Today whist out for a walk...a dog owner was yelling for her dog in the park. At speed a Jack Russell called....Shackleton...comes flying out of some bushes.

Big name, small dog! IMO Brilliant Grin

Oh, and when I was young our next door neighbours dog was called Scargill, but Scargill's vet insisted in calling him Arthur! (during the miners strike, and living in a mining village) which I thought was Hmm

I really like Dillon for a dog... there's a westie in the village called Dillon, suits him perfectly.
We used to have cats called Digger and Dumper (chosen by the dc) ok, until they were separate. I always used to cringe taking Dumper to the vet.

I used to have a terrier mongrel called Heinz, as in 57 varieties. Cue evening stroll on the beach one summer, and a confused German tourist.. Heinz had a son who I named Hamish, because he reminded me of a previous boyfriend, being small, fat, and hairy.

I used to have a pom called Mr Fluffy... My roidhead ex boyfriend used to refuse to call him by his real name on walks. Borderline dog/boyfriend abuse. Grin

My long haired white GSD is called Fish. Don't blame me, blame his previous owner! He has a real name (Nico) but when he was a pup would eat only fish so to get him to recall his owner would call, "Look what I've got! Fish! Fish!" and so guess what he came running to?

When he arrived in rescue they discovered that he was far more responsive to Fish than Nico so it stuck.

That rescue also has, amongst about 60 others:

Spanky the nutty wire haired JRT.
Eric the greyhound.
Crumpet the Lab.
Scanner the staffie.
Dizzy the Shep X.
Ralph the retriever
Pogo the Lurcher/Lab
and have just homed Toe, another Staffie.

Best name for dog?

Winston Churchill named his second black poodle Rufus II, after his first, who was called Rufus. He always said the "II" was silent.

My dog does actually answer to Smelly - it's not his real name though but "come here Smell" gets a response.
