I had my name down with a breeder for a boy in August but she only had bitches and two boys in litter, I was 3rd on waiting list....Then I was waiting on a breeder who had had a pup returned after a few weeks as the owners 'could not commit' Confused, I mean wtf! Then after waiting a few weeks she decided pup would need an experienced owner. Ihave spent al my time since trawling rescue sites and applying for dogs that I want without success and looking for a new breeder with a pup ready NOW. It is totally exasperating. A breeder in Lewes had a liter with no yellow dogs. it is totally pissing me off tbh. I can see why people (of lesser characther Wink) resort to byb's and unethical breeders! I won;tdo that obvs but I am frustrated! Rant over

ok. I'm back home now. let me just clear a few things up. When I started the thraed I was clearly feeling frustrated. I have been considering a dog for about 2 years. I wanted to wait until my youngest child was at full time shool so I could concentrate on housetraining, basic training etc whilst I was on my own during the week days for as long as it took. I researched dog breeds but always ended up favouring retrievers whatever the colour. We live smack bang inbetween the sea and the downs. Perfect for a lab (or spaniel) in my opinion. I have previous experience of a lab as we had one growing up,- she was perfect. My sister has had a goldie and a lab, my best friend has one. My dog of choice. I began looking for a golden retriever as they are my dream dog. As we were unsuccessful wtih our chosen breeder I began researching and looking at labs as golden ret breeders are not as plentiful and I wanted to get from a responsible breeder whatever the expense. As we had originally wanted a goldie it was a natural switch for us to look at yellow labs. When this became too narrow a search I started looking at rescues, breed specific and otherwise and opened my mind to other breeds. Ihave not been successful in my search thus far but am still open to a rescue dog even though my children would prefer a pup. I am not under any misconception that the puppyhood stage is easy, or cute or that I will be bringing a perfect, housetrained fluffball into our house in the form of an Andrex puppy. So, for those who have assumed I want a dog and I want it NOW, that is the case because I have been looking, researching and contacting breeders/rescue centres forthe best part of a year now. I would think it is quite acceptable for me to feel frustrated especially since the two breeders I had gone through have not resulted in us getting our much longed for dog

Ladyturmoil. Yes I have contacted DDR. they had a beautiful lab called Rosie who I called them about (she was BLACK btw) she was quite young but not a pup. They only rehome pups under 6 mths within a certain radius so it would be a dog over 6 months for us from there which is fine, to be perfectly honest, am qutie happy to skip the first few months if it brings us the right dog

Personally i would avoid Dorset Dog Rescue. They do not have a good reputation in the rescue world.

Have you tried all the lab rescues?

WTFwasthat · 22/10/2012 18:19

really? What's their reputation? I ahve been homechecked by Labrador Rescue South East who were great. They had a 2 year old lab but he was bonded to his sister and they needed to be rehomed together. I'm really not up for two labs!

Did you see the link to Porridge, that I posted earlier?

LadyTurmoil · 22/10/2012 20:17

rachmultiplemum Interested to know why DDR doesn't have a good reputation, are you able to say any more? Whistlingwaves I think they have volunteers in the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands who do homechecks but send them an email www.streetdogrescue.com/ or contact them through their FB page www.facebook.com/rudozemstreetdogrescue?fref=ts They are very nice, I donated a couple of times and got very sweet emails back from them. Adoption costs £250 to the UK

rachmultiplemum · 22/10/2012 20:29

Hello, obviously i have to be careful with what i say on line.

However i know of several rescues that have picked on the pieces of DDR rescues that have gone wrong and rescue back up from DDR doesn't exist. I know adopters that have adopted very ill dogs that have been in the vets within 24 hours and i also work with local dog trainers and vets that advise people to avoid them.

midori1999 · 22/10/2012 20:36

WTF if you are prepared to travel to Dorset I know of a very good Golden Retriever breeder, although, like most very good breeders she doesn't actually breed very often. I can give you her details if you like?

LadyTurmoil · 22/10/2012 20:38

Very interesting, thanks rachmultiplemum. It's a real minefield, isn't it, when even rescues are not always all that they seem! I would also not recommend Allsorts Rescue in Sussex from my limited knowledge of them. They seemed very willing to get a collie cross puppy adopted that I think had something wrong with it and it was returned to them after a week. They were so keen to get it adopted but the breed didn't really suit the family's lifestyle and they would have found that out with a few more questions. BTW, you said on another thread that you had 4 or was it 5 children, dogs, cats and other pets - admire you greatly for staying sane!

daisydotandgertie · 22/10/2012 20:53

And if you're still after a Male lab, I expect I would be able to point you in the direction of a few fabulously bred litters on the south coast (ish). PM if you want to.

None are yellow, but all will have the very best proper lab character and temperament.

rachmultiplemum · 22/10/2012 20:54

LadyTurmoil- the two rescues also work together, which you may find interesting...

I have 5 children, 3 of my own dogs, 1 foster pup, two cats and sheep :-)

I don't think i am sane anymore to be honest. :-)

WTFwasthat · 22/10/2012 20:59

thkn you all for your measured replies. they are much appreciated. i was beginning to feel like an ogre! LadyTurmoil, I have applied for about three of the Allsorts dogs wtihout sucess. THey had a gorgeous 7-8 month old lab on there and some cocker x pups who went in a heartbeat!

Midori - thank you for your message, I habve found some breeders closer to me but it would be great if you could pm me the name of your breeder. Is she with Champdogs?

rachmultiplemum - well done you! all those mouths to feeed and souls to take care of Smile

I have just filled in an app for him. thank you rachmultimum Smile

LadyTurmoil · 22/10/2012 21:53

WTF it must be very frustrating for you, I hope you have luck in the end. Whistlingwaves I'm sure that you will be considered for a dog even though you live in a flat. Someone said on one of the Romanian rescue sites that, compared to a dangerous life on the streets, a loving family promising a good home sounds like a very good deal! rachmultiplemum interesting info about the 2 rescues, you still sound like supermum to me! But no chickens, goats or a cow?!

rachmultiplemum · 22/10/2012 22:09

No :-( Husband won't let me.... mean mean man Smile To be honest sheep are pretty easy (well until lambing time) and i haven't got time for anything else at the moment, the rescue side of things is far too busy.

Floralnomad · 22/10/2012 22:18

Porridge looks gorgeous . I hope you get him WTF !

LadyTurmoil · 22/10/2012 22:33

Or how about Pasta? www.manytearsrescue.org/display_mtar_dog.php?id=5244 We'll expect you to keep us informed re. your search WTF - hope to hear good news soon!

Floralnomad · 22/10/2012 22:35

Ooh Pasta is gorgeous as well , how are such lovely puppies in rescue !

WTF What about Monday, take a look! She sounds great, not a pup but still young or you could choose one of her litter (although collie x labrador sounds very energetic) www.manytearsrescue.org/display_mtar_dog.php?id=303

LadyTurmoil · 22/10/2012 22:45

I suppose it's no surprise there are ones like this in rescue, after all you hear about puppy farms in Wales! Downside is that you can't see with parents, I guess you could get a vet to check them over before you adopt...

rachmultiplemum · 22/10/2012 22:46

They are both gorgeous :-)
