New puppy thread part 2

Previous thread too big for more messages! Amazing we have any time at all to post.
Wyrdmother, hopefully his tummy will be sorted soon then. Pop finally firming up here (sorry!) so I'm almost confident we can buy a huge bag of food. We still haven't offered much in the way of treats, just his normal kibble. Will need something more exciting for recall off the lead!

First puppy class last night went well. Got a babysitter so DH and I could both go. Makes it expensive but I really want him to feel involved as he's quite good at letting me do everything (and I'm quite good at taking over!). We all enjoyed it and pup showed off his 'sit' and 'wait' beautifully. His lead walking, however...! Oh well, lots to work on anyway. The other two puppies were much older, I think they'd mixed a couple of classes as people were away. We can't go next week but there are some younger puppies starting then. He fell asleep in the car on the way home and slept all night! Had to force him out to the loo.

Not sure how to get out for lead practice this week. DH working lates then away for the weekend. I can't walk with pushchair or free toddler. She'll have to go on my back in a sling I suppose, but can't in this foul weather! Or I'll have to force myself to get up in the mornings before DD wakes up. Just couldn't this morning!

Pup jumping round the kitchen with kong in her mouth and chasing a ball. Great entertainment to watch!

She has quietened down with kids back in school.

Still thinks all children under 2years are puppies and also becomes a loud barking dog at puppy class (rarely barks at home) but is turning into a lovely dog :) (we won't mention the puddles in the house...)

Pisky, mine finds an empty plastic milk bottle great fun for a kitchen romp! A couple of bits of kibble inside and it keeps him happy for ages. He also thinks small children are puppies, particularly if they sit or lie down on the floor. They're more humanoid when standing, obviously! He didn't bark at puppy class - just did lots of manic leaping (and a little humping, which upset a prudish lady!).

Puppy class so far has all been on lead so just noisy. Will have to let dh do most tonight as struggling with broken arm. Have managed to teach pup "lie down" despite this - keep having to remind dh that he needs to do the positive reward thing (he struggles with this with the kids too..)

Finding pup good company now kids back in school.

Cocker spaniel.

Think many DH are the same... Can't complain though as he is doing most things for me at the moment. Sods law it was my right hand I broke :(

Wondering wether to send him, pup and kids tonight and stay home to cook dinner, if I can think of anything one handed I could cook...

Oh yes, bit smaller than mine then, but no doubt just as bouncy! I'd say takeaway fish and chips is pretty one handed, but I guess you can't do that for a month!

belinda, I thought yours was a border, might be getikng confused though, lack of sleep will do that to a person.
Eric is sleeping through now so we are all in a really good mood here. enjoying the dogs now the kids are back at school. Eric is so easy to train compared with cherry as a puppy. can see this is going to be very rewarding, was talking to my agility trainer last night and he was saying that working cockers make very good agility dogs so i am really looking forward to when he is older.

got a pile of new toys today as they have killed everything available from my local pet shop, they have been having a whale of a time, eric brings me a ball back to throw again which is lovely, cherry runs after it once and then you have to play tug for 30mins to get it back to throw again.

Pisky and belinda how old are yours? Eric is coming up for 10 weeks cant believe he has been here nearly 2 weeks already, still cant wait till I can take him out. been doing tiny trips in the car to try nd get him used to it.

No, he's a springer. Used to have a border at home- may have mentioned that on the old thread. Milo is 15/16 weeks. We've had him for 4 weeks now I think. I need to practise the car too. He loves sitting on my lap while DH drives, but that's not really practical all the time!

We managed a 'walk' with DD in the sling! Well, didn't actually go anywhere as the trainer advised turning round every time he pulls. But we got out, at least! He managed to 'leave' DD's wellies every time she kicked them off. Raining again now, so glad I made be most of the few minutes it stopped.

Pup is 15weeks (I think!)

Also planning on agility when she is old enough.

Sending DD and DH to puppy class tonight - DS has opted to help me cook dinner (food being his obsession!)

I think I'd like agility too. But I'll concentrate on getting him to walk first!

Ooh great an new thread. I don't post much but I lurk religiously.

Our poor pup had her foot broken yesterday Sad. She is being very brave, and scooting around on her peg leg today, but finding it knackering.

