My poodle pup is arriving on friday. I have read Gwen Bailey, bought a crate, found the ticking clock, and booked a vet appointment for saturday morning.

I am beyond excited!

Just wanted to say thanks to those of you who helped with advice during the search process... and thanks for all the advice on the threads I have picked up .

( Really I just wanted to share my good news.. everyone I tell at work thinks I have lost the plot!!)

How lovely. What size of poodle?

wizzler · 14/03/2012 20:39

He is a toy... I visited him last week and he is just one gorgeous bundle of fluff!

Ah cute! What colour?

We have a standard - he is fabulous. He's over 12 now, so getting on a bit, but he has been a brilliant dog for the children. I'm sure yours will be just as great.

ChickensHaveNoLips · 14/03/2012 20:51

We will need pics, of course Grin Oh, and name?

wizzler · 14/03/2012 21:05

He is going to be called Rafa...
I took a couple of pics when I saw him, and have put them on my profile for you to peruse... ( hope it works.. not done it before)

Oh, he's beautiful!

AgathaFusty · 14/03/2012 21:12

He is beautiful. Same colour as ours. So lovely with fluffy, curly muzzles.

AllergicToNutters · 14/03/2012 22:13

oh, how lovely! You sound so thrilled. And what a great name. Smile. Keep us posted Smile

yesbutnobut · 14/03/2012 22:40

He is gorgeous!!! How exciting for you all. Just one thing to mention - if you're insuring your pup when you collect him, be aware that the cover probably won't kick in until after 14 days (check the small print). I mention this as you're taking him to the vets on Saturday as it would mean if the vet finds anything and notes it on the record, you could have a problem making a claim in future. When I took my pup to the vet I told her that I was in the 14 day window period and asked her not to write anything down. Sounds OTT but I learnt my lesson the hard way with one of my cats.

Do let us know how you get on Smile

daisydotandgertie · 15/03/2012 11:08

It does depend on the insurance you have though. Breeders and some vets issue a 4 or 6 week free insurance certificate which is activated by them and is valid immediately. The policies of often from either the Kennel Club or PetPlan.

It is designed to cover the puppy's first few weeks at home. Of course, you will then need to activate your own policy to follow on from that, ideally 14 days before the end of the free period so you are never left without cover.

The only possible issue with that is if something significant is found during the free insurance period, then you will have to continue insuring with the original provider rather than go somewhere else to ensure cover for the condition isn't excluded.

And your puppy is gorgeous.

Very exciting wizzler. We are getting our 8 week golden retriever puppy as well tomorrow Smile

AllergicToNutters · 15/03/2012 14:38

TMC - how exciting! That's waht we want Smile

yesbutnobut · 15/03/2012 18:46

Thought you were after a yellow labrador Allergic? EIther way they are gorgeous!

AllergicToNutters · 15/03/2012 18:51

i am. A golden retriever is my first choice but they are harder to find and a tad more expensive. Have kept my options open a bit. I love all the retrievers Smile

yesbutnobut · 15/03/2012 21:03

Me too Allergic. Have you looked on the Champdogs website? They only have health tested breeders on there. Smile

yesbutnobut · 15/03/2012 21:04

I mean breeders who health test not health tested breeders !

AllergicToNutters · 15/03/2012 21:17

i'm always on there! I've registered with the Champdog breeders so i get notifications. All very exciting!

momnipotent · 15/03/2012 21:24

Ah wizzler, he's gorgeous! And I love the name! Have a great day tomorrow. You can't beat the arrival of a new puppy, so exciting.

yesbutnobut · 15/03/2012 22:21

Daisy thanks for pointing that out about insurance - that makes total sense to me now (that the breeder insurance is of immediate effect). I was very green when I bought my cats and didn't realise about the 14 day window which applied to my own insurance.

I've gone with Greenbee for my puppy (John Lewis). it seems quite reasonable - but not the cheapest - and offers lifetime cover which is getting harder and harder to find.

wizzler · 16/03/2012 08:38

Thanks for the tips on insurance... I am off to get him now!!! Hurrah!!!!

How exciting Smile

Toomanychoices · 16/03/2012 10:09

Good luck wizzler, we are off to get ours as well. We will probably be sharing sleepless night and toilet training stories in the next few weeks Grin

LauraShigihara · 16/03/2012 10:20

Good luck for today! He looks utterly adorable.

I once had the extreme pleasure of looking after three black poodle puppies for a few weeks (long boring story) and they were so sweet, I have always had a soft spot for them.

AllergicToNutters · 16/03/2012 11:22

when is he coming OP? I bet you cannot wait! Keep us posted Smile

AgathaFusty · 16/03/2012 17:16

Hope those with new puppies have had a lovely day with them (and get a little bit of sleep tonight Grin).
