TBH, I've never seen this.

Is it like Wife Swap?

Its compelling viewing but I find it very patronising.

expatinscotland · 13/05/2010 21:09

It's like they ask the DM to find the poor candidate.

And is it ever a working poor family? Or is it just to make people on benefits look bad?

OP posts:
poshtottie · 13/05/2010 21:10

Exactly.

expatinscotland · 13/05/2010 21:11

I can see how this is going.

Just started watching, missed how the rich couple made their money, does anyone know?

GFatemybaby · 13/05/2010 21:12

I can't bear it anymore. I feel that it's just too voveuristic now.

poshtottie · 13/05/2010 21:12

He sold his insurance company I think for around 20 million.

RunawayWife · 13/05/2010 21:12

Wow, I feel so sorry for those children having to live in that mess.

Look at the state of the garden!!

kissyfurschaos · 13/05/2010 21:13

dad used to own an insurance company, sold it for 20 million!

RunawayWife · 13/05/2010 21:13

I can see why that little boy does not want to go home after school.

poshtottie · 13/05/2010 21:14

I grew up fairly poor but my mum kept the house spotless.

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 13/05/2010 21:14

Thanks poshtottie.

expatinscotland · 13/05/2010 21:18

Snap, posh. My dad grew up very poor but that house was always spotless and his mother, a Mayan Indian, grew a lot of food for them in the back garden.

Their dad always worked, usually as a carpenter, but at whatever brought in pennies.

All the kids worked, too, teh girls helped their mother who took in laundry and ironing, the boys on milk floats, paper rounds, finding glass bottles (to take back for money), etc.

We are working poor and living a HA flat, but it's spotless.

We don't have a garden. That would be lovely, but the security of HA renting is too welcome.

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 13/05/2010 21:18

God that estate is exactly the same as the one round the corner, might be the same HA as ours.

We're also in a 2-bed and it's hard enough sharing with DS tbh.

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 13/05/2010 21:19

at the Coutts cheque and book on Pageantry!

expatinscotland · 13/05/2010 21:20

I have a good friend who has 5 kids in a two bed.

The three girls in one, the two boys in the other, and she and her husband on a foldout couch.

The place is immaculate.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 13/05/2010 21:22

That's going to mess up her benefits, though, no?

OP posts:
poshtottie · 13/05/2010 21:23

I shared a bed with my sister. She used to wet the bed.

RunawayWife · 13/05/2010 21:23

I do think the parents need to clean the house, I know it is over crowded but for crying out loud tidy cost nothing

myermay · 13/05/2010 21:24

exactly there is no need to live in a pigsty just because you have a small house. Also there are millions for people who are poor and could do with help - why does it need to be broadcast for all to see/judge. Surely this sort of help can be given without it being on tv

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 13/05/2010 21:24

You can have up to £3000 without losing IS I think, that's what it was when I was a LP, not sure about tax credits...

poshtottie · 13/05/2010 21:26

I would have made my son tidy his room before we had visitors.

RunawayWife · 13/05/2010 21:26

I know this is going to sound really nasty, but I would not could not eat in that house it is too dirty

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 13/05/2010 21:28

Must. Not. Judge. BUT - wiping toothpaste off the bathroom walls takes seconds.

thelunar66 · 13/05/2010 21:29

It must be hard to keep a tidy house if you have, what, 6? people in that tiny space
