I have two dogs, one is scared of bald men or people who look at him for too long, although staring with sunglasses on is acceptable!
My other dog is scared of brooms or hoovers and will scoot out of the room if they are out.
dopey dog1 will copy dog2 if he sees him run away but will happily be hoovered and swept around if dog1 is not around!
dog2 is also incredibily ignorant and will not move out of the way for anyone or anything! trotting down canal towpath he will not move for buggies or wheelchairs etc.
dopey but i love them!

The washing machine because it plays a tune when it finishes.

A policeman's boots. We had two police officers rock up here quite late one night, daft dog took exception to one of the men's boots and would not stop growling at them.

Mine hides things in grass. But only white things. She had a square of cheese in her bowl and I found it in the living room with a neat pile of grass on it... Confused

PrettyPrinceofParties · 25/07/2012 09:01

My oldest one was terrified of a shopping trolley by the canal when she was a pup. She barked at it to show she was taking no nonsense from it! Next time she saw it she ignored it, but then someone moved it about a foot, so the whole process started again! She hates cows, but doesn't mind horses, as long as they're being ridden!

My other one is frightened of certain food bowls, brushes, vacuums, strange noises, his own shadow..... He's actually very good with other animals though.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 25/07/2012 13:31

My big dog is scared of buggies, bikes, people running and plastic bags. Oh and water.

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 25/07/2012 13:59

My pup hates the hoover and brooms/brushes etc but I understand that's quite normal!
But the most bizzaire one is my clothes airer! I have one of these for hanging washing indoors when the weather is bad and he goes crazy over it! can't explain why but he whines and barks as soon as I bring it out! It's quite amusing really to watch!

D0oinMeCleanin · 25/07/2012 14:03

Whippy is scared of everything. Most amusingly she is horrified of rabbits. If she sees one we have turn around and walk in the opposite direction, she cannot walk near where a rabbit has been, even if the rabbit has scarpered.

BrianCoxhasSmellySox · 25/07/2012 14:03

Big moths....

Cat 1 has a habit of finding the biggest moths imaginable, disabling them so only 1 wing works and then bringing them in to me as a gift Hmm

I scream at the flappy monster, dog can be found sometime later cowering under my bed.

She stayed at my mum's one night. SIL saw a mahooosive spider crawl across the hearth, she didn't panic or scream but said "look at the size of that spider" at which point the dog shot upstairs and cowered and wouldn't come down for an hour!

She's an embarrassment!

groovejet · 25/07/2012 15:26

Pup is scared if he spots my dd's going on the zip wire at the park, he starts to whine then bark and when they come off he has to check that they are ok.

A few weeks back I heard him barking, found him sitting by the back door looking rather nervous about the bike and scooter I had taken out of the shed.

melliebobs · 25/07/2012 15:29

Odd People. My dog can spot a wierdo from a mile off. If we're out for a walk and there's someone just stood off the path amongst the trees looking at the scenery hell start yapping as if to say 'there's someone in the bushes there's someone in the bushes. They are acting odd. It's not normal!!!!!!' he also takes issue with kids on micro scooters ATM. And don't even get him started on people with shopping bags!!!! The most embarrassing thing was when he started yapping at a dwarf on a micro scooter Blush

Awwww patter sale terriers. U just gotta love um

I once saw a neighbours Great Dane running away from a hare!!!

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 25/07/2012 15:33

I have two dogs now who aren't bothered by much
My collie was frightened of wheelie bins when she was little as she decided to go past one on the other side to me but as she was on her lead we ended up dragging it along and she thought it was chasing her.

As as puppy my spaniel refused to walk past a pollarded tree stump. Not sure what he though it was.Hmm

My old dog absolutely hated hot air balloons and would bark furiously at any he saw float gently past, and those very threatening plastic traffic cones that had absolutely no right to be on the pavement. Grin

lauratheexplorer · 25/07/2012 15:33

whatdog has a love/hate relationship with my hairdryer. it's like she really wants to love it bit scarpers off as soon as it's anywhere near her both off and on. i am ashamed to say i use it to get her outside if the health visitor comes.

