Duck is a rotter IMO and I hope Peggy loves him and leaves him.

I think there is a lot going to come out about Betty's man too. Not sure what - but there's always something in the woodwork in Mad Men.

Nuttybear · 20/04/2010 21:39

yes, That was fab when she said 'no' without further discussion brill! I don't think Peggy is as bothered about Pete as Pete is about her. I do agree that it must be awkward and he has a nasty way of turning on her. I think your right!

Have just watched the last episode and it was great. However I am going to go against the tide of opinion here and say that I can't stand Don - he is vile.

He told Betty 'You're a whore' - when she hasn't even slept with her new bloke yet, and yet he is an absolute man-whore! I know attitudes were different back then, but even so ... In fact he has treated Betty very badly in many ways. He's a neglectful parent as well, though admittedly better than Betty, with her constant "Go upstairs" the children.

Then he's been horrible to Peggy, rude to his secretaries, unjustifiably sacked Salvatore etc etc.

In real life you wouldn't want to know this guy, OK he is reasonably good looking but he's just a pig!

Nuttybear · 22/04/2010 08:24

Yep! It's not real life. I would have still shagged him. Then I hope in this day and age dumped him pretty quickly. Then of course the delicious bit of blushing when you saw him again as to how foolish you can get. (Do you think I'm reading too much into this!)
I think the programme is a breath of fresh air at the mo.
Okay, you are right he is a pig but the programme would be boring otherwise. I don't like any eposide where he dresses casual I think its the suit that do it for me. I'm going to save money and get DH to dress for me like that. He is not a pig so RL is better.

dalek · 22/04/2010 12:00

Nuttybear - I just laughed out loud when you said you were going to save up and get your DH to dress up like Don - it made me giggle. Think Don is often less sexy when naked as well - definitely the suit that does it.

Think DH would like me to have Joan's body (probably could if I lost about 3 stone) and Betty's stay at home - nnes. I am a SAHM but dinner not often ready, house often a tip and I often forget to wear make up and often leave the house with mad hair as I haven't had time to do it before the school run!

dalek · 22/04/2010 12:00

But he loves me anyway

Nuttybear · 22/04/2010 12:15

dalek I'm sure you would be happy to comply, if you had the lovely Carla to look after the kids & clean house, appointment very week at the hairdressers, ignored the kids. To tell the truth I won't want to be Betty I prefer my mad hair and no angst and freedom. She should have gonorrhea with all of Don's shagging Remember that's how Mrs Beatton died.

Sorry - a bit late here, watched the repeat on Tues (was it?)
Now, the reason Don called Betty vile names WAS because all this time he seen her as the exact opposite of his mother (who was a prostitute) so in a way a tension between them has been broken. Which is GOOD. so they might get back together again, now that he realises she is a real person not a carbon cutout perfect wife.

I thought it all inutterably tragic, particularily bit with Sally hurling abuse at her mother, who couldn't say the real reason why she was leaving. And they both behaved so well in front of the children it was heartbreaking to feel Don had lost everything, and that he had worked out his feelings for Betty just TOO late. And one thing coming to an end, yet all the excitement of the new setup.
And Peggy and Don being flipsides of same identity - her completely dedicated loner and he serial adulterer.
