What TV ads are loved / hated at the moment?

I'm planning a few lessons on advertising for my Year 8 class, and would like to show them some current examples of adverts which they are likely to love or hate - I've gone blank. Any tips?

Thank you...

I actually think those Drink Aware ads (she says as she drains a bottle of red) where they show the evening going backwards from pissed (with vomit in the hair, torn tights etc) to sober are very good.

They might actually resonate with that year group....

hormonesnomore · 10/05/2010 22:57

Ooh, yes the Drink Aware ones - when he pulled his earring out

Yes CJ, Malcolm's great - and a Qualified Idiot!! - I think that was Max (with hair) from Eastenders in the first one.

specialsmasher · 11/05/2010 06:35

Have just woken up to the plethora of love, loathing and links on here! So brilliant, thanks. .

Going to spend this evening looking at all properly.

Yes, Hormones, I thought it was Max - and the girl he was with was a dead ringer for Danielle on Over the Rainbow, if you watch that sort of thing

The best bit about Malcolm was the warning at the end, loved it

The BT Broadband one makes me laugh when the daughter tells the dad that her mum is re-marrying and the mum hears her and sprays her wine everywhere. Funny.

VengefulKitty · 12/05/2010 12:33

I just properly laughed at the IronBru snowman ad - thanks hormones no more

cupcakesandbunting · 12/05/2010 13:39

I love the Crusha one but then again I am very immature. I don't really like the John Lewis one, tbh. I fail to see what it has to do with John Lewis unless they are trying to suggest that if you buy their products then you will lead a very charmed life with lots of friends and extended family always popping in and looking attractive Also the song they use for it, I mean, the woman in the song sounds like a bit of a twat

I used to hate Go Compare but my DS (age 2) goes round the house singing "GOCOMPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARE" in an opera-voice and it's funny so now I like the advert by proxy. This probably makes me a tit.

Any Halifax advert is annoying to the point of making my bile duct twitch. They do it on purpose, They MUST do.

pagwatch · 12/05/2010 13:44

I hate hate hate that awful ad for kitchen towel with the man with the bad spanish accent "Juan Sheet" so sounds like 'one shit'.

How fucking hilarious, especially during the daytime

Stupid twats.

VengefulKitty · 12/05/2010 14:01

I like this too

CJCregg · 12/05/2010 15:36

Cupcakes, my DCs do that GO COMPARE! thing as well and it really makes me laugh now. They LOVE it. In mock operatic voices ... so I am also rather fond of those ads now, and actually used the website to get an insurance quote recently. The power of advertising, or the power of children?

lottiejenkins · 12/05/2010 16:22

I love the Postman Pat ad for Specsavers. My son roared with laughter watching that one! I also love the John Lewis one. I hate the Adios ad when she goes dancing down the road in her undies!!! I loathe the "isa isa baby" ad.

lottiejenkins · 12/05/2010 16:27

Just remembered another one.....
hovis bread

UnquietDad · 12/05/2010 16:32

I had that odd feeling about the John Lewis ad too. The girl gets older but time stands still! How does that work??

busymummy3 · 12/05/2010 22:59

We all hate the Febreze adverts especially the one where mum tells teenage son to clean room with this passes bottle of Febreze and voila 10 mins later his friends are standing at bedroom door - one particularly strange obviously dubbed voice girl saying " ah fresh "!

thisismyclone · 13/05/2010 16:41

Not paticularly old...but goodies:

Specsavers

Guinness (brilliant!)

One of, if not the best advert ever made

hormonesnomore · 13/05/2010 19:22

at Spermsavers!

Hate, hate, hate this one and wouldn't buy them

I used to to have to mute the television when the Go Compare ads came on, now strangely I quite like them.

bibbitybobbityhat · 13/05/2010 19:25

Totally at the idea anyone would love any ad, ever. Aren't they just something you have to endure to get to the second part of the programme?

Or indeed don't have to endure if you record anything you want to watch on a commercial channel. Tis what I do.

agedknees · 13/05/2010 19:27

Love the Peter Kay advert - but can I remember what it's advertising? No chance.

VicToryA · 13/05/2010 19:28

Dislikes:
John Lewis
The BT one with the stepfamily (I detest that one)

Likes:
Cillit Bang
The one from 1989 for milk with two scally boys talking about "Accrington Stanley". Does that count?

porcamiseria · 14/05/2010 09:09

Halifax ISA ISA baby

I want to fucking kill that woman (OK maybe not, but you get my gist), toe curling

tillywee · 07/06/2010 22:37

Hate the go compare ones....I'd like to strangle him with his moustash.

Like compare the market ones and juan shit

Meglet · 12/06/2010 21:49

I cannot stand this bloody smug Natwest ad.

Smug family upgrading to an old police station, perfect kids drawing nicely at desk.

Smug couple downsizing from a farm, to a presumably equally attractive house.

Smug couple with baby planning own build.

sparklingchampagne · 12/06/2010 22:17

I don't know why, but I love the Berocca ad with the running machines
Also, the Barclaycard one with the big waterchute home from work. I want to do that!

As a kid, I remember going round the house singing 'Ooooooooooh bodyform, bodyform for yoooooooooou!'
