Need urgent advice for my dad, selling entire boxer pup on FB!!!!

TheCunnyFunt · 18/05/2012 16:08

He owns the mother and the son, the pup was born end of september and he is now bigger than mum and trying to be the boss apparently. The mother is getting pissed off with it and keeps putting him in his place, my dad reckons she'll end up killing him eventually as she may be smaller but is a lot more powerful.

He is advertising him on FB, he is heartbroken at having to get rid of him, I just wondered if there is anything I can tell him to do that doesn't mean he has to get rid of him. He isn't neutered either which is more reason I need urgent replies, I don't want him to end up as a puppy farm stud or used for fighting.

They keep fighting too, everytime he goes out. He has no way of separating them, he lives on a narrowboat!

Will your dad not consider neutering him and spaying the mother?

AllergicToNutters · 18/05/2012 18:00

could he not contact a boxer rescue or a local rescue to take him in. that'd be miles better than FB for advertising!

TheCunnyFunt · 18/05/2012 18:05

He's completely skint and can't afford either let alone both. Will suggest it though just in case. Although I know what he would say, 'what if it doesn't solve it?'

I think the PDSA would help with neutering/spaying.

AllergicToNutters · 18/05/2012 18:30

do you have to pay for a rescue to take your dog in? Surely not?!

yesbutnobut · 18/05/2012 18:33

Is your dad selling the dog or giving him away? If the latter then hopefully you can persuade him to go the rescue route instead.

yesbutnobut · 18/05/2012 18:34

Sorry just saw the thread title and he is selling this dog. How sad Sad, hope you can persuade him to act in the best interests of the dog OP.

TheCunnyFunt · 18/05/2012 18:37

He says 'no silly offers, £400 ono' :( We would take him but I'm allergic to dogs (except greyhounds Confused And dad reckons he should go to where he is the only dog and we have a grund.

daisydotandgertie · 18/05/2012 18:39

Persuade him not to advertise on Facebook. It is the work of the devil and the poor dog could end up anywhere - fighting, puppy farming, anywhere.

Where is he? Which county? There are boxer rescues that cover the country who would be my first port of call.

TheCunnyFunt · 18/05/2012 18:42

He's in Nottinghamshire but only just, he's just at the edge of Lincolnshire.

TheCunnyFunt · 18/05/2012 18:54

Do the PDSA have a webpage about neutering vouchers? If so can someone do me a link please?

OP posts:
daisydotandgertie · 18/05/2012 19:36

Here's boxer rescue notts.

Other than prevention more pups, I'm not sure neutering will solve the problem I'm afraid.

TheCunnyFunt · 18/05/2012 19:41

Oh :( that's a shame. Thanks for the link.

If your dad is on various types of benefit, the Dogs Trust may be able to help with the cost of neutering.

kilmuir · 18/05/2012 19:53

how irresponsible

TheCunnyFunt · 18/05/2012 20:03

I don't think he's on any benefits.

Which bit is irresponsible Kilmuir?

OP posts:
thewizenedone · 18/05/2012 20:53

Please direct him to Boxer rescue if at all possible, prospective adopters will be thoroughly vetted before they are allowed to have him. Boxers are/can be an aqcuired taste Grin I have had them for 20 years. But some people dont see past the soppy face. Worse case scenario is that they impulse buy and along with your own fears, there is also the case where they are not prepared for the boisterous hound they have bought and poor dog gets passed on again. I know you say cash is an issue but if the fighting gets out of hand one or both will end up injured and then the vets costs will be high in any event. Dont mean to preach but just my point of view, you know your dad better than anyone. Hope all goes well with him and the dogs.

kilmuir · 19/05/2012 01:33

The irresponsible bit is having unneutered animals and trying to sell to whoever on facebook

jubilucket · 19/05/2012 01:38

Is your dad desperate for the £400? Sad

TheCunnyFunt · 19/05/2012 08:00

Yes Kilmuir, I think we all noticed that. Why do you think I started this thread?

Jubilucket I'm sure it would help, but I'm not sure he's too bothered about the money. He only bred his bitch because he'd read that boxer bitches go 'funny' if they haven't had a litter by about 6yo. There were 6 pups, he kept one and the rest were sold about £400 each I think. He was telling me that out of all of that with the vets vees and everything he only made about £80.

TheCunnyFunt · 19/05/2012 08:04

TheWizenedOne I know exactly what you mean, he's 8mo (I think, they were born end of Sept, ready in time for christmas too :() someone is gonna buy him totally unprepared for the stage he is at in his life and they're gonna think 'wtf have we done? He's got to go!' and so he'll end up god knows where.

OP posts:
HillyWallaby · 19/05/2012 08:18

The boy dog is at a difficult adolescent age, and flexing his muscles and being a bit gobby. It's really not fair to get rid of him when he is only 7 or 8 months old, he hasn't been given a chance to grow up yet! It's also a bit unfair to keep an entire male dog around an entire female dog - she's probably got the needle with him because he won't leave her alone - what does your dad expect?!

The best thing, if he genuinely is heartbroken about getting rid of him, would be to try to get both the dogs spayed/neutered by the PDSA and then keep the boy dog, as hopefully that should calm them both down a bit. If he puts in the hours on some proper behavioural training then this time next year they could be getting on just fine. I have a father and daughter combo (both neutered) and they get on like a house on fire.

TheCunnyFunt · 19/05/2012 08:19

I've sent him that link above, along with a long message saying where he could end up if sold on again etc. Just hope he takes notice :( He's such a cutie aswell, he's got a funny face, with a lopsided white streak down it, the streak goes down just to one side of his nose so half his muzzle his white and the other half is black :o

TheCunnyFunt · 19/05/2012 09:21

Sorry Hilly only just seen your post. He says he hasn't got the time to sort it out otherwise he would. He hasn't replied to either my messages about neutering or rescue Hmm
