Do you call yourself 'mummy'?

Just a light-hearted thread really. I was on my phone to Shiney recently while walking the dogs through the park. The puppy was trailing behind and I found myself calling her, "Pickle! Pickle! Come to mummy!"...

I can't tell you how much she ripped the piss out of me, but I had never given a moment's thought to the idea that I possibly sound like a complete lunatic.

So- what is the consensus?

multitask · 24/06/2011 22:17

of course.. doesn't everyone?

BitOfFun · 24/06/2011 22:19

Apparently not...but your replies are making me feel less daft, so thank you Grin

KnickersOnOnesHead · 24/06/2011 22:36

Mummy here too!

WherecanIhide · 24/06/2011 22:41

Yep, I'm 'mummy' and they are my 'girls' (I am aware they are dogs not humans Grin )

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 24/06/2011 22:56

We are 'mummy' and 'daddy' but the DC still call us that so we kind of refer to each other as that in front of them any way. So that's how I justify it Grin

Tuggy · 24/06/2011 23:18

Yup mummy and daddy. What else would we be?!

Avantia · 25/06/2011 08:35

Avantia · 25/06/2011 08:37

MindyMacready · 25/06/2011 08:43

Pudding2be · 25/06/2011 09:05

We are mum and dad, our parents and siblings are gran and grandad, aunty and uncle etc.

Yes I am a bit bonkers but I don't care lol Grin

OnlyWantsOne · 25/06/2011 09:10

My lab is like one of my children. I'm mummy. DP isn't daddy though

He would be very Hmm

mumatron · 25/06/2011 09:14

oh yes. dp looks at me like I'm insane when i refer to him as Daddy though.

the dc are the dogs brother and sisters too.

Tortoise · 25/06/2011 09:17

No but I do call them my baby.Blush

ImeldaM · 25/06/2011 09:17

Definitely, DP is Daddy too Grin

DooinMeCleanin · 25/06/2011 09:18

Dh does. I don't. For once I am the sensible one. Although DH also very much believes that 'poppy woppy baby waby' aka the whippy one is his third child and she is very much treated like his third child, right down to being nursed to sleep in his arms while he sings her soothing lullabys Hmm

This is the dog he made me promise faithfully would only stay a few days as we can't have two dogs Grin

follyfoot · 25/06/2011 09:19

Yep we are Mum and Dad, and the lovely lady at hydrotherapy is Auntie Sue Blush

MumblingRagDoll · 25/06/2011 09:28

I try and avoid it with the animals but I do think it....DH calls EVERY dog's owner his "Dad" or his "Mum".....we see a nice dog in the park and DH is all "Ah look...he's waiting for his Dad."

I never call myself Mum to the dog, you are all bonkers!

memphis83 · 25/06/2011 09:35

yes!! I was going for a walk yesterday and there was an elderly man helping resurface the path and their dog was in the van, the mans wife went to van and said 'Ok sweetie you be a good girl for your Daddy, and Mummy will cook you a nice lunch for your return!!' It made me feel very normal!

Hullygully · 25/06/2011 09:36

Yep, Mummy to the dog, which is weird cos I'm Hully to the dc.

shineoncrazydiam0nd · 25/06/2011 09:43

Far worse is when she is here and absolutely HAS to call her fella. Cue much eye rolling from me as she puts on a daft voice and they say ' Hi Baybeeee, luffs yewwww ' to each other - every hour or so Grin

I will say 'Give it to Mummy' to my 4 year old and ' give it to me ' to my 13 year old...

To the puppy? ' GET THE FUCK OFF THAT'

Summersoon · 25/06/2011 13:26

I use Mummy with the guinea-pig Blush

Sorry, I know this is a dog thread Blush
