Today whist out for a walk...a dog owner was yelling for her dog in the park. At speed a Jack Russell called....Shackleton...comes flying out of some bushes.

Big name, small dog! IMO Brilliant Grin

We have snoop dogg and shakira thanks to my daughter!!!I feel bloody silly calling them

LtEveDallas · 10/08/2011 06:58

I knew a cat called Paddington Bear, a dog called Brian, and a dog called Jem whose full name was Jemima Puddle Dog.

Outing myself here but my MIL has cats called Swnan and Twp (Soo-nan and Tup) which mean moaner and stupid in Welsh. My cat is going to be called Pwscod (pus-cod) which means Fish. I think a cat called fish is a great idea!

QuietTiger · 10/08/2011 09:05

We have a big black cat called "Frank". It suits him. :)

aquos · 10/08/2011 09:14

I met a dog yesterday called Marmite.

aliceliddell · 10/08/2011 16:03

Friends have Ken, Helen, Andy, Brian (cats). We had Janet, sharon (died) and now Neville (female)

jenrendo · 10/08/2011 16:07

Google the cocker spaniel. And Kevin, the mongrel :)

tooearlytobeup · 10/08/2011 19:36

I made the mistake once of telling my children they could choose the name of their new rabbit themselves. I am grateful every day that SuperBunny-Rainbow (the name they agreed on!) did not have to pay a visit to the vet. Can you imagine the embarassment of waiting to be called Grin

CalamityKate · 11/08/2011 16:09

I've got an aversion to "Deefer".

I've met a couple, and you ask what the dog's name is and the owner goes "Deefer!" and then looks at you expectantly, obviously waiting for you to ask why, so that they can triumphantly explain that it's because "Deefer Dog! Get it? Get it?", hoping you'll go "Ooohhhhh! Clever!!" all impressed-like at their wit.

Except, yeah, the FIRST person EVER to call their dog "Deefer" was being quite witty - the rest are just being try-hard-y and unimaginative.

I mean if someone told you their newborn was called "Beefer" you'd just think they were stupid, wouldn't you?

UpsyDaisyDo · 11/08/2011 16:48

Colleague has a cat called Mouse! Grin

snigger · 12/08/2011 18:38

DH knew of a legendarily irked dog called Grip .... apparently quite apt.

Ours are Reiver (border terrier) and we once had a Rhodesian Ridgeback called Rooibos.

GeetTallBird · 12/08/2011 18:39

DH's cousin named his dog Devo. It's a whippet.

(I still giggle about it.)

MarinaIvy · 13/08/2011 10:51

My partner and his ex-wife gave their big, black, dumb-as-a-brick dog an interesting name.

Well, if you're a Pagan with a weird sense of humour, stuck in rural Ireland, yelling "Beelzebub!" down your back garden, thereby scarinng the crap out of your neighbours makes for a good larf.

CalamityKate · 13/08/2011 11:24

goblynn I don't get it Blush

MarinaIvy · 13/08/2011 11:31

Calamity Devo is a band from the early 80s, who's best-known song is "Whip It" - you've probably heard it, even if you don't know you have. Do a YouTube or something - enjoy!

CalamityKate · 13/08/2011 11:33

Oh! Grin

CalamityKate · 13/08/2011 11:35

Youtubed it. Never heard of them, or the song! And the 80's are "my" era!

peeriebear · 13/08/2011 11:43

My friend has a beautiful part- wolf cross called Lupin.
My dog has a very very common dog name (he was a rescue) but my old rabbit was called Dr Evil. She was a sneaky rescue (from the garden of a policewoman!!) and did not like people at all; she lived outdoors in my garden mostly and only mellowed in old age (and was then cranky from infirmities).
My cat (Moomin) has a sister who belongs to my friend up the road; said cats name is Checkers leBonbon :o

CalamityKate · 13/08/2011 11:55

Lupin is a BRILLIANT name, but I highly doubt it's really part wolf Grin

Shoutymomma · 13/08/2011 13:01

I always wanted to get a whippet and call it Devo! I'd have made it a little flower pot hat for special occasions. (Ours whippet is called Cobi, named by his original humans.)
This week we met a dog called Rigsby - genius!

I've a girlfriend whose cat Fif has the full name Fifi Von Slutwhiskers. We also have old friends with a ginger tom called Mr Paul Scholes - Scholesy at home, but funny at the vet.

MarinaIvy · 13/08/2011 13:20

LOL @ shouty "... for special occasions" - what was Devo going to wear for everyday? one wonders...

mum47 · 13/08/2011 15:34

A mongrel alled Eric, and a huge wiry grey thing called Gladys!
