Rain, mud, wind and massive muddy puddles are heaven for Rollo! (11 mnth golden retriever). He particularly likes changing the colour of his peachy blond fur to dark grey charcoal!

We had two wet and windy walks yesterday, even though at one point, it looked as if we were beneath a mini tornado! Rollo has boundless energy and at the end of an incredibly windswept, mud-up-to-the-butt hour, when DTs and I were absolutely shattered, Rollo was getting his 'second wind' and dashing about like a mad thing! DT2 is terrified of tornados/high winds but he's just having to cope with confronting his fears, as Rollo adores a big breeze!

We just manage to dry three sets of clothes between walks or have to change completely. My new wellies have already got a huge hole in, so I'm wearing a plastic bag on one foot, beneath the boot - much to Rollo's quizzical astonishment.

Think today is supposed to be drier here but still windy. Hope our boots and macs have dried overnight. Managed to brush out Rollo's muddy fur once he'd dried off, leaving a dust pile all over the kitchen floor, which Rollo immediately tries to hoover up!

Not yet-will have to try soon though.

Last time I tried doggy just reversed back in the doorGrin

bloody hell that wind! ITs horrible out there. Sad DH took the dogs out this morning and he said it was awful. Dogs didnt want to run in the wind and were generally not best behaved. oops.

louby86 · 05/01/2012 15:17

My 17 week old lab was literally blown over when he jumped out the back door to go to the toilet this morning! Strangely must have enjoyed it as he was really excited when I got his lead out later Grin

UptownAbbie · 05/01/2012 15:23

Agree, really horrible out today, nearly got blown off my feet by gusts. Dog very badly behaved and reverted to bouncy puppy - jumping, dashed about with half a tree in his mouth and tripped me up. A man was leaning against a tree trying to find a bit of shelter to blow his nose and dog jumped up and grabbed the tissue out of his hand Blush despite me seeing it coming well in advance and shouting, blowing stop whistle etc. I apologised profusely and man just glared and stomped off.

Avoided the woods today as DH saw two huge branches come down there. We've not had much luck on our walks recently.

The hound just raised an eyebrow at me when I offered him the garden earlier. He's doing his scrabbly dreaming thing at the moment, probably fantasising about the wind blowing all the squirrels out of the trees. 'It's raining squirrels, halleluiah...'

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 05/01/2012 16:12

oh dear uptown the wind does make them naughty, animals and kids!

musicposy · 05/01/2012 17:56

Didn't go this morning as it was just too torrential. There was a small window early afternoon when the rain stopped so we went out then. Our older dog would have been happy with just going in the garden, but 20mth old must have a walk (two a day, really) or she is impossible.

Everyone else must have thought the same because there was just about every dog walker in the village over the fields! But it was still incredibly blustery so I didn't go for long, maybe 30 mins ish. I timed it just right because the rain started up again as I got back.

DH is home tonight and he takes them before they go to bed no matter what (less of a wimp than me) so he can deal with it later! Grin

fruitshootsandheaves · 05/01/2012 18:00

I went out with mine this morning. My collie was blown off the path when she stopped for a wee Grin my spaniel prefers the winter as he gets too hot in the summer.
He doesn't care what the weather is like, although he was a bit confused by the fact that his ball was not traveling in the direction he kept heading!

musicposy · 05/01/2012 18:07

lissielou are you sure your dog is a JRTX? My mad-must-go-out-or-tear-the-house-down dog is a JRTX! I can't leave her with no walk, no matter how bad the weather!

MissBetsy mine is obsessed with squirrels. Luckily (!) we are all fields here and don't have them near us. But if I ever take her for walks where there are squirrels, she is hyped up for days, and the scrabbly dreams increase Grin.

OracleInaCoracle · 05/01/2012 18:19

musicposy, definitely, not sure he knows it though....

marshkat · 05/01/2012 20:32

we have been out lots today, my jrt x yorkie hates the rain but loves the wind!! he almost flys along the beach. its only water, the worst that will happen is we all get wet cold and muddy, nothing a nice hot shower cant sort out. im bracing myself for more bad weather!

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 06/01/2012 12:51

Todays walk was beautiful! Cold, frosty and dry, not a whisper of wind. Wrapped up warm and dogs not too muddy at the end, bonus!

musicposy · 06/01/2012 13:26

It's lovely today, I'm taking JRTX down to the beach when DD2 goes to ballet later. She'll love it (though sometimes the beach is a bit too exciting and she forgets she is meant to come back when called).

Older dog will stay at home. He hates the car and the beach stresses him. He's a sheltie and the sheepdog in him drives him to round the sea up. Endlessly. With lots of barking and no success, because for some absurd reason, even if he nips it, the sea will not do as he says. :)

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 07/01/2012 10:00

bless the sheltie trying to round up the sea. Grin

I miss the beach so much! Our dogs love it, but only get to go when we are in Scotland.

ObviouslyOblivious · 07/01/2012 10:19

My older collie loves to herd the waves!
