I know this is going to sound strange, but I have a four yr old dog that I love to pieces, Bamboo Warrior, but I just can't look after her it any more. I find the whole thing of long walks EVERY day, hair, fleas, mud, slobber, expensive food, vets bills, pet passport, insurance etc just too much to cope with. It's driving me mad.

Now, I'm thinking that no one will be able to look after Bamboo as she should be looked after, no one will be good enough for my doggy, so wouldn't it be better to have go to sleep after a perfect four years than undergo a few more years of inferior quality life?

I can't help but think it's for the best.

WHAT? I don't mean to shout but this is a joke right!

You are not able to look after your dog yet you think noone else can? Believe me there are loads of people capable of looking after a dog and you definately should not kill a healthy dog just because you are fed up with looking after it.

It is your duty and obligation to rehome your dog. If you need help doing this there are posters on Mumsnet who have contacts with rescue and rehoming centres (Val?) If she cannot help get back to me and I will certainly help find a kind caring home for you poor dog. She does not deserve to die

giyadas · 26/01/2011 15:20

yes it's yet another of those stupid dare threads from chat. Ignore.

minimu1 · 26/01/2011 15:28

glad to hear it! Giyadas now what can we do in Chat Grin

MaybeTomorrow · 26/01/2011 15:30

Thank goodness for that. I was start a really serious thread about how I was struggling to cope, came on, read the first part of this and thought, 'I can sympathise with some of this' and then read the last part! Shock

I'll go back to preparing my thread now...

Ephiny · 26/01/2011 15:33

The sad thing is this sort of thing really does happen...I know a rescue who recently took in a dog because the owners had taken him to the vet and asked for him to be PTS as they were moving abroad and didn't want the bother and expense of taking him with them. The vet refused as there was no medical reason for it, they walked out and abandoned the dog there :( Unbelievable but it does happen...

SecretNutellaFix · 26/01/2011 15:35

I'm sorry, but even though this might be a joke thread I certainly don't see it as very amusing.

What you are considering is the worst decision a responsible dog owner has to make when their beloved pet is too ill and in too much pain to cope with living any more.
Which we (my mother and I) had to make 3 months ago, and you know what- I still cry about her every day. PLenty of other dog owners are also asking the right questions about end of life for their much loved animals.

What a foul, misguided, horrendous excuse for a joke. NOw, pardon me when I tell you to FUCK OFF!

MaybeTomorrow · 26/01/2011 15:35

That is so incredibly sad... Sad

giyadas · 26/01/2011 15:36

minimu1 grin]
they have threads all over the place, but this one seemed a bit ott, so had to say something.
Don't really see the point of invading your own forum though, there's enough trolls doing that already.

Scuttlebutter · 26/01/2011 16:32

Oh FFS. I'm sure I'm not the only person on here who does rescue and has met enough REAL people like this not to find this even remotely funny. Perhaps we should start a joke thread about child abuse. Hmm

wannaBe · 26/01/2011 16:43

what is this dare thread and why has it not been deleted?

There was a similar thing a few years ago which was eventually pulled as it caused so much upset/anger etc.

fwiw I know someone who has twice had dogs put to sleep when moving abroad. Angry Sad

Ephiny · 26/01/2011 16:49

I agree, not funny at all, not when this actually does happen all too often (like the case I mentioned above: that poor dog fortunately has found a loving home now, thanks to the rescue who took him in, but many more are not so lucky). It's an absolute disgrace and a tragedy the way dogs are abandoned and killed because the owners can't be bothered and I really struggle to see any humour in it myself.

Vallhala · 26/01/2011 18:24

"Oh FFS. I'm sure I'm not the only person on here who does rescue and has met enough REAL people like this not to find this even remotely funny. Perhaps we should start a joke thread about child abuse."

I can't top that.

Oh... hang on a moment... yes I can.

difficultdoggydecision, you're one sick excuse for a human being. Now fuck off.

RunawayFishWife · 26/01/2011 19:00

Are you mad???? You want to put a healthy dog down because you can not be bothered with it any more????

Or you are posting this as a joke???

Very funny, just shows what a sad little fuckwit you are.

Go get yourself put down you sick bitch

MotherJack · 26/01/2011 20:01

This particular beauty was from Hullygully if anyone is interested who...

"...thought it was jolly funny"

Hullygully · 26/01/2011 20:48

Oh fuck off. What is this, go and sneak to teacher time? FFS.

Yes, I did find it amusing. It was clearly a joke as Minimu noticed at the outset. I have dogs, I love dogs. It was satirical.

I will not engage further.

MotherJack · 26/01/2011 21:32

I think you not engaging further is a really good idea, Hully, although I would doubt anyone posting that in the name of humour was engaged before.

Sneak to the teacher? You posted it on the internet FFS. Grow up.

Satirical? No. Stupid and unfunny? Yes.

MotherJack · 26/01/2011 23:35

Lara - there are two people I know who are active in dog rescue on this thread and I am 100% certain they would not post a "humorous" thread on child abuse because someone had dared them to in some desperate attempt at recognition of being funny. It was an attempt at analogy to make others realise how unfunny this thread was/is.

Vallhala · 27/01/2011 00:14

One of those people will be me then, Lara.

A thread on killing a healthy animal is comparable with a thread on child abuse insofar as it is just as hilarious.

MotherJack · 27/01/2011 00:27

That's the point, Lara - this thread is in poor taste. It's a shame that the OP hasn't the grace to accept that. You wouldn't take your child to the doctors to be put down because they were a hindrance to your life, yet people really do do this kind of stuff to dogs, and unfortunately much worse.

I doubt anyone on this thread would put their dogs above their children.

I knew it was a troll type post, that's why I outed it at the start, to avoid this type of argument.
I'm not defending it, but there were many threads they started. Yes, they were very self indulgent, boring and unfunny, but it was a joke that got out of hand.
I reported the whole 'dare' thread to MN, but they decided to let it stand. Complain to them.
Hully, while obviously responsible, was egged on by other MNers and it all got out of hand.
This thread should be deleted and forgotten.

YeahBut · 27/01/2011 01:21

Oh, FGS, how childish and stupid.
