Send your questions to The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan

Great news for all those in The Dog House. We've been given the opportunity to send our canine questions to none other than the Dog Whisperer himself, Cesar Millan. Cesar is over in the UK to promote his forthcoming new series of the UK version of 'The Dog Whisperer' which will be aired in UK on Nat Geo Wild in early February 2011. We'll be filming some members of Mumsnet HQ (plus dogs) putting your questions to Cesar in January and we will be airing the film across the site at the end of January, to coincide with the launch of his new series. To stand a chance of getting your question to Cesar, post them to this thread before end of Tuesday 21st December 2010.

on the show he said he doesn't like the collars but wanted to respect the owners way etc. he doesn't use them for the dogs he rescues - i'm pretty sure he uses a one dollar piece of string and the dogs just walk next to him anyway cos they lurve him too. plain to see. dogs often extremely thankful!

scottishmummy · 21/12/2010 13:03

sorry dont follow.you think he wonderful or not

scottishmummy · 21/12/2010 13:05

how do you appease yourself about his unorthodox methods and cruelty ruby. do you think means justify ends. why then do so many people criticise his methods?

Bella32 · 21/12/2010 13:06

'Thankful' dogs, Ruby? Who's anthropomorphising now??

scottishmummy · 21/12/2010 13:07

dogs look alarmed and scared, not thankful at all

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 13:07

"on the show he said he doesn't like the collars but wanted to respect the owners way"

i quoted from hi book 'be the pack leader' earlier but maybe you missed it.

"when people ask me whether or not i support e-collars, i would have to say yes."

page 109.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 13:08

how can a dog look thankful? Confused

midori1999 · 21/12/2010 13:10

"on the show he said he doesn't like the collars but wanted to respect the owners way etc"

So, he doesn't respect the owners way of day to day dealing with their dogs, because he can see it's a problem, so why respect their use of something he doesn't agree with?

Perhaps Minimi (as a qualified behaviourist)would be so kind as to explain what she would do if she had an appointment with a client who was using an e-collar?

Ruby, do the dogs in the following link look happy to you?

RubyBuckleberry · 21/12/2010 13:12

haven't read the book. just seen the show. fair enough iloveitwhenyoucallmeboo

i think he wonderful.

there was this boxer that was going to be put down for charging the gate of the owner's house. no one could stop him. cesar milan stopped him in minutes. the boxer looked pretty thankful to me. in fact he looked in lurve with cesar.

lots of people criticise his methods as they go against the grain i guess. don't know. don't feel need to appease myself. i think he's great!

for me some dogs are like teenagers. they need someone to take them in hand and set some boundaries. someone who is not scared. cm is that man. IMO.

RubyBuckleberry · 21/12/2010 13:14

i saw the jonbee one. that dog was a nutbar! cm sorted him out. i know nothing about the training side of things really so you'll probably shout at me but from here it looked like he helped him.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 13:14

"cesar milan stopped him in minutes"

no, the show was edited to make it appear that only minutes had lapsed. are you really thsi naive.

teh fact that you are using the word 'lurve' when describing how teh dogs feel about cesar is laughable and really discredits your opinion tbh.

RubyBuckleberry · 21/12/2010 13:15

lol

RubyBuckleberry · 21/12/2010 13:16

anyway, the boxer looked pretty happy to be with cesar and he was saved from the glue factory so...

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 13:16

"for me some dogs are like teenagers. they need someone to take them in hand and set some boundaries. someone who is not scared. cm is that man. IMO."

"i know nothing about the training side of things really "

again, you totally discredit yourself.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 13:17

ok, i can see you have absoloutely no clue about any of this so i won't engage further.

RubyBuckleberry · 21/12/2010 13:19

i don't really care that you think i discredit myself. i am stating my opinion. you are discussing my use of the word lurve. shrug.

RubyBuckleberry · 21/12/2010 13:19

Hmm arrogant, much.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 13:21

no not really. i just have at least vague grasp of the topic being discussed.

midori1999 · 21/12/2010 13:21

Jonbee was later rehomed.

There is no excuse to hang a dog by it's neck, not ever. The fact is, CM is not the only person capable of dealing with these dogs and there are far more suitable ways of dealing with them.

Did you see the links further back where CM and Sophia Yin are both dealing with similar problems in different dogs (aversions to grooming)? Can you honestly say the dog CM is dealig with looks happiest? It was so upset it felt it had to resort to biting him, something that often happens with dogs CM deals with.

Here are the links in case you missed them:

Well, so far we have those who are against the idea of having that vile man on MN, including, to the best of my knowledge, all those regular MNers who are vets, vet nurses, behaviouralists, respected breeders and rescuers who have expressed an opinion either way.

Then we have the small minority who "lurve" the vile man but who either confess to having or appear to have little or no experience of dog welfare or training.

Go figure, as they say across the pond.

RubyBuckleberry · 21/12/2010 13:26

'The fact is, CM is not the only person capable of dealing with these dogs and there are far more suitable ways of dealing with them.'

that is just the point. he is often a last resort.

this thread is a bit uppity actually. i think the man himself will enjoy reading it. i am stating an opinion based on endless watching of the show and quite obviously healthy happy dogs that clearly adore their number one man. not the most academic opinion i grant you but valid nonetheless. i don't really mind that a few of you have jumped on the bandwagon of some official organisations and are earnestly spouting 'the official line'. i say what i see and i think he is fab. (there is another bit of dodgy word use for you iloveitwhen.) anyway, i shall leave you to it.

Almost as scary as the prospect of my beloved MN giving houseroom to this man is the number of people who refuse to doubt his credibility because they've seen him do such and such on tv - people have no grasp of editing. It's shit that a PR team and some snip-happy backroom staff can allow a charlatan like Millan to make his fortune off the back of heavy-handed and aversive tactics

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 13:30

"i say what i see "

what you see has been heavily edited. it isn't the full story. he cuts out the bits he knows people don't agree with and makes it look liek he is a miracle worker when in fact he has terrified teh dogs to a trance liek state where they have given up all efforts at trying to resist.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 21/12/2010 13:33

and it's 'sayonara'