I don't know how long she's going to need to heal. Back to the vets on Friday for a further xray and repacking.

I have every sympathy for your pup word - my wrist is currently broken and in plaster and I'm not liking it!

If its like humans, the younger they are the quicker they heal.

I've read through the big old thread and thought I'd join in with this one. We have 9 week old golden retriever called Barney. We have had him for 10 days now and we went to our first puppy party this evening. It all went well and Barney loved playing with the other puppies, even though he was the biggest one there.

Hello Kidsandpets! Well done on reading the whole thread, I haven't managed that as I joined near the end.

As its so long, maybe it's worth us all saying again how old our pups are, and where we are at?

I have a 13 week old (today!) Springer Spaniel, who we have had for 3 weeks today. Toilet training going well, training so so, cries whenever I go out of sight Hmm

We had our first puppy class last night, it was split between the bigger dogs (2 springers, 1 lab, 1 husky sort, and 1 which I think was a staffie cross, and the little balls of fluff which all looked the same but different colours lol). They were kept carefully segregated, and not allowed to mix in case of accidents Grin

kidsandpets, goldens are gorgeous, bet he is beautiful.
I have eric a 10 week old (tom) working cocker spaniel, house training going quite well, only a couple of accidents a day. basic training great, we do sit and lie down and come. settleing ok when I leave him now. playing constantly.
We also have Cherry an 18mnth old border terrier who is the best dog ever.

Thanks all for the sympathy.

The accident was just one of those ridiculous things. Our nearest neighbour is a big dog lover (has three of her own, plus she looks after other people's dogs when they're on holiday, plus she sometimes has foster dogs) and we often see her crossing our land with her pack. Anway we met her on our walk with pup. Pup was happy and frolicking with hers and jumped under the neighbour's foot...cue every toe broken in her right front paw.

I don't know who cried the hardest, pup or the neighbour.

omg, that is my worst nightmare, my dogs ar always legging me up, so far managed to avoid actually treading on them.

Hope he feels better soon.

Oh word so sorry to hear about your pup Sad

My pup is 27 weeks yesterday and coming along very well. We took her on holiday last week to the new forest and she was very very good. Only slight problem was the waking up early as she was in a new place, plus she was very clingy. As there were 10 -14 of us staying between two lodges she had constant attention which has taken us 4 days to bring her back down from. Luckily my daughter has gone back to school today so the house is back to it's normal quiet way of life whilst I work and pup sleeps, mooches and amuses herself with her toys.

I took her out this morning and started some running much to her amusement! Rabbit holes I am becoming much more aware of and have bought her a long line for particularly rabbity areas. Other than that she is a poppet! eating like a horse at the moment so expecting a growth spurt!

Good idea to start a new thread! Our rescue pup is around 16 weeks old and has been with us for 7 weeks. No idea what mum and dad were but Oscar is black and white - more or less border collie colouring - with spaniel ears, so possibly a sprollie. We are slightly anxious about how big he might end up, as he's 11 kilos already. I'd be grateful to know how heavy other 'known breed' dogs are at this age.

He is very good at night and happy in his crate whenever necessary. Just started barking at everyone and everything which goes past the garden and I have no idea how to stop this.......

MotherofGirls - I think I posted once before with you about dogs weight - our springer spaniel pup is a small little thing as she is only about 6ish kg and she is 5 months!

Anyone else with a springer who is going made chasing leaves? She is charging round the garden either with a leaf in her mouth or rushing off to try and catch one, tail wagging like a loon. She is like it on walks too and she is so focussed on them it makes it hard to get her attention - even liver cake doesn't always refocus her! She sometimes jerks my arm really hard if she tries to dash for one.

I have a springer Alp, but mine is a chunkey monkey! There was another springer in puppy class who was half his size, with only a weeks difference in age Shock
He does not like leaves much, he spends his time following scents. His nose doesn't leave the ground unless there is another pooch about to play with.

Mmm I think I have a leggy skinny one! She does always sniff which makes me think shes always about to do a wee!

She's just walked in with a leaf in her mouth!

We have a kind of palm tree in the garden with long thin leaves that die off easily. Our springer loves tugging them and running madly about. Also loves the herb garden. Bubbles are brilliant for chasing about too.
