My poodle pup is arriving on friday. I have read Gwen Bailey, bought a crate, found the ticking clock, and booked a vet appointment for saturday morning.

I am beyond excited!

Just wanted to say thanks to those of you who helped with advice during the search process... and thanks for all the advice on the threads I have picked up .

( Really I just wanted to share my good news.. everyone I tell at work thinks I have lost the plot!!)

Wizzler how are things? Our puppy had a busy day meeting everyone and her new home. Ate well managed 2 wees outside and 3 in the kitchen Grin and is now settled in her crate. I hope it lasts!

Toomanychoices - how lovely for you! I hope you get some zzzz tonight. What's her name?

Toomanychoices · 17/03/2012 08:51

Her name is Juno. She is a cutie and I forgive her for howling half the night, but she's not allowed a repeat performance tonight Wink

yesbutnobut · 17/03/2012 12:21

Toomanychoices - what will you do if she howls tonight? She is only very tiny and is used to sleeping in a pile of puppies so though I'm sure she will soon settle (sounds like you're all loving her) but it is probably going to take more than one night. When I got my pup I took her outside at midnight for a last wee, then popped her in her crate. I then left her til almost 6 and it seemed it worked ok. Congratulations on your new arrival and what a nice name Smile

We folded after 3 nights of howling when ours was a puppy. We bought him into our room, which is where he has slept ever since.

AllOverIt · 17/03/2012 18:06

We just wore ear plugs for 3 nights with our cocker, we picked her up in November. It was too sad to listen to, but after 3 nights she stopped crying. Sounds awful now I write it down Sad

Toomanychoices · 18/03/2012 09:57

Allovelt what did you do about toilet? Last night I got up twice (at 1.30 and 4) and both times she needed a wee. She sleeps in a crate

Glad to hear its not just me up in the night! We have Rafa in our room in a crate.. First night he was fine. Woke once, I took him outside for a wee and he went back to sleep until 6am

Last night he was up every 2 hours, and then cried for 20mins when put back in his crate. I gamely took him outside each time he woke and it was throwing it down with rain.

Anyway, I am shattered but he is very chipper.. has had first trip to vets for jabs and is just a bundle of fun and mischief. I am trying desperately hard to keep him awake this evening!

I couldn't leave a new pup alone to cry all night. I put mine in a box beside my bed so I knew when he needed to go out and he was quickly house-trained. He soon moved onto my bed, of course.

DH and I were musing whether we should move his crate to the kitchen tonight... then we looked at his little face and said, "no... lets keep him with us a bit longer"...

crates for dh's............good idea Grin

We put out puppy pads and she went on these. She came pretty much house trained anyway as the breeder was really good at teaching them. Smile She had an wee on the pad most nights for about 3 weeks, and then they just stopped. She was house trained fully within about 3-4 weeks. We had her in a crate in the hall, but with the door open. When she was about 4 months, we put this in the boot of the car and she just has a bed in the hall now.
