Do you kiss and cuddle your dog?

I often kiss and cuddle mine and am wondering whether they understand the affection or feel a bit like 'urgh, geroff!'

I have had 4 dogs over the years, 3 loved kisses and cuddles, one seem to find it very un dignified and embarrassing.

The one who likes it I do. I have one who I've since a tiny pup who adores being hugged, kissed, cuddled, carried, handled in any way possible.

My other likes attention when he wants it and will sit by you or on you when he wants fussing.

The third only likes his sides being petted and only if he and you are both standing

There was a good youtube video posted on here a while back that showed you how to spot if your dog likes being handled or not, many don't. Someone might come along and link it for you. I am very late, so can't right now

My ol' girl loved a cuddle. My ol' boy likes to be stroked down his front, and will sit and almost fall sideways as he kind of goes into a trance ! We have proper kisses from him, too. My ol' girl only very occassionally gave kisses, and only to me.

We have a young 'un who is very kissy and cuddly, with everyone. She's very soppy, and loving.

mine would just burst if she didnt get kisses & cuddles.....she was made for loving.

honestly. thats all cavalier king charles were made for! lap dogs. she is a lurve seeking missile....

I was only thinking this very same thing this morning as I was smothering my furry boy with cuddles before leaving for work. He loves snuggling on the sofa but I'm not sure he understands when I kiss him and tell him how much I love him DH thinks I've lost the plot...

I have a Doodle that wallops a paw on your face for attention.
The Staffy? I thought it was coded in their DNA to demand cuddles.
I think it was D0oin that described them as 4 stone lap dogs!

My young 'un also wallops you in the face, PersonalClown. I think she thinks she's stroking us !

Probably also my fault for teaching her to 'high 5'.

The older one in particular is very loving (read that as needy) and sulks if the younger one gets in first

Both of mine love a snuggle. makes me day having big snuggles with my babies. My DD is also a handy cuddle post when the dogs want to!

Ours have us very well trained. When nice tickles are being administered, and human slave stops for any reason, a paw will be waved regally (very much in the style of the Queen, waving at an adoring crowd). This is greyhound for "Serf, you may continue".

Greyhounds also do "the lean" and one in particular will quite happily sit on DH when he is ready for a fuss even though he weighs about 38kg and is enormous. Last night, I had one in bed with me - we had long cuddles before sleep, he was then wedged nicely against me while we slept and as soon as I'd made my coffee it was time for some morning snuggles.

We don't get the paw, Scuttle, we get barked at by the ol' boy !

The young 'un has learnt that dive bombing whoever is sitting on the sofa tends to work too.

I have a staffy and he has always loved cuddles!! In the morning he sits and waits for me to sit down then dives on my lap for cuddles and looks disgusted when I dare to get off the chair now he's getting older all he wants to do is cuddle on the sofa or bedtime and sleep

My staffy is currently glued to my side. He has to be touching weird dog. I wonder if it's the heat from the laptop or just close enough that if I move the lappy, he's close enough to sit on me before I get to move.

Yes. My dog will get up on the sofa, sit with his back against me and then recline across the laptop keyboard. He will then stare at me until I scratch his belly and rescue the laptop. He will often climb up on to my lap when he wants a fuss, and lays his head on DH's lap when he wants an ear scratch. He isn't a licky dog, but I kiss him on the head. DH looks at me like this Nothing better than a warm, furry friend to snuggle up to when there are no humans available :)

Our King Charles gives us no choice he lives for cuddles.

His best time of day is after dinner has been eaten,kids are in bed then he dive bombs the sofa for his cuddle up time. If I spend too long in the kitchen before this time he huffs at me and runs back and forth to the sofa until I relent it never fails to make me smile.

Both of mine do and Lucy apparently enjoys being tripped over too because her favourite place to snooze is right in front of the kitchen sink when I'm doing dishes or in front of the dishwasher when I'm loading it. Actually, I think she has a foot fetish because she likes to be on or near my feet all the time (she sleeps on them at night too). Our Westie likes being picked up and gloats because Lucy is now far too big to be lifted.

Mine licks when he knows its time for the park, or as a greeting when youve been out. He is a greyhound staff cross so a big ol dog but he loves sitting on peoples laps. I kiss and cuddle him all the time, so do the kids and dh. He never really imposes and will happily lay in his basket but is always up for some fussing.

Mine tries to kiss me but I do not reciprocate.

I will give him a cuddle though.

My Daisy Dog (staffie-dalmatian cross)wouldn't abide no cuddles/kisses and positively DEMANDS them

She is a very snuggly licky girl!

Absolutely, everyone in our family kisses our dog, on occassion our doggy gets too carried away and i have felt her teeth bash mine!
