Share stories, advice and ask for help if you need it! There are a few resident hound experts (myself not included) in the doghouse, so, feel free to share! :)

Lock! Uck, I feel quite ill just thinking about it.

IG's look tiny, apparently they are a little nervous though and get even colder than whippets if that's even possible. I love the thought that they weigh the same as my puppy full grown though. Imagine a perfectly formed just miniature greyhound.

Blush I did nearly hit the curb earlier pointing at a beautiful dog and shouting 'look boys, look at that gorgeous greyhound' I didn't recognise the owner and now want to stalk up and down that area of the village until I meet them again.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 25/01/2012 20:38

Lock that link did end up working on my phone, and took me to the FB page of FinNy Perrett Confused but when I clicked it on my computer it went to the house collar lady! Confused Confused Confused

It's bloody infuriating to know that the perfect dog for us is living less than 10 minutes up the road. But we can't have him because twatting DP is being brindle prejudiced! Gah Angry

BehindLockNumberNine · 25/01/2012 20:44

Oooh how freaky spag... FinNy Perret is one of ds's school friends so perhaps things got a bit muddled for a wee while...

Either way, glad you found housecollars...

Is it Sox you are talking about? Dh definately not interested in going to see him??
Shame you are too far away from Celia Cross, they have some gorgeous houndies in at the moment...

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 25/01/2012 21:01

Weird Confused

Yes Sox, I'm going to try to persuade DP to go meet him at least. I'm getting tired of waiting.

OP posts:
lostinwales · 25/01/2012 21:03

I thought I didn't like brindle dogs but when I went to see Silver one time I nearly left with a brindle girl puppy in my pocket she was just so gorgeous. Has he been to see it?

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 25/01/2012 21:52

Well that didn't take me long at all!
Me : :(
DP : What's up?
Me : :( I want a dog, s'not fair! And what pisses me off is that our perfect dog is less than 10 minutes away and you don't want him because of his colour!
DP : Well have they got any more?
Me : A couple, but ones a girl, ones another brindle, and one that might possibly be bonkers as I think he could be the one that escaped and ran away on friday. Oh and Sox.
DP : Well we'd better go see him then hadn't we?

He'll make his bloody mind up one day. Hmm and they say us women change our minds too much!!

Cool, great work Spag!! Now phone rescue, book an appt to visit asap to meet Sox! Smile

lostinwales · 25/01/2012 22:45

Once he meets him it will be too late to think about preferred colours Grin, book the visit NOW! (I had a favourite colour, nothing like my beautiful beautiful boy)

Scuttlebutter · 26/01/2012 00:08

Lost, some suggestions for raw in a convenient form. The blocks and bags you can get at PAH are fine, we often use these and bulk order them from the mfrs directly - cheaper if you do a very big order. We got a freezer for the garage and fill that every two to three months. The other companies we've tried are Basil's which were excellent - they do a sort of raw sausage that you just slice and serve - brilliant (and a good mail order service) and I've also heard good things about Nature's Menu here. I would really have liked to have carried on with the Basil's but unfortunately with three very large grunds it simply wasn't affordable for us. Good luck!

NotMostPeople · 26/01/2012 12:38

Doh and I had romantic ideas that the dogster was an IG, but no I got carried away. I don't care really because he's a beauty. He's gone to the vets today for an x-ray on his leg (he's been limping) and they've kept him in - it's very quiet, I've mopped the floor and there are no footprints and I don't like it. I want him back.

BehindLockNumberNine · 26/01/2012 16:31

Notmost - would love to see a picture of your dog? Being a whippety lurcher owner myself (Sam on profile) I am always keen to see other whippety types Smile

Spag - I was never keen on brindles either but have met a few at Celia Cross I would have more than happily taken home...

And Sox looks soooo nice!! Have you rung them yet??

lostinwales · 26/01/2012 16:48

Thank you for those links Scuttle. I'll have a look out for second hand freezers to keep in the cellar. We've only got a small one and it is full of food for my two legged boys. Is PAH Pets at Home? If so I'll be near one on Monday so I will pop in and have a look, I live miles away from anywhere with shops!

I hope your dogster of unknown pointy origins is ok NotMost, I hardly ever needed to mop my floor until this time a month ago!

