Thanks guys, Have had a very purry cat out in lounge for a bit. Cat has hissed at The Lurcher so she's backed off and lay down to watch at a distance. Will continue to do this for a couple of weeks, I think but hopeful. :)

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 11/01/2012 09:28

Where is everybody?

OP posts:
lostinwales · 11/01/2012 09:42

I'm here! I have lots of homework so I am always on the computer at the moment and I can't go far from home whilst we are 'potty training'! He's getting very good now, he will get up and run to the back door if he needs to 'go'. DH and I stood in the door watching him last night like a pair of proud toddler parents Blush. He is doing 'sit' now as well and socialsation is coming on well.

How are you getting on, any closer to making your house habitable for a pointy friend? When does the rescue lady come back?

My pointy baby sits at my feet whilst I am studying and watches out the (floor level) windows. We get a few cats through the garden but so far he just tracks them as they go past and nothing else, do you think he's really a whippet?

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 11/01/2012 11:50

Well lost we're all ready for a dog, have bed, bowls and food and a few tag collars Blush already just need a pooch now! Not sure when she gets back, she went away on saturday for a week so friday maybe?

Wrt the cats, maybe he's just biding his time, and gaining their trust by not chasing them till he's big enough to chase them! Sounds like he's doing really well! How are his poos now?

OP posts:
lostinwales · 13/01/2012 11:19

I have just had my first piece of puppy bling through courtesy of silver peacock Grin. I will put a picture of him in it on my profile the minute he wakes up for me to play dress up!

Poos still bad on and off, the vet has sent a sample off and he's having a very bland diet poor little man. I am feeding him little and often but I can't work out if that's any good or if he would be better off having long breaks between meals to give his tummy a rest. This is harder than having children!

Hope the rescue lady is back soon. Having read the thread on greyhound 'leans' I want one now! they sound sooo lovely.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 13/01/2012 11:30

Saw a lady yesterday walking a greyhound and a whippet together, they made a lovely pair. . . . . :o

I hope everythings ok with him, hopefully you should get his results back soon and then you'll know. Hopefully he's just managing to snaffle things he shouldn't be, which is why they're good and bad ones!

Can't wait to see him in his bling though!

lostinwales you need to get yourself onto The Whippet Forum. I have just registered but not done much else with it.
One of my friends (who had two whippets, now has two whippety lurchers one of whom is my Sam's brother) has found it invaluable. Apparently (according to sources there) whippety poo is often sludgy so don't fret too much if the vet does not find anything...

spaghetti - not long to wait now....fingers crossed!

lostinwales · 13/01/2012 14:22

Whippet Forum I will go and find more whippety chat post haste!

Bling puppy on profile, he's asleep bu you can see the lovely impractical collar.

Whippet and a greyhound you say...

miacis · 13/01/2012 14:48

Glad to see room for growth in that collar Lost Grin

lostinwales · 13/01/2012 15:04
Grin
BehindLockNumberNine · 13/01/2012 16:31

Oh lost - lovely puppy, beautiful collar! (And I still think he looks like a mini version of my Sam...)

Am very keen to buy Sam another collar, but he already has a red velvet house collar and a black leather fishtail for walking so that should be enough.

Am after a fleece house coat next...

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 13/01/2012 19:04

Ooh lovely collar! I love that colour, so striking and eye catching!

Lock I have everything crossed. I'm hoping it's not too long before she gets some more dogs in. They have some lovely looking ones at Boston though, I wish we were closer. 120 mile round trip with a baby who hates her carseat would not be fun!

Our dog-to-be already has 2 tag collars here Blush just a cheap black nylon one from wilkos, and a lovely blue one with brown dots from GRWE. I only got the black one just incase the blue one didn't turd up in time for Robbies arrival :(

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 13/01/2012 19:05

Turd? Confused obviously I meant turn Blush :o

Aww. That pup is a'breakin' my heart Lost.

I tried to persuade DH Bill needed a red velvet house collar but he said he'd refuse to take him out for his walk. He did submit to the tasteless yet v practical and rather entertaining rainbow pyjamas but only because he doesn't go out in them. In fact, DH took him out for a round the block once wearing them (the dog, not him) and got laughed at twice.

I told him to buck up and be proud of his dog and it didn't matter. I spent the whole time remembering my mum telling me that 'jeans are jeans and it doesn't matter if you're wearing bellbottoms and everyone else is wearing drainpipes with zips up the side'. Flares in 1983 FFS.I was dressed in jumble sale, all my friends in Chelsea Girl.

Spag your hound is out there waiting for you. Probably just run their last race, curled up in their chilly outdoor kennel, dreaming of your sofa...

