I have two dogs, one is scared of bald men or people who look at him for too long, although staring with sunglasses on is acceptable!
My other dog is scared of brooms or hoovers and will scoot out of the room if they are out.
dopey dog1 will copy dog2 if he sees him run away but will happily be hoovered and swept around if dog1 is not around!
dog2 is also incredibily ignorant and will not move out of the way for anyone or anything! trotting down canal towpath he will not move for buggies or wheelchairs etc.
dopey but i love them!

Fishermen and hay bales Confused terrified of both

Singlediva · 25/07/2012 23:10

My dog frightened of other dogs barking, the Hoover and lawnmower before they are turned on, the BBQ, any type of racket or bat and brushes!

Turquoisecat · 25/07/2012 23:24

My dog is very intelligent possibly the most stupid dog in the world. He has been/is scared of fluorescent paper boy type bags, balloons, bikes, horses. He also once started growling at a picture of a bird on a house number plate.

And he jumps every time he farts as he doesn't understand where the noise came from Grin

memphis83 · 25/07/2012 23:32

Our dog is scared of cats, any chance to escape the house onto the close for a sniff he is out there, but if a cat appears he scarpers back into the house sharpish!

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 25/07/2012 23:34

I don't know if MyDog is frightened of it but he howls at the phone. It does my head in. Even after I've answered it, he can still be heard, from wherever he is in the house, howling away mournfully. He's always done it and we've had him from a pup. And we've moved and now have a new phone with a a different ring and it still sets him off. Crazy dog.

feckingnora · 26/07/2012 05:50

dog2 also doesnt mind horses if they are being ridden, but will try to bite them if they havent a rider.
My mums dog is rascist, she hates black people and disabled people and people on hats. my mum lives near a man who had a stroke and now has a limp, the bloody dog goes mad when ever she sees him!

MuttDog is scared of my friends teeny tiny new kitten (5 weeks and the size of my hand). The terrifying monster batted Mutts nose last week and now she skirts around it leaving a good 2 foot gap!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 26/07/2012 08:36

We?ve had Pupcake1 from a puppy and were really careful about socialisation / fear periods and stuff, so he?s fairly well balanced. Whenever he has a sudden bark at something (like a chair that?s been moved slightly, or an abandoned shopping trolley), we just say ?don?t be silly, come and look?, and he?ll slink up and sniff it. Then he has a really obvious attitude change, as if he?s saying ?Oh! That?s what it is! I didn?t realise?, and he trots off quite happily. However he seems to really dislike DH?s youngest sister. She?s only a teenager and seems perfectly inoffensive to me, but Pupcake1 barks and growls any time we see her.

Pupcake2 we?ve only had 9 months, she was a puppy-farm breeder and then was in a dogs home for 5 months before we had her, so her list of quirks is?varied. So far we?ve discovered she dislikes TV remotes, Phones (especially DH?s iPhone), fluffy dogs, DH?s clothes if they?ve been thrown over the back of the chair (I?m with her on that one) and people bending over. This is a dramatic improvement. When we brought her home she was afraid of people holding out food, going through doors, having her paws touched (actually she?s still not overly keen on that), clickers, our gerbils, the bed, water (now a converted water baby)? the list was pretty endless!

Both do weird stuff quite regularly. Pupcake1 will scoot down on his shoulders and wiggle his bum in the air for me to scratch it, and he?s recently taken to eating the fruit directly off the bushes in the garden (actually he?s a lab so probably not so unusual). Pupcake2 licks the backs of my legs to get my attention (not very effective if I?m wearing jeans). They both bark viciously if somebody comes to the door, but if that person is a close friend and they just open the door and come in, both dogs run away and hide under the table (they have a combined weight of 60kg but would be largely useless as guard dogs). Actually, the more I think about it the more kooky I realise my dogs are?

Turquoisecat YY Grin my Mini Schnauzer jumps up and looks at her butt every time she farts, and it doesn't even make a noise so it must just be the sensation that startles her...she then look accusingly at whoever she was sitting next to! Grin

She's not a windy dog, it doesn't happen that often, but at 6 you'd think she would be used too it by now!

suburbandream · 26/07/2012 11:08

Our pup is scared of hanging baskets Confused. Also we have a big green watering can in the garden and he goes bonkers when he sees it, trying to jump on it and barking at it. Goodness knows why!!