Do any of you wise dog owners have any advice on how to curb puppy nipping, I think he must have been a lot more poorly than we thought because he has about 3x the energy now and is developing some nasty habits. He really likes to nip at anything he can get near and has made the boys shout out a couple of times today. I've taught them to stand up, be still and boring but he still goes for their toes and just got my eldest boy a nasty nip on the ear. He starts puppy school on Tuesday, what can I do until then to keep him in check?

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 26/01/2012 22:24

Ok, I haven't rung them yet because me and DP never got chance to talk about when would be convenient to meet Sox, I just asked him again (when should I arrange it for?) and he sighed and said "Oh just get him then! I'm not going to win this am I? So you may aswell just have him. But I still want to meet him first!" :o

He'll just have to like or lump his colouring!

Victory is (near enough) ours. WOO HOOOO!

Lost I haven't a clue I'm afraid. Do a high pitched yelp when he does it?

OP posts:
Scuttlebutter · 26/01/2012 22:30

Oooh, Spag, that grund is tantalisingly close..... I don't think I can stand much more of this waiting. Grin

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 27/01/2012 02:01

I know scuttle, I think I'm going to explode if I have to wait much longer! My fingers are itching to go collar and PJ shopping! Oooh do you reckon I'd be able to measure him up when we meet him so I could order a few bits to arrive not much later than he does?

OP posts:
SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 27/01/2012 02:03

Hmph. Was about to say he's so close I can almost smell him, but then I realised it was actually DP I could smell Hmm smelly git.

OP posts:
Scuttlebutter · 27/01/2012 09:15

I think a little ahem, preliminary measuring would be very sensible, as of course you'll be wanting practical things like right size dog bed and so on.... and it is winter, so you don't want a poor, naked, shivering grund when out on walks. I would also be wanting to stock up on a few Yankee Candles (or scented device of choice) ready for the invasion of the satanic bottom, though it sounds as your DH is already providing some natural aromas Wink Grin

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 27/01/2012 09:59

I hear Sox is smaller than Robbie and the bed I got is big enough for him so it'll be big enough for Sox, handily the LGT womans son works in the petshop where I got it and he knows the dogs so he advised me :o

DP says he's not allowed PJs, as dogs don't need clothes and usually I'd agree, but virtually nekkid hounds are excused from that rule. I've found some fab farm print ones on ebay :o I'm going to have to try measuring him on the sly so DP doesn't notice :o

Ok I have bad news, and good news.

The bad news is, I rung up about Sox, and spoke to the ladys husband who said that there are people coming to look at Sox tonight, and they asked to see him specifically so it's pretty likely he'll go hime with them. He said that he would get Jill to ring me back later on tonight after they've left.

But

The good news is Jill just rang me back saying that yes, it's highly likely that they will take him. But, they have a pair of dogs coming in in the next couple of days that belonged to an old lady who had a stroke and is now in a nursing home, her family are looking after the dogs at the moment but they can't manage with them (4 altogether, they have rehomed 1, keeping 1 and the pair are being returned) Jill reckons the boy would be perfect for us, he has lived in a house for a couple of years and has been living with 2 really young children for ages, 1 of whom is autistic. She said she'll bring him straight over within the next week and then in a couple of weeks take him to their vets to have his teeth cleaned. And the best thing is, he's black, with a white front. The exact image I had in my head when I first came upon the idea of getting a grund!

I have a shortlist of names;-
Sprocket
Beano
Barney
Dino
Merlin
Dexter

Ok, please vote!
I think this might be him, right NN, colour and age.

BehindLockNumberNine · 27/01/2012 16:41

Woohoo! But... if he has lived in a home, won't he have a name that he is already used to??? We did not name Sam, they named him at Celia Cross and he was used to that name and responding to it so we did not change it...

BehindLockNumberNine · 27/01/2012 16:42

Can't log into that site, it says login required...

What is his current name, you may be wise to choose something that sounds similar?

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 27/01/2012 16:54

His name at the moment is Brett/Bert/Bertie, it's easy enough to change a dogs name really, there was a thread in The Doghouse about it a while ago which was handy to read. I'll see if I can find it.

OP posts:
BehindLockNumberNine · 27/01/2012 17:20

Oh don't change his name, Bert is a very cool name for a dog!! Also, it may be easy enough to change his name, but is it fair??

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 27/01/2012 17:36

Fair? What do you mean?
