Watching this and I'm so impressed by his achievement. Really moving when he explained his motivation for everything - death of his mother when he was 6. Uplifting and sad at the same time.

never really liked him but thought he was amazing on this and what an achievement! Feel gutted about the poor publicity especially seeing other celebs got more coverage for smaller challenges. He's definitely won my respect and donation! Really feel like complaining to the bbc though it should of been prime time tv!!

wintera · 22/03/2010 10:54

Am glad they put it on bbc 1 but it's still too late for my liking. Would have liked to have seen this on prime time myself. He deserved it. I have texted EDDIE twice now, so that should be a donation of £10. And I liked the fact it said the whole £5 goes to the charity and not just a percentage. I have always loved him but now he is my hero!

Nointhemood · 22/03/2010 11:09

I don't normally donate to things like this as i always feel celebs are plugging themselves for their own charity/profile but ive also texted a few times whcih im quite shocked to say. And im completely in awe of him and the way he just got on and did it without hardly any support. This should of been made alot bigger and publicised last year at the time. The BBC really have no idea about the public do they? That other lady that water skied across the channel had lots more support and publicity!! Has Eddie even done any interviews after this to promote it surpreised he wasn't on This morning or something.

WhyMeWhyNot · 22/03/2010 11:11

He'd definately have my vote for Sports Personality of the Year.
He deserves some sort of recognition for what he's achieved.
Does anyone know how much he raised or was it all added into the overall total?
He's a lovely man. Well done Eddie xxxxxxxxxxx

wintera · 22/03/2010 11:30

Is Points of View still on? Might be worth an email to POV to let my feelings known I think! I also think it's strange that so much publicity was given to Christine Bleakley and David Walliams and his bike gang too. I mean what they did was great but it just seems so strange that Eddie has been put aside in the scheme of things. Most of the people who cheered him on in the prog seemed to know about it from Twitter. But I don't go on Twitter so that's why I had no idea about it. Or maybe it was planned that way? So people wouldn't get in his way maybe?Maybe he didn't want any fuss at the time. Still no reason why he shouldn't get the attention now though.

MeltedFlumps · 22/03/2010 12:49

I love the idea of voting for him as sports personality of the year! Can we do that? This guy is an absolute hero and deserves some sort of medal, doesn't he?

Coffeebeanz · 22/03/2010 12:58

I watched this last night and was absolutely bowled over by what a remarkable achievement this was.

I would have loved to have come out to support him, and maybe even run a little with him (as long as it wasnt torrential rain at the time !)

Why oh why was this not advertised better ?

This is what people want to watch BBC... truly inspirational stuff - not crap !

LittlePushka · 22/03/2010 20:05

wintera · 24/03/2010 12:32

What was the link supposed to be to? Could you attach it again please?

Ledodgy · 24/03/2010 12:34

here

wintera · 24/03/2010 12:37

So he has already been given a special award then it seems. Thanks for the link!

Ripeberry · 24/03/2010 12:41

He now has massive legs.....pwoarh!

darcymum · 24/03/2010 12:44

Amazing, amazing, amazing. How anyone could do that, let alone a chubby 40 something, I will never know.

I know he has won some sports award but I think he deserves a knighthood for what he has done. Can we all get together and recommend him for that? Can the public recommend people for awards like that?

Totally agree that his run needed to be more high profile.

wintera · 24/03/2010 12:52

The good thing about this is that people who normally wouldn't have bothered with his stand-up stuff are now interested in him. My friend loved the Marathon prog so much, she then rang me to ask if she could lend all my Eddie stand-up dvds and cds. Now she wants to see him live and everything!

malovitt · 24/03/2010 12:55

According to his twitter page, the official total raised by his marathon running for Sports Relief is now £1.6 million.

MeltedFlumps · 24/03/2010 19:52

Bloody hell - £1.6 million raised by one person. How fabulous. I followed the link - I am so pleased that he got a special award. Can't believe that I didn't know about that either. WHat a hero.

spiderbabymum · 24/03/2010 21:45

Eddie Izzard ...he has just done something truely unbelievable .

I watched the programs with awe .

I,m surprised some other s on here had the same reaction as me ......

Which was this ....Eddie ....Will you marry me ?

( Whats that about .......? )

PS I do wonder why he bothered with the flags ....surely that would make running even trickier .

I didnt even like him and now i love him. I think the whole strong determind mind thing-amazing. I wonder if he has a autobiography out sounds like he had a tough childhood.

lottiejenkins · 25/03/2010 10:31

Ive just looked on Amazon.......couldnt see an autobiography but did see that you can pre order the Marathon Man book which is being released in September. I'm a little lot in love with him as well!!!

wintera · 25/03/2010 11:40

I have been an Eddie fan for years but it's amazing how many women have mentioned him to me over the last few days and said that they now fancy him! I have always been into his stand-up but have never fancied him though. Bet he is made up! Probably getting loads of female attention!
