Do you kiss and cuddle your dog?

I often kiss and cuddle mine and am wondering whether they understand the affection or feel a bit like 'urgh, geroff!'

one of my boxers is crossed with a mastiff and he's just the biggest, bestest, stillest, cuddler there is.

Also, when DH shouts 'postmans here' the pair of them go and wait by the front door for a cuddle and a fuss off the postie!

out2lunch I blew a raspberry on kitten cats head the other day and he nearly took my eye out....

out2lunch · 12/10/2012 20:35

ouch babes hmmmmm yes cats are a different matter

AlmostAHipster · 12/10/2012 20:46

I too have the Mumsnet Staffie Grin - he cries if he doesn't have constant cuddles which is lovely most of the time but very annoying when you're trying to paint the ceiling and he's halfway up the ladder!

I've never known such a needy animal - he's worse than my ex-husband!

gymmummy64 · 12/10/2012 21:03

YYY! My rescue dog showed me how it was going to be on his first night here. Jumped up next to me on the sofa, head in my lap eyes up looking at me - it was magical, would never have expected it.

We haven't looked back since, he is the most affectionate dog ever, will do anything for a good cuddle. We all kiss him, cuddle him and talk to him all the time.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 12/10/2012 21:08

Yes lots of cuddles.

She uses her paw as a hook to grab at my arm to fuss her. She'll also burrow her head under my arm so that my hand ends up stroking her.

She is the queen bitch of fuss and cuddles.

She thinks she's a lapdog. She's a staffy! Grin

Whats lovely is when we first got our rescue dog he was so unsure of affection. He didnt really know how to give or recieve it. Now hes coming on in leaps and bounds.

Blistory · 12/10/2012 22:04

My dog cuddles me - paw on either side of my neck and then she actually nuzzles into me. All 7 stone of her. Almost time for her to spoon me in bed which she does frequently.Smile

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 12/10/2012 22:14

Labrador. Nuff said. Grin

We have spent many a happy hour with him lying on next to me on the sofa having cuddles. I kiss him goodnight on the top of his head. He just likes being near us and will often wedge himself in between me and DH on the sofa of an evening to ensure maximum cuddlage from both sides. Tummy rubs also required. He does like to lay his head on a lap, knees or feet as he snoozes. He always, always comes to see me with a happy face and waggy tail when I come back into the room, even if I've only popped upstairs for five minutes. He's just a lovely, loving big black beastie and we adore him.

Gymbob · 12/10/2012 22:25

I kiss and cuddle him, I kiss his head and his ears, and kiss his tummy when he lays belly up. I love him so much it's pathetic, but it's all in vain as he 'tolerates it' and that's about it Sad

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight · 12/10/2012 22:28

My dane loves me and the DC's cuddling him..especially me.. he 'tolerates' DP fussing him but no cuddles, he would bite DP if he tried.

He despises men :(
Very wary of them.. won't allow one to touch him at all apart from DP and that took a long time to get to that point.
In his last home he saw DV, and experienced it.. poor lad

I love to hear that people kiss and cuddle their dogs :)

UterusUterusGhali · 12/10/2012 22:49

My Mumsnet Staffie is the most bastarding cuddly dog I've ever met.

She's been on my lap since I got in from work. Or on my shoulder. Or legs.
She gets cuddles & kisses & baby talk from all of us. We're otherwise quite normal.

She's sleep in our bed if she didn't keep pissing on it. I let her in though if dh is away or after a night shift. (don't tell though Wink)

Gymbob · 12/10/2012 22:56

What's DV Things?

QueefLatina · 12/10/2012 22:57

Mine is a border/bearded collie cross.

He has to be touching you at all times and likes to lie in my arms like a baby. I kiss and cuddle him more than my DS(15) and DH put together.

If I sit on the settee he jumps on my lap immediately. A couple of weeks ago he mistimed his jump and ended up on the settee with me sat on him!

I love my dog so so much

MothershipG · 12/10/2012 23:14

My boys are very affectionate, love getting fuss, one bounces up and down on my feet until I pick him up and the other dives onto my lap the minute I sit down. Grin

My girl is not quite so teflonish but if she's in the mood she let's you know by nudging your arm with her nose, not such a good idea when you've got a cup of tea!

Beamur · 12/10/2012 23:17

No. She smells and rolls in shit way too often.
I pat her a bit and ruffle her ears.
Then I wash my hands.

SpookhettiTwirlerAndProud · 12/10/2012 23:50

GymBob, DV is domestic violence :(

I cuddle my greyhound, but kissing is a bit too much unfortunately. I tried it once and my lips swelled up and went itchy :( bloody allergy Angry

VerySmallSqueak · 13/10/2012 08:53

Beamur Grin

D0oinMeCleanin · 13/10/2012 10:20

Puppy came for a cuddle today, it's the first time he actually looked for affection. It was a very lovely cuddle, he wrapped his body around my shoulders. Lovely puppy.

Nuttyfilly · 13/10/2012 18:00

Oh god yeah! I got 3 dobermans! Me and my son are always having kisses and cuddles! The farm collie does when he is clean!

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight · 13/10/2012 18:14

Sorry yes, domestic violence.. he was badly beaten and is only just coming out of his shell now x
Doesn't like strangers at all..

SpookhettiTwirlerAndProud · 13/10/2012 19:06

Poor boy Things, how long have you had him?

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 13/10/2012 20:31

Oh Things :( Poor boy.

Gymbob · 13/10/2012 21:14

A Great Dane suffered domestic violence? I hate people, people are such evil bastards Angry. I love my furry little boy so much I could cry to think of him being beaten

ThingsThatGoBumpInTheNight · 13/10/2012 22:51

I've had him about a year now. The woman told me he saved her life, on more than one occasion. We all know men (people) like that, if they can't hurt you by hitting you, they hurt your pets knowing it hurts you more

He is a lovely boy tbh, deaf as a post but beautiful and MINE he's the best and sooooo cuddly but he thinks he can fit on your lap :)
