TBH, I've never seen this.

Is it like Wife Swap?

'It seems like the rich family are making them jump through hoops for their money. I know what you're saying about the cleanliness, but she has 5 kids to deal with! '

I don't see it that way at all.

You can't just throw money at some people. It doesn't work.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 13/05/2010 21:44

And they are not 'posh'. They are people who made a lot of money.

RunawayWife · 13/05/2010 21:44

I think the mum thinks she is going to get a nice new clean tidy home, I think it is fair that the better off family are saying we will help you but you need to help yourself, too many people want a free ride.

That poor little boy, he needs so much help, thing is he knows he has problems and he wants to change

noddyholder · 13/05/2010 21:46

I think she is bloody ungrateful

RunawayWife · 13/05/2010 21:46

I am beginning to dislike the poor mum, it is all about her...I want I want, I don't want to be here.....

Look how happy her children are with the new beds, clean the bloody house and do what is right by your children and stop with the I want want want

expatinscotland · 13/05/2010 21:47

I agree, Run.

She just admitted she doesn't want to be comfortable there.

That's a shame. it's overcrowded, but it looks an adequate house. It has a nice sized garden and teh bedrooms are both doubles.

With any situation like this, change has to come from both sides.

OP posts:
MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 13/05/2010 21:47

I'd really like to see the self-made's thrown into the deep end with proper old money and made to feel hugely uncomfortable though.

chubbasmum · 13/05/2010 21:48

i only heard abit before the break, i do agree £2000 is a fortune but you have to educate the parents for the kids to have a better future the mother especially needs to understand the rational of why they have to start making small changes its a complex situation which will need alot of work alot !!!!!!!

Rollergirl1 · 13/05/2010 21:48

Expat: I agree it could be like throwing money after bad. But I don't see what precisely making them decorate a house that they utterly despise because of the way they live and must associate with the worst memories is going to achieve for them.

They have picked the total extremes haven't they? It's so sensationilist that it almost makes it pointless to watch.

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 13/05/2010 21:48

Our Style and Beauty MNers would have a field day with that woman

BettySuarez · 13/05/2010 21:49

I wasn't expecting to like the rich family but I sort of do

Although when she mentioned about sponsoring 'Kwame' I felt compelled to haul my arse onto Mumsnet to see what you were all saying

thelunar66 · 13/05/2010 21:49

the well off ones did go looking for a 4 bedroom for them then.

expatinscotland · 13/05/2010 21:50

'But I don't see what precisely making them decorate a house that they utterly despise because of the way they live and must associate with the worst memories is going to achieve for them.'

Because Rollergirl, there is no other house available for them right now. They took her case to the council.

If you're not happy with what you have now, and feeling that you're on a road to change, then it is throwing good money after bad.

It's a hard lesson to learn, but if you don't the consequences are far worse.

He's trying to help them source new housing.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 13/05/2010 21:51

He's being very honest here, too.

I admire that.

It's sad to see people who want to automatically dislike the wealthier people without even seeing how it plays out.

OP posts:
MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 13/05/2010 21:52

Our 1-bed was a shit-hole when we moved in with DD but we did what we could with it for three years, for her, it's what you do for your children. And because we were bloody lucky not to be in a hostel.

RunawayWife · 13/05/2010 21:52

The rich may not be old money, but they worked for their money....

They are trying to help someone help them self, if they brought them a lovely home it would not help as it would become a shithole, they would still have no money, that little boy would still be struggling.

They need to better them self with the help they are being given

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 13/05/2010 21:54

You are right, just finding it a bit depressing and trying to lighten the tone I suppose.

RunawayWife · 13/05/2010 21:55

I can't watch the end, someone let me know the outcome please.

I hope for the sake of those children they get started on the right track, also I think they need to be a real family and have Dad live at home.
Hope it works out

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 13/05/2010 21:55

And because when I posted my piss-taking comments they were saying they wouldn't be helping.

expatinscotland · 13/05/2010 21:56

This place is full of damp, we cannot afford carpets so it's bare floorboards and the downstairs flat is used as temporary accommodation by the council so it's an endless procession of convicted criminals.

The last guy got murdered and the one in here now has the police after him at least once a week.

I'm on a high level of AD's and both DH and DD1 have mulitple learning disabilities.

But fuck. It's our home and it's not a hostel or a shelter.

Least you can do is keep it clean.

FFS.

OP posts:
BettySuarez · 13/05/2010 21:56

Why does the dad not normally live at home?

Rollergirl1 · 13/05/2010 21:56

I don't know if that remark was aimed at me with regards to automatically disliking the wealthier ones as I definitely don't feel that way. I just wasn't sure about the whole making them decorate the house. But I agree completely that with alot of these situations the dynamics and thought process needs to change in order for it to be bring about change for the better.

I actually haven't concentrated on the last 15mins as i've been on here. Mumsnet is such a diversion!

poshtottie · 13/05/2010 21:57

The kids are all lovely.

smallorange · 13/05/2010 21:58

Have the poor family worked hard enough gor the rich ones yet?

I have only seen the trailer- can't watch it as I might throw something through the TV.

BettySuarez · 13/05/2010 22:00

I thought that too poshtottie, they are all a credit to their parents
