Share stories, advice and ask for help if you need it! There are a few resident hound experts (myself not included) in the doghouse, so, feel free to share! :)

Ok, Petplan were the problem. They had lost our paperwork so they claimed we weren't insured. Did you have to call to activate the policy? Keep everything they've sent you or the breeder gave you because there's a chance you'll have to scan it in and send it back to them to prove you're covered! And don't take no for an answer. I spent between 30mins - hour on the phone to them every day for a week and only after speaking to the Customer Services Manager did it get sorted. (To be fair it did get sorted within about 15 mins after I'd spoken to him, and with a big apology!)

I hope our case was a one off but do be careful because they'll do whatever it takes to wriggle out of covering you for whatever it's most likely you'll claim for.

lostinwales · 21/01/2012 21:58

Thank you for the heads up, I'll give them a call in the morning and check everything is going ok (quite possibly without mentioning the £100 plus of bills we've already managed to rack up...)

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 23/01/2012 17:55

I want my dog :( s'not fair

Thanks lost I know it hopefully won't be much longer, but it just seems to be taking forever. If Robbie had been good he would've been with us for 7 weeks now! That's how long it's been since he arrived and then left.

I'm glad whippety is putting his weight on now, you must be so relieved! What did you do about his insurance?

Oh spaghetti, it will happen... remember that saying The best thing come to those who wait!!

lost glad to hear pup is doing so well. He is sooooo lovely...

Sam is back to sloppy poo. We took him to the Celia Cross Kennels on Saturday for a long run in the field. Cue sloppy poos all weekend. yesterday and today they are sloppy with harder bits in...

He had his last ever (hopefully, keep everything corssed) steroid tab this morning. I have to phone the vet in exactly 48 hours with a health update...

Would love to feed Sam the odd chicken wing etc, am convinced it would firm things up, but am not allowed to experiment just yet...

But he is a chunky 16.2kg now (compared to 11.2 when he was very ill) and is so full of energy we cannot keep up with him. Getting very naughty too, just in the last few days he has chewed a buckle of my brandnew brown boots (sob), the strap on an old red handbag (did not like bag anyway so binned it) and 3 wooden handles on the bedside table are comletely chewed through.

Oh well, the joys of dog ownership...

Will be back later to advise on collars (get the velvety one from a lovely lady on facebook who makes them on behalf of the Celia Cross Trust and donates £2 from every collar sold. I like them as they are not as wide as some greyhound collars and Sam has quite a slender whippety neck....

Better go back to work, came home for lunch to feed and play with doggle. Back to work for 2 hours now.

Will link to collar lady tonight if you want lost Smile

lostinwales · 24/01/2012 13:11

Yes please lock Smile

Sam does look just like Silver in the side on pic you have on your profile. He is a stunning dog, I can't wait until my boy is big and beautiful like him. I'm glad he is getting better, nice to meet another member of poo obsessives too!

Don't laugh (well you can if you like) but his wing has completely dissappeared, I was watching him eat but he had his back to me and when he came and sat by the door I went to get any left bits for the bin but it has vanished Shock has he really eaten the entire thing? It would explain why he is having a nice long snooze now (on his hot water bottle Blush)

BehindLockNumberNine · 24/01/2012 20:46

This is the lady on facebook who creates the beautiful housecollars. She makes them out of velvet but also has other fabrics available. I fell in love with the reindeer ones before Christmas but had to restrain myself. Thinking about going for a spotty one for the summer though...

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 24/01/2012 20:58

Lost, a hot water bottle? Really? Shock

Lock that link won't work on my phone. What's her name? Or if you don't want to say could you pm me please?

BehindLockNumberNine · 24/01/2012 21:40

spag, her name is Melanie Rydoff, she has a fb page called Housecollars... The white/blue greyhound modelling some of the collars is her greyhound Heather who was adopted from Celia Cross. She also has a poodle called Felix. All other dogs modelling her collars are from Celia Cross. There are some adorable puppies modelling collars, these are the rescued pups which ds was allowed to help bottle feed this summer (and I cuddled them lots and plotted several ways to puppynap them Smile)

BehindLockNumberNine · 24/01/2012 21:40

Sorry, her page is called House collars (with the space)

Scuttlebutter · 24/01/2012 21:48

Lost, you just know that tweed coat would be perfect for crisp autumn days strolling across a glorious Pembrokeshire headland, rambling across a beautiful Pembrokeshire beach, or promenading with a few pointy friends.