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 18/01/2012 18:35

Wow, rainbow PJs? I bet he looks so funky! I can't wait till I can buy our hound PJs, I want some sheep print ones :o

OP posts:
MissBetsyTrotwood · 18/01/2012 19:22

He doesn't look funky unfortunately - just rather silly. But it was the only coat they had left in Large and I wanted him to be warm. Every time he puts it on he raises his eyebrows as if to say 'Must I? Grin

What news Spag?

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 18/01/2012 22:49

No news yet. I'm contemplating getting in touch with the boston kennels (60 miles away) and asking if they have any suitable dogs. I know they have a girl who has never raced, and her bio says she'd make a great family pet. Although, it's a girl, and we'd (mainly DP, he wants another male in the house) prefer a boy. Going to ask him what he thinks of possibly travelling 120 miles to see a dog(s). Won't be fun with DD though, she hates to have her movement restricted like sat in a carseat for too long.

How is your leg after your fall now betsy?
:o eyebrows raised. I know what you mean though, when I saw Lgt on their christmas stall all the dogs were wearing antlers and expressions saying 'I wish the ground would open up and swallow me!'

OP posts:
lostinwales · 19/01/2012 08:49

I really want a greyhound now too! Their expressions are the best. It looks quite hard to find rescue whippets so I might have to get one next time Grin.

Whippety boy is on anti-biotics now as his poo test came back that he had some parasites. I think I'm beginning to realise I was naive and gullible with the breeder, she's no puppy farmer but she definitely isn't the best either. Never mind, my boy is healthier every day and his coat is glowing now.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 19/01/2012 10:20

Leg fine thanks! Eased off after a week or so. Luckily DH was around for a while so he could do the big walk each day and I did the shorter one.

Just looking at the dog now. He's licking his feet and legs grooming himself like a cat. He even had a lovely walk with a little Jack Doodle yesterday. They ignored each other completely and that's the way he seems to like it!

Sorry to hear about your pup, lost. I hope the antibiotics do the trick soon. He's with you now and having a lovely life so don't beat yourself up about the breeder. You'll never have to deal with her again and it's all about him now.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 20/01/2012 11:11

Oh lost, at least he is with you, who cares about him lots. A lot of people who buy puppies haven't the foggiest of how to look after them so the pups don't get their jabs, or taken to the vet if they're poorly. He's a lucky boy to have you!

I'm glad your leg's better betsy, what you did to it sounded painful! I'm assuming a jack doodle is small? I bet you were chuffed he didn't fancy chasing it :o

First proper walk today, we went to the beach and once he got into the dunes out of the wind had a great time, tired my boys out as well as they had to run to keep up with him on the lead! This dog lark is ace! He is loads better after the medicine too, no blood in poo is fantastic.

Glad your pointy didn't eat the other dog MissBetsey Grin I imagine that's one way to end a friendship fast.

Spaghetti, get yourself to the rehoming place ASAP, I never realised having a dog would be so brilliant. I have to say he is treated like a little prince Blush can't imagine anyone getting a dog and not being ready to look after it properly though. He starts school the week after next...

MissBetsyTrotwood · 21/01/2012 20:13

It's a Jack Russell/Poodle mix. He's tiny and young and just recovering from a nasty attack by a pair of Staffies. They punctured his lung and stomach and he nearly didn't make it. Sad

Owner not insured, a mix up with dates/payments... cost her nearly 3k.

I bet tiny loved the beach lost. Nothing like a dog for tiring boys out I find! I'm so pleased to hear he's so much better - it must be easier to relax and enjoy him even more now.

lostinwales · 21/01/2012 20:31

Oh no, poor little Jack Doodle , hideous Staffies, or should I say Staffie owners.

You're right, I find I'm relaxing and really, really enjoying my dog now I'm not so worried about him being ill. He's got the vets on Tuesday and I think he'll be going from underweight to me being given a stern lecture on not over feeding him Blush

MissBetsyTrotwood · 21/01/2012 20:46

Ask your vet's advice for what you tell the insurance about any existing health conditions. I nearly got caught out over this (it's a long and boring story, I won't go into details) but I think if it's that the dog's been ill in the last fortnight they won't insure them for that illness again? At the point in the call when they ask you about pre existing medical conditions/recent illnesses, just be really careful. Or just tell them he's been totally fine since you got him.

Our grey was nearly uninsurable for any gastrointestinal condition because I was honest with the call handler... All fine now but almost wasn't!

lostinwales · 21/01/2012 21:13

He came with four weeks of petplan so I can just continue with that no lead in times or anything. Good job because I am absolutely pants at lying.
