There's a possible suitable hound in the rescue!

(Well she was at the vets yesterday being speyed)
From what I gather (hubby was the one who made the phonecall) - she's come from a yard with cats, passed cat testing and is a really sweet little black girlie... and they'll ring us probably into next week to go meet her when she's settled down and they've got their own measure of her!

Sooooo excited - would love them to ring earlier so we could go meet Mrs Houndette!

Sooo... if people look like their dogs - does getting a grey mean I automatically become a sleek, slender, supermodel athlete?! (Rather than a shaggy farting mess?!)

We have our homecheck this afternoon - whilst we wanted a greyhound we have fallen in love with a little lurcher boy (and I hope to god we don't look like our dogs, Sam has huge (and I mean huge!) ears.....)

But I have a bike lead now, so I will be sleek and gracefull never

Good luck emptyshell. I don't know where abouts you are, but if it doesn't work for any reason I have a cat tested, dog friendly, caged bird tested, child tested grey here, who needs a forever home, but you'd need to be around the NE.

That's fantastic news. Really exciting!

We have three greyhounds. All are lean, tall, elegant and look like supermodels, with exquisite noses and legs that go on for ever. I am short, fat and dumpy and not even DH would describe me as "elegant". Sometimes I am asked if I have broken my nose (I haven't!) and I was behind the door when they were handing out cheekbones. So, sadly, it's not an infallible theory. Though of course Dooin is about to prove me wrong.

OOOOOHHHH!!! Fingers crossed very tightly for you here. :)

I have, as you know, a beautiful, noble-looking long haired champagne blonde GSD.

And I too am blonde.

My hairdresser does a bloody good job of returning it to my pre-illness, pre-treatment colour. :o

Sadly the comparison stops there. :)

Now, my black Lab cross is getting on in years, going white around the edges and becoming more pigheaded with age. That I can identify with!

20 years ago i may have resembled my athletic dogs. sadly there is not an ounce of resemblance now!

scuttle that's so weird; I've always imagined you as being very tall and rangy, and it's just dawned on me that I've been imagining you as a human greyhound. Doh. Also I've pictured Mme Lindt ss small and grey-haired... because of her dachshund.

Disclaimer: I have invested heavily in anti-wrinkle creams; I have hounds.

Nope, they changed their minds and took another dog instead. She isn't on their site yet as she is still slightly underweight, but they're going to be doing a video with her soon to put on there and try and find her a home. In the meantime she can stay here as long as she needs to. She is a lovely dog.

Yes they took another grey afaik. She is good with the cat, we had a few 'wobbles' where she barked at him, but it was friendly play, she didn't want to hurt him she just wanted him to come out so she could see what he was.

She is good with other dogs. Very gentle with children. Sleeps a lot like a most greyhounds do . She walks well on her lead unless she sees another dog and then she starts pulling to say hello, but she can be distracted from this simply by saying her name and telling her she is good. Her recall is good in our gated alley, but I've not tested her in open space yet.

She is house trained. I would say her only 'problem' is that due to a bad start in life she doesn't like being left alone, so would need someone around most of the time. She doesn't settle well on her own so we let her sleep in our room, but she is very good in there and lays down on her own bed and stays there untill someone eventually manages to convince her to get up

I wish I looked like my husky. He turns heads everywhere. (though sometimes for the wrong reasons. Yesterday we had a chorus of kids shouting 'look - there's a wolf!' At least I don't look like a big bad wolf).

Dooin, the grey sounds wonderful. I hope she finds a home soon.

I have a short fat and old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I am, however, nearly 6'. That's really all I can say in my defence.

Wildfig, in my head I am! Inside I am a combo of Eowyn from LOTR and Brunnhilde from the Ring Cycle (but not blonde). This works brilliantly until I get sight of myself in a shop window and think "Oh, it's a fat hobbit wearing my top!" In my pre cancer, younger days I was considerably more svelte.

However, DH is tall, leggy, dark and runs fast. So maybe the theory is right after all. He can also fart like a greyhound.

at the wolf husky. A little boy saw our big golden retriever boy swimming in the river of the local woods and yelled to his mum that there was a polar bear in the water! Very excited he was too.

Dooin, I am a SAHM in the NE and think your greyhound foster girl looks gorgeous. I'm tempted to have The Conversation with DH about a pal for our boy but I'm just a bit concerned that our household is just too noisy and overwhelming (three dc under 7). The golden retriever is fine with it all but I do think he's particularly placid and accommodating.

Sorry for hijacking emptyshell - hope everything works out for you and the lucky dog!

Betty I have two other dogs and a cat, a 3yo, a 7yo and on occassions a fourth dog. My house is most definitely not quiet and the grey is fine here

She is a really lovely dog and I'd love to see her settled in her permanant home. I can't afford to insure a third dog or I am sure DH would insist we keep her and he is the one who doesn't like dogs. Even my Gran who detests dogs made a point of saying what a lovely dog she is.

Now it turns out the hound isn't even YET in the rescue - getting so fed up with getting different versions of events and just feeling incredibly fobbed off.

Way things are going we're going to end up heading to the local fucking pound and picking up anything at this rate cos we've been waiting months here.

Severely pissed off.

Oh now it's "we've got X in"... but their website says "not cat friendly"...

Am I being unreasonable (sorry but I ain't going over there with dog stuff) to be pissed off at getting the run around from a rescue for over 2 months now?!

I'm actually crying with frustration here.

emptyshell - stick with it. hopefully soon you will have a dog that you will have many happy years with

if they have told you that a particular dog is ok with cats but their website says differently it may be because when they last updated website dog wasnt cat assessed and noone (usually volunteers) has had time to update website

Waiting for a promised call-back (I doubt they will) but there's NO way a dog that's stated as not cat-friendly is getting a paw across the threshold here - I owe that to the 10 year old cantankerous furball. Normally they don't put the cat status on the website till they've tested them so either they've got a second dog in with the same name at the moment - or they're just bullshitting me.

Really pissed off - I contacted them the start of MAY about this stuff - waited patiently while they pratted me about with the homecheck for a month... waited again with promises that cat-workable hounds were on their way in... waited the last fortnight for this dog that was going into the rescue this week (that now it turns out hasn't gone in at all yet). We're trying to plan out going away end-August (and taking the dogs) but obviously want new one settled by then and it's not even looking like we'll HAVE a dog by then at all.

I swear - if the pound had any suitable dog in right now I'd just go there I'm so fucked off. Just sick of being lied to and fobbed off. This is like one of the big breed rescues as well. I'd go elsewhere but then we'll be waiting again for homechecks and the whole shebang again - it's just not fucking fair - waiting and looking forward to getting this second dog's kept me going through feeling really really bad the last month or so when stuff's caught up with me again - but yet again, I'm allowed nothing in my life to look foward to.

Oh FFS - now it turns out the dog in question is much much older than we'd said we were looking at (meaning problems with insurance and all sorts). We're just being completely fucked about here aren't we?

Where abouts are you Emptyshell? Maybe we could suggest a more oragnised greyhound rescue for you. It does sound like this one is not quite sure whether it is coming or going, which is a big shame for the dogs, but it's not fair to build up your hopes and then let you repeatedly.

i dont know. highly likely the rescue are overstretched and communications may have suffered.

scuttle offered on a previous thread for you to pm her as she is involved with a lot of grey rescues. maybe pm her for advice?