Lock, so pleased Sam is gaining weight and condition... Grin Fab news.

BehindLockNumberNine · 24/01/2012 22:01

Thank you scuttle. We are so pleased (even though he is now turning into a naughty little monkey eating his way through our belongings and furniture...)

Have a lovely picture, taken by dd, of Sam on the sofa with his cuddely toy. It shows his shaved (but perfectly round) belly very well. Will add it to profile.

BehindLockNumberNine · 24/01/2012 22:09

Picture added Smile

Scuttlebutter · 24/01/2012 22:18

Awww, that is such a lovely pic. He is one gorgeous boy.

Love the way he is cuddling his Mollymoocow. And it's so good to hear he has the energy and sparkle to be naughty! Smile

BehindLockNumberNine · 24/01/2012 22:21

Thank you scuttle Smile We absolutely adore him, he is just so so loved. Currently curled up next to me, with one front and one rear leg hooked over my legs and his snout against my hip. Such a cuddle monster...

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 25/01/2012 05:52

Thanks, but I'd re-link to it if I were you, that link worked after all and god knows what you actually linked to!

My name is Melanie too :o

Sam is just so gorgeous all pointys are really aren't they. Starting to think about when to get another (it's going to need to be at least 12 months isn't it, bum). Did realise last night though that whilst our garden is a lovely size for a whippet to stretch his legs between walks it might be a bit of a squeeze for a greyhound Been looking at IG sites too but they look a bit small and damageable, I'm starting to feel like the Goldilocks of pointy hounds Grin.

Yes a hot water bottle Spaghetti, is that really bad, he gets cold easily outside and was shivering but determined to finish his chicken wing so I wrapped up his hot water bottle in a length of fleece when he came in and he lay across it all snug and happy. I never spoilt my children but I'm doing it with the damn dog aren't I? Insurance all sorted though, gone for lifetime cover.

He has lovely well formed poo today after his wing, I think I'm going to go full on raw feeding next week. He looks at his kibble now as if to say 'what the hell is this'. Does anyone have experience with the companies that provide ice cream tub like packs for the freezer, I'd want to start using that as well as foraging at the butchers, just to get my confidence up. Going to a friends this weekend and she is introducing me to the joys of green tripe Envy Shock

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 25/01/2012 11:42

Yes Lost you are spoiling him :o He's really fell on his paws coming to you though hasn't he? What's an IG? It's probably really obvious but I'm thick Blush :o

Good luck with the green tripe (although, green? Really?), I'm sure it's lovely Wink

Just look at these beautiful creatures Italian Greyhounds.

Green tripe for dog btw not me, thought I'd better clear that one up!

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 25/01/2012 15:12

Oooooooh of course. IG - Italian Greyhound. I knew it would be obvious :o

I did gather that the tripe was for the dog :o

NotMostPeople · 25/01/2012 17:15

Ooh thanks for that link, we've been wondering what our Lurcher might be a cross of as he's not quite as big as a greyhound, but bigger than a whippet. He looks a lot like those Italian greyhounds ie. gorgeous.

BehindLockNumberNine · 25/01/2012 19:43

spaghetti have just checked my link and it goes straight to house collars? So not sure where you ended up?

BehindLockNumberNine · 25/01/2012 19:48

NotMost - according to the link Italian Greyhounds are smaller than whippets....
Which surprises me, I thought they wer bigger....but never having met an IG what do I know...

Our lurcher is bigger than a whippet - taller at the shoulders and broader. But is definately much much smaller than a greyhound and is thus definately a whippet based lurcher...

BehindLockNumberNine · 25/01/2012 19:50

Green Tripe... yum.... remember that from our Cocker owning days...

Just don't do what I do, which is to buy the frozen bags from PAH, forget how many you have bought, carry all of them into the freezer but forget about one of them.. Then leave the car on the driveway in blazing sunshine for 4 days. The stench the next time we opened the car was like nothing I have ever smelled before. Death and decomposition may justabout come close...
