space - I will work on this. There is already a bandana for "Hounds of Twitter" as a surprising amount of pointies have their own Twitter accounts, so wear them when they are at shows, gatherings etc so their adoring public can recognise them.

There will be lots of photos, Mistle. Grin We have a new camera so Cunny will be the perfect victimmodel.

UUUrrgh at the talc. Yuk.

Little Callie has just dashed off to the vet with DH. She has what looks like a cut on her paw, but it's sore and a bit swollen, so think she might need ABs or there may even be something in the wound. Out of all four hounds, she is the drama queen - shrieks the place down when she goes for her vaxes, and will make the most pitiful squeals if one of the others even dares to bump into her. Hmm Fortunately our vet is absolutely wonderful and is very tolerant of her diva tendancies. The other three are sulking at home because of course this would normally be dog walking time.

TheCunnyFunt · 18/04/2013 10:10

Sat on the platform waiting for train number 1, I'm even wearing my MN scarf :o

No I left my passport at home! Really hope I don't end up in France now Shock

mistlethrush · 18/04/2013 10:20

If you end up in France your compass is seriously faulty Cunny.

Its going to be interesting getting the design of the bandana right so that it will suit all coat colourings. We have to be quite careful on collars - black with a little gold works well. Surprisingly, black with a bit of red just doesn't work.

TheCunnyFunt · 18/04/2013 12:59

Compass? What's a compass? Confused

:o

MagratGarlik · 18/04/2013 13:17

Reached Calais yet, Cunny?

TheCunnyFunt · 18/04/2013 17:47

Thankfully no, I have however, reached Scuttle's sofa :) I'm sat here now, with Norty Minx and Callie snoozing on the floor. I have yet to experience the horrific farts though :o

MagratGarlik · 18/04/2013 20:12

That's good then. Have fun!

MissBetseyTrotwood · 18/04/2013 20:23

Yay!

mistlethrush · 18/04/2013 21:40

mistlehound has her rear end towards the back of the sofa, propping her back up against the arm of the sofa... Which means that her head has nothing to support it so is hanging down as only a pointy hound's head can....

Scuttlebutter · 19/04/2013 00:15

Cunny's big adventure in Wales is going great so far. Mick is normally very wary of people he doesn't know, and tends to glare at them a lot. However, he met Cunny at the station, walked up, demanded a cuddle and is now her new best friend. In fact, we've been watching the Hobbit this evening, and he's been mugging her for cuddles all night. Really lovely to see and she obviously has the "pointy touch". Smile

MagratGarlik · 19/04/2013 00:19

Awwww. That's lovely. DP has the same touch - dogs seem to gravitate towards him.

TheCunnyFunt · 19/04/2013 12:34

Has anyone read this? I was nearly crying with laughter at the kittens stuck to the fridge! :o

The Welsh odyssey is going great so far! Me and Mick are getting on really well, yesterday he'd waft his head toward me for tickles, today he has progressed to gentle nudging :) I was really surprised last night because Scuttle told me he was usually wary of new people. He's hasn't acted wary of me at all apart from a small growl yesterday when I was loitering suspiciously in the hall :o

MagratGarlik · 19/04/2013 19:08

Oh dear, Dp has just pointed out some lovely whippet x Bedlington x greyhound puppies which are at our local greyhound rescue, with a plead of, "please. We can fit in another one". No - really, we can't!!!

MagratGarlik · 19/04/2013 19:29

These ones tiagreyhounds.org/puppies-2/

Aren't they adorable?

mistlethrush · 19/04/2013 20:58

From everything I know of Bedlington xs and collie xs those have the potential to be a real handful.

Oh... and you wouldn't be able to take them racing either...

MagratGarlik · 19/04/2013 21:15

Oh yes, I have no doubt they would be a handful and I wouldn't want the hassle of a pup and young dc's tbh, but they are so cute.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 19/04/2013 23:31

This time next week we'll have Billy and Roxy with us. I shall want to bath them both immediately to get the grim smell of kennels off them and and to start to sort out her kennel coat. Will bathing her on her first night be too much? It will be, won't it...

Those pups are cuuuute. My friend has a 3 legged Bedlington who's adorable and yes, is a handful even on 3 legs.

I like the sound of Mick. What a gent.