MrsVamos · 25/07/2012 15:35

My pup is scared of low tones. Really.

I have no idea why, it may be because a lot of work with a pup involves lots of high toned (voiced) praise ?

We discovered she was scared when DD had a paper towel roll (the cardboard roll bit) and was blowing in it. Pup nearly had 40 fits ! We have since discovered it has the same effect if you make a 'tube' shape with you hand and 'blow'.

It's not so bad, we are using it as a good behaviour thing actually. If she starts to play up or bark too much, all I have to do is close my hand and say "Do you want the boo's ?"

It's got to the stage now where she only has to be asked once. Smile

TroubleIsBrewing · 25/07/2012 15:36

Ddog (boxer) is terrified of water. He was chasing the tractor yesterday not a recommended sport and it went through a huge puddle and sort of took the water with it so Ddog was in the mud behind the tractor and then the tidal wave of water came back and washed over him. He was terrified, stopped still in the middle of the puddle and couldn't move, I had to go in and rescue him!

MothershipG · 25/07/2012 15:46

The loft stairs! Shock

DH finally got around to painting them at the weekend and now my middle dog refuses to walk down them! He'll go up quite happily and then just stand and the top and bark until someone rescues him... Good job he's small. I'm hoping he'll get over it in time!

TheCunnyFunt · 25/07/2012 17:33

MILs CKCS x Springer is scared of aerosol cans and the noise that you make when you blow across the top of a bottle.

My greyhound is scared of long wet grass. When we had all that rain and our grass hadn't been cut for ages he refused to go outside, when I managed to get hin out he'd just wee up the house and poo on the path then bark to be let back in Hmm

LookBehindYou · 25/07/2012 18:37

Roller garage doors and shutters.

booksandchoc · 25/07/2012 18:40

My dog is terrified, absolutely petrified of the Hoover. He shakes with fear the whole time it's on.

RedwingS · 25/07/2012 19:23

My husky is frightened of see-through bridges and steps (you know, ones made out of strong metal mesh, or wooden planks with small gaps between the planks). He will cross the bridge slowly with his body lowered and all his toes spread out, but he doesn't like it. I daren't try him on the steps in case he leaps and we both end up in a heap at the bottom.

Dog2 was frightened of everything, but has improved a lot. He is still frightened of beards, being looked at for too long, and a dog down the street that bit him once.

OlympicTeaDrinker · 25/07/2012 19:31

Tea Dog1 is scared of fishermen I don't know why he's rescue but when there is one there I have to put his lead and walk him past talking very softly that it is ok.

Tea Dog2 is scared of dogs bigger than him (he's a yorkie so can be difficult and it doesn't help that he's been attacked by lurchers and GSD). He has to get to know them slowly until he stops being nervous of them.

TheCunnyFunt · 25/07/2012 19:54

Redwing apparently a lot of dogs are scared of see-through stairs, that's something all police dogs inc. sniffers etc, have to do in their training. I watched that program ages ago on police dogs and they explained about the stair thing.

HorsesDogsNails · 25/07/2012 20:04

My supposedly-intelligent-but-really-a-bit-special Collie X has a bit of a thing about lights and shadows on the living room floor - he stares intently and then sort of pounces and occasionally tries to dig...... He also has a huge issue with the council grass cutters, and planes/helicopters...... He doesn't mind horses in fields in the distance but horses being ridden is clearly wrong on all counts.....

All of the above involve barking. Lots and loud!!

He also barks at cats, squirrels, foxes and most other assorted wildlife as well as people he deems odd or threatening - the criteria for 'odd' and 'threatening' are subject to change as his behest!!

RedwingS · 25/07/2012 20:33

That's interesting, TheCunnyFunt. I didn't know that, but I can understand why he's scared since he can see through to a big drop. I suppose police dogs have to be good at everything.

TeacakeTilly · 25/07/2012 22:25

TeacakeDog is scared of the Hoover. And she licks the carpet for no apparent reason. Hmm