Turquoisecat · 26/07/2012 13:52

OMG Mothers it must be a mini schnauzer thing!! Mine is 3! Grin Grin Grin

cocolepew · 26/07/2012 13:55

Henry the hoover and music on the telly. You know the sort of low, deep keyboard music that gets played in the background? Freaks her right out . She either runs away or glares at the tv, growling.

overthemill · 26/07/2012 14:01

old dog was scared shitless of hot air ballons (we used to live close to one of the Virgin launching sites so a tad inconvenient

he also was scared of men with hats on

current dog, not sure but something in the dead of night that is in the garden! (fox, hedgehog, muntjac deer????)

wannabedomesticgoddess · 26/07/2012 14:08

Our older dog hates birds and cows. If a bird lands on the garden fence he will prowl the garden and bark, making it very clear to the bird whos boss. Hes never had a bad experience with cows but everytime he sees one he goes down really low and all his hackles come up.

The puppy hates moths or flies. Chases the mop, hides from the hoover and sleeps on her back twisted round so that her face is looking at her privates. Actually we are going to check out that last thing with the vet because it is not normal!!

MothershipG · 26/07/2012 15:46

lol! GrinGrinGrin Turquoise who knew??

D0oinMeCleanin · 26/07/2012 15:58

We have just discovered that our current foster is scared of long grass after attempting a walk through the woods only to have him leap frog about every time the grass touched him Grin

Not sure how he's gonna cope when he goes to live on a farm next week, where I was told the grass was that long my dog was totally buried in it and could only be located by listening for the rustling and grunting Grin

TantrumsAndBalloons · 26/07/2012 16:02

Ah how is the foster dog getting on d0oin

Are you going to keep him?

D0oinMeCleanin · 26/07/2012 16:07

I would love to. I've really fallen for him, but we can't afford to insure a third dog and I really don't to stop fostering. There is only space for three dogs.

He is an angel.

He'll be coming back here after our holidays if he doesn't find a forever home in the meantime.

He is absolutely brilliant with dd2. He's more gentle with her than he is with the adults in the house. I really can't believe that he has ever snapped at a child, if he did the child must have been tormenting him or hurting him.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 26/07/2012 16:12

I used to hate having to give my foster dogs back

We would have had about 17 dogs in the house if I had the space and the money.

D0oinMeCleanin · 26/07/2012 16:15

It's hard isn't it? But worth it knowing that because you are fostering there is space to save one more dog Smile

He has stolen whippy's bed. She's on his with devil dog and devil dog's is empty.

DH managed to convince him to sit on the sofa last night, it's the first time he's gotten on to snuggle with us. He wasn't allowed on the furniture in his first house.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 26/07/2012 16:21

Ah bless. Our last foster dog used to follow big dog everywhere and I mean everywhere. He was always tripping over him. He used to try and fit in the bed with him as well.

Fieldette · 26/07/2012 16:44

My springer spaniel pup is scared of her own farts! She turns round and makes a really suprised face at her own bottom, and then looks accusingly at you as if to say 'that was your fault'! Grin

She is also obessessed with birds and feathers, not that suprising as she is from gundog stock, and will chase bird shadows across the garden and also chase them in the sky - she runs flat out whilst staring at the sky, and then runs into the fence!

And gooseberries! I have discovered the reason that they aren't fruiting that well this year is becuause she's been eating them all off the bush, the little tinker!

Fieldette · 26/07/2012 16:46

She also likes to climb on my lap and bury her face under my chin, she then sits there huffing and puffing and licking me to death.

It's very cute and rather endearing but she does leave me feeling a bit soggy afterwards!

kate2boysandabump · 26/07/2012 16:55

Dog1 is scared of the dc doing anything she perceives as 'dangerous'. For example she will stand on the shore and bark the whole time they are in the sea as if to say 'that's not safe you know'. However, she would never go in after them, as she is scared of the water Hmm

Dog2 is scared of the hoover, I don't even have to turn it on and he runs and hides.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 26/07/2012 17:20

suburbandream My dog has a problem with hanging baskets too. He's not scared though, he really, really hates them; he barks, growls, even tries to jump up to 'get' them. We have no idea why. He first saw one at 6 months old, and he still hates them now (he's 10 years) I can only think he's got it into his head that flowers grow in the ground, therefore it's unnatural for them to be up in the air.
